To my knowledge it's illegal in all 50 states to operate a motorcycle on the streets without your lights on. The only people I have known who have a kill switch have it for running from the cops. :warranty:
  2. The link to HS's writeup no longer works, so it might be helpful (esp if forwarding the file to others) if you would describe how and where to measure. "Rider on baord, push down let up" really doesnt tell me what to do if I've never done this before.. Measuring to the ground, travel on the forks, etc. I would say feel free to rename Sheet 2 and get as wordy as you like. thanks for all your work on this and bumping it up again, i missed it the 1st time.

After getting fed up with near constant thermostat problems Chris traded in for a Bandit 12 and ended up moving to Washington state this spring, if I recall.
  4. I don't see it on their site anymore, but Ram Mount used to offer a steering stem mount that used an expandable rubber plug, Avoid it, the diameter isn't quite large enough to work on the 6th gen. It holds well enough to not fall out on its own but a light twist or pull will remove it.
  5. I've got the same bag set and they did just fine for me on a 3500mi trip last fall, but I do wish I would have had something like this bracket. Another member here did something similar with metal tubing and a pipe-bender attaching to one of the exhaust bolts rather than the plate. I can easily see your wife getting irritated by the straps on an extended ride, fortunately with some creative folding of the excess straps you can run at least the forward pair under the seat and then lock them down. It also adds a minor bit of anti theft since there's no way to get the bags off the bike without cutting.
  6. When I was at my local shop setting up my harness recall work this spring this guy walks in, I swear he looks just like Homer's neighbor Ned Flanders wearing leather chaps over his jeans and the little leather cruiser vest, fingerless leather gloves. "What can we do for you" "I need to do my first service, I'm a little late tho, 900 miles." "Great, did you buy it new from us? "Yeeup" "What model? Year?" "Shadow, '99" After he finished getting all the info the guy hurries out the door and hops in the baby blue Prius his wife has waiting for him out the shop door. Shop guy sees my look of shock and says "Takes all kinds, this really isn't that uncommon." Edit - Almost forgot: me = 02, 30k+

  9. Welp, James and I have arrived... and not another Honda in sight. HELLO hello ... Hopefully everyone's just out to eat.
  10. It wouldn't hurt to check. I called this morning to check and they only show that TWO of the rooms I blocked off have been reserved. It's gonna be a small gathering this year, huh? Just confirmed my room, they've got me listed with your group, so I guess I'm the other one.
  11. S&T file sent. Feel free to modify, ignore, corrupt or whatever as you see fit. Hope you get the "ol' girl" running, we need good ride leaders cuz nobody wants to follow my slow ass! :pissed: Oh, and I wasn't really sure, is the Flaf coming down for this ride? I see you're marked as the Flaf Holder but I didn't see any official mention of it. I'm headed out to explore NM/AZ (maybe a bit of south Utah) after leaving Kerrville so if it is headed out that way, I might be able to arrange a meet with someone.
  12. 1.) Yes, i think it's worth the money. 2.) I got mine off PC Nation - 611.80 and free shipping, no antennas. 3.) no idea, i don't care to take calls while driving and don't know if wireless will last for 500mi. with constant music. 4.) The retail box comes with a suction cup car mount with cig adapter and a bike mount with a fused line to wire to your battery. If you want to hook the bike mount into the Aux outlet you'll have to put a plug on it (easy enough tho). I wired in a relay and fusebox, works great.
  13. Look like a great route Dutch, I think you've done an awesome job organizing this years ride (as well as last years). If you'd be interested in covering not quite as many of the same roads both days, I'd suggest 1888 and 473, both east of Kerrville. You can make a nice loop of it heading out of Fredricksberg to 1888 into Blanco, then 165/2325 into Wimberly, cut down 12 Till it hits 32, Take 32 west across the Devil's Backbone till you can split off on 473 heading back towards Kerrville (crossing 281). From there you can tap into 16 and, if you want, add in as much of 337 etc. to finish up (or start if going backwards) the ride. (Loop thru Vanderpool/187/39 and you're clocking in at 260mi. for the route). Anything east of 281 is a fair bit more relaxed so it may not be as appealing to a number of the attendees and I haven't been out there in a year so I cant make any claims to road conditions. Just tossing it out there. For what it's worth I hear 55 (just about my Favorite road out there) is really dull once you hit the top so you're Saturday ride looks best!
  14. Speaking of... you got any thoughts about what route on what days yet?
  15. Less than two foot diameter and slightly flexible wouldn't really give me much trouble on the bike (it's all soft luggage) and even if it did it would easily slip under the tail bag and strap down. I'd considered a Bivy, but I dont really know how quickly they setup/teardown, takes me a good 20-30 min to setup a regular fiberglass/shock-cord tent in daylight when solo, so after a long day of riding or searching for a camp spot (potentially till after dark) the pop-up tent seems really appealing. I haven't done a whole lot of camping so maybe my desire for ease of use is a bit over blown. I'll take a look at some more of the Bivys. Pizza shape aside, whats your neighbor think of the tent? (and does he wanna sell it? :salesman: ) Rattlesnakes don't concern me as much as coaral snakes, Brown Recluse spiders, black widows (killed one in my yard), various species of scorpions, etc. At least the rattlers give you some warning to get the f' outta there.
