  1. No, but seriously, on occasion my 5th gen's motor will stop running for a very short interval. With one exception, there's no one factor that is consistent. It'll stutter in any gear, at any speed or RPM level. It doesn't matter whether or not the engine is up to temp. It *has* happened as I've been slowing down and coming to a stop, but it has never happened when I start the bike and it's idling or if I'm at a stop and idling. It doesn't matter if the road is smooth or rough, although it's a lot more taxing on rough roads. Sometimes it'll only hiccup once. Other times it'll feel like the bike is shuddering. It gets exciting when it happens as I'm going around a corner or turning at low speed. The reason I believe it to be an electronics problem, as opposed to fuel is that all 4 cylinders drop out simultaneously. If it was an injector or dirty gas, I would expect it to run rough instead of dropping out completely It's also been occurring long enough that it's happened with many different tanks of gas. I use ethanol-free 87, which I get from 2 different stations that are near to me. There are other stations on the island that carry ethanol-free gas, but like I said, I don't think the issue is fuel. There's no other electrical issue that occurs, like dimming lights or the clock resetting, so it's not a major grounding issue. The injectors share a ground, though, along with the intake duct control solenoid valve, which I'm pretty sure I've disconnected. I've even swapped out the ECM. Any cogent thoughts are welcome.
  2. Hello All, Looking to pick the brains of those who know more than me about 5th gen VFR800 injectors - what can I upgrade my single-hole OEMs with? Got the whole bike torn down for a massive project and thought I’d upgrade injectors while there. Just because. Nothing wrong with the stock 5th gen units but injector technology has improved since the early pioneering days of fuel injection. Here’s what I know and read about: 1. 5th gen injectors are same as early Honda CRV cars and have a single hole 2. 6th gen have 12 holes and same as early CBR1k (I think?) 3. Mohawk is running early Fireblade injectors (4 hole?) on his 5th gen (would love to know more about this, mate!) 4. Someone in this forum is running CBR1k injectors on their 5th gen 5. Rangerscott fitted 6th gen throttle bodies to his 5th gen and reports better MPG 7. MPG has improved quite a lot from 5-6-8th gen 8. Some early Honda CRV guys are running Blackbird injectors in their built cars but having to boost pressure (read about this a long time ago...) I’d love to be told there’s “X” injector with 12 holes that slots right into the 5th gen throttle bodies but doubt it’s that simple. What would you do in my shoes if you had the bike apart and the time to mess about with this? Would love to be able to use 8th gen (or 6th gen) units but don’t know what needs modifying to fit. Don’t mind hackzing at things to make them work. Open to all options and opinions. I could just leave it alone but kind of set on upgrading. Best, Stray
  3. Hello all, I’ve recently purchased a 2002 VFR 800 (50k km) for dirt cheap off someone who had cracked the crankcase and couldn’t be bothered to have it repaired. This resulted in him leaving it sitting in his yard for just over a year and allowing rust to form in his tank. I managed to replace the crankcase cover and clear 99% of the rust out of the tank as well as replacing the fuel pump assembly, however, I had left the rest of the fuel system as is, After that it was running and riding fine, until I decided to dump some injector cleaner in it of which I used a little too much which caused the bike to stop running. I drained the tank and chucked in a fresh tank of petrol but when I started it it was sputtering and stalling with any blip of throttle and was shooting TONS of fuel out the exhaust so much so that it drained half a tank in about couple mins and made my garage a gas filled bomb waiting to blow. You can see in the photo the mist and even drops of fuel coming out After letting the bike use the rest of the fuel I thought it may be leaky injectors due to something being dislodged when I used the cleaner. I pulled out the whole fuel system but I’m not sure if 1. it’s worth somehow testing them and cleaning somehow or 2. if I should replace them. Or if it’s even the injectors at all and maybe the fuel pressure regulator. I’m no mechanic so any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I also noticed they are green injectors which when I researched online are very expensive to replace. So is there any chance the brown ones off the newer models are compatible as they are widely available for me. Thanks heaps Tom
  4. Hi guys: I've had my 2000 VFR 800 for awhile, and have put almost 100k on it, thanks in part to my amigos here :-) Recently I noticed the Error light coming on. I read the codes, and came up with Code 15(Injector 4). I did experience the engine cutting out on me a couple times during riding, but the bike always restarted quickly. So, I am happy to replace injector 4 IF that is my problem, but I don't want to take off the carbs etc AGAIN for no reason. Its a real PITA. Has anyone had a faulty injector? 1.Whats the best way to verify a bad one? When I used my my multimeter, All the injectors read the same resistance. (About 20k, Ohms, Out of spec according to the manual) 2. If I need to get a test pin box for troubleshooting, any idea who has them? (07WGZ-0010100) Thanks Guys! Jerry W. Socal.
