  1. Hey Curry, Nice work on all the info. Going back to review.

I was waiting to hear from you regarding this and especially looking for dates - so as to draw perspective with the KH in Nelson.

I've been to both (BC & Troudale) and there are fantastic roads in either location.

If I had to lean, I might lean towards Baker City as there are a ton of small, back roads with little to no slab to get to them.

There is a SIMPLY AWESOME place at Service Creek, OR that would be a fantastic lunch stop. Been there 3x and the owners always remember us.

Again, need to know your thoughts on dates as I'll be pre-tripping to Newport for a few days as well.

Even if you wanted to run a smaller meet up, I'll be going to that area at some point in Summer '16 for sure.

Will tag the tread and watch carefully.

    Sorry I missed the poll.

  2. Montrose, CO is too far. It would take me 3 days to get there and 3 days back. That would add 6 days to the 4 day event. I can't do 10 days. Sure wish there was something happening closer like the PNW Oregon Trail Ride.

Make your wish happen. Take the bull by the _ _ _ _ _ and plan it! A few of us will be looking heavily into a 10 year reunion going back to Newport Oregon for 2016,

so that will be convenient for you.

Yes Sum Sum is a bit of a travel to get there & back, but well worth the riding for the peeps you meet and the event is EPIC!

  3. I've been a big fan of TYRE for years, and while Sally (the GPS) was still alive, building and loading routes was a snap.

Now that Sally has left this world I'll be reviewing and searching for a new unit.

That said, and with the riding season drawing to a close here, I'll invest a little time to run your program through it's paces.

I quite enjoy route planning, finding all the little bonus roads and avoiding the "can't tell if it's paved or not' roads.

Review to follow - good on ya for taking on the project.

Now, about that bike of yours . . . .

  4. I'm also looking at the McMenamin's St Francis Hotel in Downtown Bend. These rooms are full service, bathrooms, WIFI, etc. Price is comparable if not a bit cheaper than the Phoenix. These Hotels are a block from each other.

Hope you can make it Cogs and Tony. Now to get Jeff a new/old VFR

Just a little reminder of our Corp association with Best Western. I'll be looking for rooms in which ever town we land.

Collecting points for free nights and can get swag for your event based on demonstrating night stays and such.

Keep me posted and if you want, I can put in a request for sponsorship. She told me Fall is the best time to request, as that's when they plan for the coming year.

  5. Yeah, I'm in.

And I'm up for a ride sometime. Going to the Kootenays for this weekend, but I'm usually around.

    Kootenays? Dude, I'm from there!

Anywhoo, trying to keep up with work at the present time - will PM you to try and arrange something.

  6. Ya, now that's what I'm looking for.

Wonder if we could get a more than a few of us Northerners to go in for a group buy - and whether the company would oblige?

At the very least I'm in for one if you are.

BTW, you're in Kelowna? Perhaps we should meet for a coffee ride?

  7. hotshoerob, that unit looks like the best Canadian source yet. A little bigger than I was hoping for.

I'd be in for any kind of group buy / shipping saver we can get.

Need to save up pennies as I've also started looking into a Shoei GT Air. From all the reviews it does an incredible job at noise handling.

Plus, there are built in helmet speaker pads, plus the drop down shade. All for $670 plus tx.

  8. Yes, the MRA one is the one I had found. Have to check out Twisted Throttle.

I've got a DB dark smoke on now and it helps very little due to my ride height - turbulence hits me smack dab in the helmet.

Have to consider if I want it mounted to the DB or to the stock screen I still have.

Monk, that one looks good and a little familiar - like I've seen it before. Is that a North America supplier?

  9. In my pursuit to lessen the wind buffeting noise and continued quality of ride on longer treks, I am looking for a wind screen extension.

Ever since riding to the first SumSum with CVVFR whilst he rode the ST, his comments about 'raising the windscreen and the rain/wind just disappeared' its been on my mind.

Now, I'm not looking for a full replacement (nor an ST for any SA's) but I've seen a few members (Baileyrock) that have one.

In doing an internet search, I found a couple quality units out of the UK for around 80# (Guessing around $140 Cdn).

If anyone who has one installed could provide some comments on how it works for wind reduction, installation ease and general comments (plus pics) would be great.

I'm tall in the saddle at 6'2, not looking for a snow plow blade on the front, but anything that helps.

  10. I had something similar years back. Really liked having the GPS up high on the wind screen.

Then, got a smoked screen and just didn't want to drill it so I picked up a Ram Mount, installed the base ball in the gas tank bolts.

Use a 5" Ram extender and Ram GPS mount which holds it at a decent height not blocking the dash and over my tank bag (when used).

If you visit Ram Mounts website and go to the motorcycle page, there are a variety of image samples of what others have done, to inspire your ideas.

  11. Power / Fuse Box

Direct wiring for the radar detector

    Radar Detector

    Re-wire GPS

Install audio splitter for radar / GPS / MP3

Find and fix the ??? leak

    Oil change

    Wash it

    Ride it

    New Tires just before SumSumx2

I'd like to look into routing the brake lines inside the swing arm, but doubt that will happen this year.

Oh ya, one more spring mod

    Sell my house

  12. Didn't do the flywheel, but I have fond memories of my RR and Stator-ectomy taking place in the parking lot of the BW in Eureka, CA.

Thanks to HS & radar (and a few on lookers holding the beer), she came out of post op just fine. Sucked having it happen on the road, but

so rewarding to be riding with peeps who know what the heck they were doing. I'd offer this tid bit. . . .

If you are experiencing even slight electrical blips, before you go much further than your local shop, order the parts & do it in the comfort of your own garage.

Another big shout out to tightwad for the site member source of where to get the parts www.wiremybike.com.

  13. I looked into these 2 years ago. Expensive and custom work due to rear drive yes, but not available for 6th Gen models with ABS. That ended that.

From other comments during my research, they did reduce the overall weight up front, but the rear came out almost the same with the weight of the custom SSS assembly.

Handling did improve due to reduction in spinning mass, but in the end he didn't think it worth the $2500 USD cost for results other than, MAN THEY LOOK GOOO!

  14. Radar designed his to mount with a structural engine bolt giving it the most strength and best positioning for protection and durability.

The installation was quite easy and the build quality is second to none - the man is a stickler for quality.

    Highly recommended. :warranty:
