  1. I'm thinking about put together a summer ride over to Mt. Washington New Hampshire... Here is the routes I'm looking at each day, would be great for other VFRD riders to join in along the way. Those in Ontario, the plan is to leave around 10ish from my place near the start of the route. I do have room for a few small trailers and an SUV or 2.

  2. I completely agree that more weekend time is better for those farther away. For the record, I am merely advocating for $60 from forum members who barely scrape up enough money to attend, but are unlikely to mention anything for personal reasons. A number of those less financially fortunate forum members are the ones who make the event worth attending.

Paying a little more and being within walking distance of everything is a big plus.. No worry about how anyone is getting home after the after ride dinner and festivities..

What's really going to hurt this year, is the fact the Canadian dollar is worth about 65 cents US right now at the bank when it comes to exchange it.. But I'll pay the extra to be close to everything..

  3. Wife was think of making an east coast trip this summer. Her brother and parents are looking at making the trip. Wonder what she would think if I loaded the bike on the trailer behind us...

Made my first trip in 07 few months after buying my VFR. I'd suggest a July or August trip weather would be better. And aways ride the by going up the east side and coming down the west. The signs point you up the west side first,so thier is less traffic going the other way.

  4. I saw one of these back in the spring but didn't know what it was until today.

    spherical.jpg

It's got 6 GoPro cameras in a qube that all sync together to record all at once to the same storage unit.

Now sure who's video editing software is used to tie it all together. But it can make a video that as it plays you can move your mouse around and see 360° around the cameras as the video plays.

Sounds cool yes.. But now watch this video on a smartphone or tablet, and move your phone around and the video tracks the phones movements and adjusts the view to where you look..

    https://youtu.be/NdZ02-Qenso

About a $3000 setup, but would make some cool snowmobile or bike videos.

  5. Had to work today, but did 350km yesterday... was a nice way to close out the season..

Made myself mad, at my lack of attention. Set the Garmin camera all up, with external power, picked up a remote microphone which I tucked up under the seat so it didn't get washed out by the wind noise.

Then we'll setting the view angle with the smartphone app I switched to photo mode and ended up with nothing but a picture of myself, setting up the camera :(

  6. I ended up using Black metallic VHT high heat engine paint. I would say it is a 99% match to the stocker. Needed some for the same reason as you. I really can't tell the difference.

Thanks I'll take a look and see what I find... a little off shade is ok. Will look better then the bare scraped aluminum look I'm rocking now ;)

  7. Anyone know the paint code for the 6th gen engine? More so the clutch cover. Mine is a little rashed up and I planning on sending it to Seb at some point for window install. But would like to try and clean it up a little until then.

  8. Here is the latest sled video from my production studio. Still learning some of the tricks with my Garmin Virb camera.

Like you have to zero the angle sensor each time you position it. I make a bunch of videos with angle sensor zeroed when the camera was mounted upsidedown. So it shows me going doen when im going up hill.

The editing software is good for basic stuff. But I've figured out from here on out I will use the Garmin software to edit the clips I want with the gauges and other info overlaid. Then take those clips in to something like AVS4YOU which is a true video editor with lots of options and effects to play with.

No speed display on the sled video as I didn't want to incriminate myself, since some of it was filmed on OFSC trails ;)

  9. What's the speed limit over there?

Looks good. If I didn't already have a Drift HD Ghost I would be tempted to buy the VIRB, given that I also have a Zumo 590, which can apparently control the VIRB...

    Ciao,

Saidly the limit is 100km/h. One of the slowest in North America anymore.

And ya the Virb interfaces with the new Zumos. Give you live camera video feed and playback control.

  10. There is a derating you have to use for parallel feeders. Been a while since I've done it but I believe you have to derate the current capacity of your wires by 20%

This is in the AC world, where your using parallel feeders for thousands of amps at 440vac and higher.

But there is a heating issue in the DC world as well. 5a@12v doesn't make a lot of heat, but 40a@12v across 5 wires all bunched together inside that connector just might.

We use those connectors at work all the time on 90vdc actuators and they hold up well to every day usage. But we are only pushing 1 or 2 amps on a single line.

  11. So my GoPro went MIA at TMAC last year and I've been hunting around for something new since. Problem is GoPro has gone way up in price since its early years and I don't see the need for 4k video when very few people have something to view it one.

Enter the Gaemin Virb Elite, a full GPS action camera that shoots at 1080@30fps and syncs GPS position information along with a 2 axis accelerometer to give you G force data, a gyroscope for pitch and roll or lean angle, plus a barometer for pinpoint altitude and vertical speed readings. As well it's equipted with Ant+ that will sync to all kinds of sport meters.

It's also IPX7 rated, so no need for a waterproof case on those rainy days, which means sharper sound on your recordings.

Best part is, it's $150 less then the current GoPro Hero 4 that came out this summer.

Made this video today, by mounting it from my rear view mirror, using a GoPro mount. Because Garmin gives you an adapter to fit GoPro mounts. Their free video editing software works well, from what I have used so far, and looks to give you basically everything you need.

  12. Looks just like the 09 Canadian colors..

I think if the 1200 had a bigger fuel tank, something that pushed it a little closer to the same range as the 800 or even a little more, they would sell a bunch of these. I think you would see a lot of the the on the fence type riders, who are not ready for an ST1500, but need something beyond the 800 and I4s looking at the 1200.

As the kids slowly exit the house (1 left) the wife and I would like to tour more on the bike. It can be done, but the 800 is overly 2 up long distance friendly. We have done 400-500km 2 and 3 day trips, but to load up for a week or 10 days for a several thousand mile trip, could lead me to a second divorce. I'm not ready for a ST1500, but a VFR1200 with a custom seat and maybe a set of riser bars I could do..

  13. None VFRD event hotel guest to the girl at the front desk... "Excuse me, I have a complaint"

Front desk girl "Yes what is it?"

Non-VFRD "There seems to be a beer keg on the luggage cart"

Remind me next year - I have a dolly which would be perfect. If Ken has room.

    Glenn

Does Ken like blow up dolls???

    Doesn't everyone? LOL
