Porrada thank you, I know all of us NorCal guys have had Ed in our collective thoughts.
Great news, for sure. Sounds like it will be a helluva recovery, but all things considered it sounds like progress.

It will be, and has been, heavy on my mind since we were going to ride down together.
This, for real.
On a happier note, RC don't peel off on Sunday until CA132 to Modesto. One of the greatest sections of road in the world is between Bear Valley and Coulterville. Just trust me and thank me later.
Haven't heard from Stucky - I'll hit em with a PM. Oh and +1 on Caliente. I rode it once and it's good - though not as good as a cold brew that you'll be craving by that time.

I talk to myself in my helmet, then gesture incoherently to other riders.
I'm old school. -

As of right now I wont be able to make the full ride. If I can get away for a day and meet you like last year I will let you know.
Sounds good. Just keep us posted.

I'll be arriving in Kernville Saturday AM (9/10). About what time will you motelers be headed out after breakfast?
Usually the plan is to KSU full of fuel at 9am. Will that work?

Bummed, the project I have did indeed move to the first two weeks of September! I'll have to live vicariously through any pics and post you guys put up.
I did tell SFdownhill to join you guys, he'd be coming from Vista, Ca. so even further than me. Maybe Stucky and he can caravan together.
Lame! Too bad, in order to go fast I need a black sixth gen filling my mirrors at all times. I'll PM SFdownhill - thanks.
Also updated the first post with a couple notes.

Booked Kernivlle Inn. FYI that was their last two-double room.

Tristen, can I share a room with you..?
Only if you're willing to sleep on the floor!

I'm doing Motels both nights... Who wants to share a room? Where are we going to stay in Lake Isabella and How about Shaver Lake?
Yeah no camping on this one. Kernville Inn in Kernville.
Shaver Lake Village Hotel is where we stayed last year. It's pretty small though.

Should we be booking rooms in Shaver lake like last year?
Yeah probably. You remember what that hotel was called? It was cool - we had such a romantic room LOL

I've owned VFRs since '06 - at the ripe old age of 23. 32 these days, so definitely on the young end.
If you like going far and going fast there's no better alternative. Jury's out on whether I'll make it to the next age bracket haha

Yeah we're all here. We do a few Bay Area & NorCal rides per year. Always down to have fresh blood in the group.

Don't they float?
For a couple seconds until they get soaked I guess. But not through the cycle - it's not like they're made out of cork or something.

Been watching this for years. Even thought about putting down a deposit. Delay after delay after delay is its story.
Even if it does get built, all above are correct - it will never be $6800. I'd still pay $12k or so for it, so why set people's expectations so high (low)?

" An hour earlier, another crash happened east of Sprig Lake, where a 2014 Honda Pilot heading west in an eastbound lane collided head-on with a 1998 Honda motorcycle, CHP officials said. The motorcyclist, a 60-year-old San Jose man, suffered major injuries and was transported to Regional Medical Center of San Jose. The SUV driver, a 32-year-old Van Nuys woman, was not hurt in the collision. "
Be safe out there everybody. That could've been any of us. Wishing Ed (and his wife) the very best.

Son of a... This is terrible news. Not sure how I missed this thread.
Ridden with Ed on at least 10 rides. Nicest guy in the world.
Hate to hear this. -

What is the date and approx. departure time from Kernville?
Slightly confused:
9/10 map link shows your route to Kernville.
9/11 map link starts at Shaver Lake.
Sorry, made that kind of confusing.
9/9: everyone meets in Kernville
9/10: ride Kernville to Shaver Lake
9/11: ride Shaver Lake to Georgetown
In the past, SoCal people have peeled off sometime after Saturday, or ridden through and then made the trek home on Monday. Typically, numbers-wise, NorCal wins out big time so I don't really consider doing a "basecamp" type of ride i.e. T-Mac.
16 hours ago, crazybrother said:Who and what are the travel plans for Friday down from Nor-Cal?
I'm going to leave work around noon or so, like last year. Then just grind it out down 99 and take 178 up through Kern Canyon. Unless you want to try to hit CA155 and find some sand!

Nice! Love it up there.
Great place to take photos at night.

I'm personally not a fan of Nacimiento rd.
I think the west side up to the crest is where the money is, done out-and-back from Kirk Creek. Using it as a through-road is questionable if not masochistic.

Any thoughts on hitting Trimmer Road?
We did Trimmer the first year I think...and maybe last year? It's an awesome road, I just remember the connector from there to Shaver was a bit goaty. I'm always down for that weird shit though.

Damn man, sorry to hear that. Bummers all around these days - just found out yesterday that my aunt has breast cancer. Maybe we can all have a good cry together lol
Just PM'd you my cell number - just shoot me a text next week whenever you know for sure.
Barring a miracle, I don't think I'll be able to leave before 3pm. Tristan was talking about leaving super early and going down the coast if I couldn't leave early.
