  1. So I’m a noobish I just picked up 98 VFR it’s beautiful and it’s been having what appears to be having the dreaded tps issue I seem to see a lot of. It idles amazing but if I crank the throttle too fast it dies. It also threw 8 flashes on the dash. After some testing I’m pretty sure where the last owner set up the power commander to the tps signal wire he used butt connectors and different gauge wires and the wire from sensor is crimped so close to the socket that I can’t remove it and solder the connection back together. And the tiny amount of wire that is exposed between tps connector and butt connector appears to have been bent and possibly have shorted right next to the tps connector. I did a wiggle test with the voltage meter I’m losing continuity when wiggled a certain way. So im pretty sure it’s the wire harness from the tps connector. So I purchased a used throttle body off of eBay not knowing there was a difference between the 98/99 to the 00/01. Originally I was just going to use tps sensor and wire harness but with all these parts in great condition and the tps being calibrated to the throttle body I was hoping to just swap the throttle body so I would have an untainted wire harness and newer parts. Everything on the new throttle body is perfect. It came from a running bike and it appears to have had super low miles. So it would be far nicer to use all the newer parts and just direct swap. Though I have learned that the main difference is the wax unit. I tried searching if it’s possible to mount the newer unit onto the older motor and it seems like it is possible. I was wondering if I could remove the wax unit and and the starter valves and swap with the old ones. What I was hoping for even more is if I could remove the cable mount for the choke from the old unit and mount it to the newer starter valves and would I have to recalibrate the starter valves or if I they should be fine after I swap the wax unit mount on the valves. It appears it would be fine but I need an expert I tried searching high and low and maybe because of my add and my rush for the last nice days before Seattle weather hits I’m just over looking things. But if someone could direct me to a thread that would help immensely. After all the research I’ve done I have fallen in love with this bike. I have great plans for this monster and I just need help. Been a car mechanic most of my life only worked on a few bikes please help me please and thank you. I’m stuck
