Thanks for the help. After further investigation. It appears to be the socket that is faulty. I have a new one on order. I appreciate the assistance! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So, all bulbs work in left side taillight, but not on the right side. Brake lights work but taillights do not. Any thoughts on what to do now? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This is what I bought. I read that a 4473 was a replacement. It shows 25/5.9W. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My right rear tail light is out. I replaced the bulb, but same issue. The brake light works, but tail light does not. Any thoughts on where to start. The left rear tail light and all other lights are fine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Chain tension is according to spec. Bike has been well maintained (at least since I've owned it). May just be a VFR thing...
-
Thanks, I'll pull the chain and check. I hope that's all it is. None of my other bikes are this stiff.

My rear wheel does not seem to spin freely when on centerstand. It takes a good bit of effort. If I give it a roll (with a good bit of effort) it quickly quits spinning. It will stop within a quarter turn. It is not the brakes dragging.I took the caliper off and same thing happens. I just replaced the brake pads and bled the system, like I said, its definitely not the brakes. About 6 months ago I changed the the sprocket and chain. When riding, it seems fine. Accelerates well, brakes fine, no vibrations or anything out of the norm. I'm thinking a bad bearing, but there are quite a few bearings in there. Anyone have any thoughts? Or where I should start looking? I'd rather not start spending a lot of money chasing demons.

Nothing too bad. I've had the bike for about a year and a half. Had an 04 VTEC before this one. I just don't remember it being that tight.
-
I replaced fluid and bled the entire system. It took a while, but got it done. When I had the rear caliper off, I noticed the rear wheel is hard to spin. Appears to have nothing to do with brakes. I'm not sure if this is normal. I don't remember it being this difficult to rotate. I put everything back together and took it for a spin. Rode fine, accelerated well, brakes worked great. Just seems odd that the rear wheel doesn't seem to spin very freely. Does this have anything to with it being a single sided swingarm and no axle?

Cogswell, Not smoothly. When I pushed the caliper in towards the disk to compress the pistons, it would not compress them all the way. Once I got the pads out I was able to compress them enough with a screwdriver (I was careful not to gouge or scratch the pistons) to squeeze the new pads in.

So I just replaced rear brake pads on my '01. I put on new Galfers. It was a pain to get the new pads in and seemed awfully tight. Once it was all assembled, there is noticeable dragging. Question is: Will it possibly clear up once they get broken in?

Running Rough And Slight Miss At Lower Rpms
Shooter replied to ridered's topic in Fifth Generation VFR's
Had same issues with my 2001. Serious flat spot at about 4500rpm, I could only get about 130 miles per tank, temperature would not not rise above 160 - 165. It generally ran, but very rough. It was the thermostat. Once I replaced it (took about 2 1/2 hours), all was right with the world. This would be my guess for you as well. -
I usually get 7-8000 miles out of a Z6 front. Not sure why you'd think that needs to be replaced already. I'll pull the front wheel this weekend to check balance.
-
While riding this weekend, I noticed some strae vibrations coming from the front end at about 90mph. Not sure of the cause. If I look down the fork legs, I can see them vibrating as I roll. Below 80mph, no issues, bike is smooth, over 90 mph -vibration. Front tire looks good, no cupping or anything. Everything else seems fine. Its an '01 with 17,000 miles. Front tire is a metzler MEZ6 with about 4000 miles and tread is still good. Could it be the balance of the front tire? If, its good below 80mph. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

Got in a great ride on the Blue Ridge today. Managed to slip between storms.

Well I got the bulbs replaced. I started to do it without removing the front fairing and after struggling I decided to pull it off. What no one mentioned was the fact that the rubber boots that go around the back side of the headlights come off so easily and I could have easily done it without removing the front fairing. For future reference and anyone else doing this procedure, there is a little tab at the bottom of the boot that can be easily lifted up and out in order to gain access to the clip that holds the bulb in once the connection is removed. Oh well, next time I will remember.... New bulbs are in and life is good once again!
-
Thanks! I ordered two bulbs thinking the same thing. That once one goes, the other will also..... I've got some decent size meathooks, but have a twelve year old daughter who can maybe get her little digits in there. She helps me rebuild old Hondas, so not afraid of getting a little dirty. Plus I'm colorblind so she helps out with rewiring projects.

Low beam just went out on left headlight on my '01. Question is: does the front cowl have to come off to replace bulb? Or can the bulb be replaced without removing the cowl? Thanks in advance!

Has Anyone Used One Of These Ebay Seat Cowls?
Shooter replied to Shooter's topic in Fifth Generation VFR's
Thanks VFROZ, I was worried about that. So you don't think its even good enough to cut out for the grab rail handles? Most of the ebay OEM ones are about $100. I hate to cut up some decent piece of bodywork... -
I'm thinking of ordering one of these to put on my '01 VFR. I want to cut out sections for the grab rails, and put quick disconnects on to make it easy to take on and off. Has anyone installed these on their bike? I'm interested in fit and quality. Since I plan on cutting, it only needs to be but so good. I have the OEM one and do not want to cut that, but for $40, I figured it may not be a bad option as long as the holes and tabs line up properly. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rear-Seat-Cover-Cowl-for-Honda-VFR-800-RR-VFR800-98-01-6033-/371302840465?var=&hash=item56735fb891&vxp=mtr

At around 50 - 60 degrees F ambient temperature, my '01 hovers between 170 & 175 degrees F.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'll be pulling the fairing this weekend to have a look. The chain probably needs a little tightening, but nothing major has maybe an inch of free play. It seems to be worse when warmed up, they when cold. And, yes I only hear/fell it when starting to move. Another strange thing I noticed is a very subtle vibration that comes on at 105 mph an progresses up to at least 130 mph. I feel it in the same area (my left foot). I didn't notice it before, but it seems to have come on about the same time that this started happening. I am thinking that this is not a coincidence.

I have recently noticed some clanking and clatter noise and can also feel it in my left foot when I ease out the clutch in first gear to take off. It just started doing this about three weeks ago. It only does this in first gear. I do not notice anything awkward on downshifting. Does anyone have any thoughts on what this could be? BTW, the bike is a 2001 800 with about 15,000 miles on it. Thanks for any input.
