  1. A coworker did the same conversion to an RZ350. Until he retired recently, he frequently rode it the 12 miles to work and plugged it in when he got here. (The company is required by law to provide him with an accessible outlet to plug his bike into.) He had the range up to 60 miles on one charge the last time I spoke with him.

He frequently scares the crap out of joggers as he passes by them (not intentionally, of course).

Best of luck with your project!

I'm glad that people are doing this with all my favorite bikes! (VFR RZ350)

Although with those skinny tires the RZ must get mistaken for a moped when it goes by without the 2 stroke buzz.

  2. To the people who don't like the idea. Wouldn't the idea of a nearly silent, smooth, rocket of a bike scare the crap out of the busa types? :salesman:

I thought that I was the only guy around who wanted a quiet bike. I thought that I was the last guy around who has the stock pipe by choice. While I love the growl of our V-4s (and for some of us the whirr of our gear driven cams) the idea of a near silent bike is damn cool. It must be because I've been a bicycle racer for a long time.

  3. The original engine wasn't in good shape, it had been sitting with fuel, the gas tank was rusted, carbs were dry and cracked, and the oil gummed up. it hadn't been run in 10 years. It wasn't a perfectly good bike, plus, no title. there was no way this thing was going to run legally ever again until I bought it.

I'm so glad you explained this. I'm all about experimentation and electric power but that looked too much like a great copy of my old bike.

Other than that I think an '86 VFR is a great choice for your project. It was ahead of its time when it came out and if you are successful you'll do the VFR proud.

  4. I personally think Bar End mirrors are about the ugliest thing there is...and convex mirrors mean depth perception is off.

I think it depends on the bike. On my Ducati Monster they looked a million times better than the stock mirrors.

    Wow, check out that color!

Back in '92 I had a S-Works M2 (Specialized) mountain bike. It came in that color purple. When I had to have the bike repainted due to a defect that caused the stock paint to flake I had the bike repainted in that metal-flake gold. Nice to see that you are rockin' them both.

  6. Sounds to me you have a bike that you want to show of. Go for it. Just build it and they will come. LOL.

Actually no, quite the opposite. My bike is bone stock. Wait, my chain has been replaced! Wanna see a pic?!

What got me thinking was that I had to replace the nose fairing (the shop cracked it) and I thought to myself: Hmmm, if I had to repaint...

Toro already took my first choice color (I painted a Serotta road bike that color back in '97 before everyone and their brother decided orange was cool again).

I would think that there are lots of VFRD riders who would like to show of their paint jobs and there are even more of us who want to see them.

Come on people, fly those colors!

  7. Does anyone else think that it would be cool to have a "pinned" topic with pictures of all the VFRs that are painted other than the "Original" stock color? (For example if you have a 6th gen painted in 2000 yellow that would be fine). It would work best (hell, it will only work) if it is limited to one or two shots of each repainted bike and no one posts comments about their personal opinion of the color choice or the quality of the paint.

Maybe a mod could post submitted shots to a locked topic that is pinned.

I just think that it would be cool to be able to see them all in one place. It would also be useful if anyone is thinking about, or needs, a repaint. It would work like a color catalog or full size paint swatch book.

    Thoughts? Interest?
