The 2018 Summer Summit 4
July 10th - 13th (Tue - Fri)
Custer, SD
Host Hotel/ Location: The Rocket Motel - Reserved under VFRD SumSum 4
Gathering & Meal(s) will be hosted at their Gazebo out back
Tuesday, July 10th: Arrivals
Wednesday, July 11th: Area Rides
Thursday, July 12th: Area Rides/ Dinner/ Wrap up
Friday, July 13th: Departures
UPDATE:
June 23 - My attempt at uploading the day route gps files. They were created in TYRE and are .gpx files. (right click and download.) Good for TomTom & Garmin
I'm not responsible for errors in how it uploads to your system, missing waypoints or unknown gravel roads (except for jfviffer). If a MOD wishes to edit, should I have done this wrong, I believe I uploaded the files to the 'Routes and Custom POI's' in the downloads section.
June 14th - Itineraries mailed with name tags. If you have your pouch from SS3, please use that - otherwise, please remember to bring your name badge and a neck pouch.
I'll see if I have any left over from previous, but just in case (boy scouts) come prepared.
- Confirmed Thurs. dinner, being catered by Don at the Rocket. I can smell it already!
June 10 - Shirt order confirmed. Event added to VFRD Calendar - add your RSVP if you like.
June 1 - Registration closed and time to finalize the orders.
- Rice Honda Suzuki in Rapid City has come on as the Bike Shop Sponsor!! Pre-order your tires 2 weeks (or earlier) before the meet and get 35% off!!!
800-841-3706 and ask for Jon (parts mgr). More to come on this. RiceHondaSuzuki
- Logo finalized and ready for shirts & stuff orders.
May 21 - just getting the shirt order organized (style, quantity, etc). Will be removing the registration link on June 1st to process.
- logo for signature icon will be forthcoming.
- once I have it completed, I will email an event itinerary to everyone who registered, including maps. Happy to post GPS route files if interested.
NOTES:
- If you are trailering your bike(s) please inform Brenda or Don when booking so they can arrange/ reserve space.

Well, that was a close one. Looks like we're going to Custer, SD.
Sturgis 2018 is from Aug 3rd, so the dates are as follows.
The 2018 SumSum 4 will be hosted July 10th to 13th.
Arrivals on Tues 10th, day rides Wed & Thurs 11-12, Wrap up Thursday night. Departures on Friday 13th.
First priority will be to secure accommodation room blocks and sponsorship. Once I have that, I'll start the official thread.
This will be followed by a registration page somewhere (most likely Eventbright).
I don't think I'll be able to utilize PayPal this year, as I've had some major issues with them and no longer use that account.
I'll figure out a new means when needed, unless anyone has any suggestions?
-
OK, just for the sake of . . . .
The dates for Custer would most likely be July 11-13 (Wed - Fri) or 10 - 12, or 10 - 13.
This is 2-3 weeks before the shit show in Sturgis and before it turns into Harley Central.
The traffic in the area was minimal for tourist and you could get a seat just about anywhere for lunch/ dinner.
Lest we forget, not a few miles away from Dillon (in Silverton) was the women's Harley Riders meet the week around when we were there in '09.
I'm happy with either location. Whatever ya'll decide is what I will organize, so it's one less thing I
get blamed forneed to decide on.Just get a hold of everyone, bump this thread and VOTE. Don't get trumped into something or wish you woulda coulda shoulda cause you didnt' vote.

After a summer of scouting, touring, remembering, riding and experiencing - it's time to chose a site for the 2018 meet.

Nicely done Rob!!! That last pic of the 2 of you, looks like it's got just as big a sh#t eating grin, like a newly adopted puppy.
We all know the work you do will be meticulous.
Love that sound. Looking forward to watching the progression.

Road through ALL the rain Fri to get here. New tires mounted and ready to be scrubbed in.
Great parking lot time last night seeing old familiar faces.
Mike's Place pub was packed and good grub.
Morning coffee with the crew and getting ready for an easy day ride.
WARNING TO ALL: between Salmo, Nelson, Kaslo and New Denver there are a TON of cops on patrol. Watch your speed and avoid the souvenirs.

Just landed in Walla Walla. Last time we have net access before Nelson.
Booked in Fri.at noon for new tires & breaks at Main Jet Honda in Nelson.
New owners at Service Creek and no more corn beef (bummer) but still worth the ride.
Chased by rain once or twice in the last 2 days, but looking like hot weather tomorrow on. Perfect for the lake break.
See ya'll there!

The weather in the Pac NW has been cooler than normal for July - a touch wetter here and there - but perfect riding weather. Forecast except for tomorrow is more of the same. I rode OR 34 to Waldport and back about 10 days ago - almost no traffic on a weekday. What a road - the twisties over the summit are a treat. Sounds like you're having a fantastic trip! Post some photos if you can. Cheers
Um, was I supposed to stop and take photos? Oops

Had a great day ride today. The weather is STELLAR!
Thanks for the road work tip. We came through it yesterday and this afternoon, thankfully shut down for the weekend.
We're heading E from Waldport on the 34, then the 126 and a few others heading for La Pine, OR Monday night.
When we got back to the room there was a VFR and a Duc in the parking lot - 2 guys (1 Calgary/ 1 Port Coq).
Looks like I'll be booking a tire re/re in Nelson for Friday, so I should be arriving early in the afternoon.

Now in Newport. Long day. Tried to find a new road but ended up graveled. See Jeff, I try.
Cool here as expected. Enjoying a Dead Guy Ale.

Furfther to jimbob's suggestion, stay away from Aladdin Rd N of Colville as there is major road work until late September.
We'll be heading N via Kettlefalls to Northport.
We just got into Yakima. Great day, nice weather, lots of PoPo and medium traffic.

We're still planning a route up there, Bizbat will be riding with me. I'm off Thursday so will probably head up over 20 and stay at Winthrop Friday and then follow Tonasket east to Kettle Falls and north from there.
CVVFR, jimbob & I are leaving from 16 miles E of Northport (Deep Lake) on Friday 10-11ish? No real schedule.
Not sure of our exact route up, but most likely taking the 3 to the 3A, up from Creston to the DH1 and coming into Nelson from the NE.
Looking at arriving sometime in the late afternoon.
I have my cell with me, but no reception at the cabin.
We're heading out today for Yakima & Newport, so you can always call or email until Wed next week.
-
I PM'd Superfunkomatice earlier. As I grew up in the area, I'll be taking a casual ride route and welcome to have anyone who cares to come along.
There's apparently a great place for burgers in Salmo to stop at for lunch, with lots of potential side roads, unique vistas and picture pace.
See ya'll in a few weeks!

I am thinking of leaving my place in Coeur d'Alene on Thursday morning so as to ride.... somewhere....... and have fun riding Thursday the 21st and then Friday up to Nelson.... Maybe up in NE Washington?? Maybe up by Yaak Montana and Koocanusa??
If anybody is coming this way and the timing works let me know and maybe we get in a day or so of riding on the way up.. I could be talked into camping too....
Let me know if this might work...
PM sent

We'll be coming out of a few days in Newport, taking the attached route over 3 days.

Leaving Newport on the Monday, hotels booked in LaPine, OR for Mon, Walla Walla for Tue, then staying at a lake cabin Wed & Thur.
Will be casual riding the whole way, arriving in Nelson late Friday afternoon.
I just checked the link and seems some of our planned roads got changed? Not sure if I did it correct on this new site format.
Anywho, still have time to edit.

Is it time yet?
jimbob,
CVVFR & I will be coming up, via 97 & St Maries through your hood on the Thurs before. Stopping overnight at my lake cabin in WA.
Then, a nice 250+ mile run up on the Friday to Nelson.
I'll be posting routes later in the new year, but we'd be glad to have you along.

CVVFR & I will be doing a tour down to Newport, then 4-5 days across Oregon, Idaho & Washington the week before the Kootenay Hoot.
Just working on routes and such now. Once we confirm, I'll be releasing the routes for anyone who wishes to join us - is welcome.
Our final goal will be to arrive in Nelson on the Fri, around 2PM via the DH1 up from Creston.
Nothing but back, squiggly roads in between.
