  1. Choco, I am now a "possible maybe" to meet you guys in Bend. I am trying to get Friday the 25th off work. If that works, then I'd meet you guys in Bend on Friday night in time for a beer and dinner in that order. Then ride the loop with all of the gang on Saturday. Head home Sunday and back to work Monday. I have your cell phone number. I'll know for sure by Tuesday evening. I'll post up here and text you one way or the other. I know you guys are staying at Red Lion. I'll sort out lodging on Tuesday even if its a campground. For reference my mobile# is 916-412-4828. Coming north from Sacramento - if it works out. I'm crossing my fingers. Cheers, Ernie

Good to have you after all. There are a lot of motels/hotels in Bend, did you try the McMennamins St. Francis? You may be the only California rider with us. Very cool.

E-Ticket what time are you guys planning on heading out to Hood River.. I'll be headed out from Hillsboro could definitely meet up and head out in force...

Early Thursday morning sometime. Early enough to grab gas and brekkie in Hood River and then meet da' gang around 8:30am.

Won't know exact time until we get closer and think it all through.

    - ET

I'll scout out a good place for breakfast in HR, unless someone has a suggestion/favorite place. Perhaps the Best Western will fit the bill.

That would be awesome, Lee. It would be nice to keep it all "awesome and easy."

Meeting for brekkies at the Best Western would be the easiest way to accomplish that.

    T'anks! - rb

  3. I just sent Cogswell a message about departure time on Thursday morning. If it takes you guys an hour from Portland we should be able to leave Hood River around 9-10. It's about 5 hours to Baker City, not counting stops.

That will make it super-easy for us. :^)

Susan and I will launch early enough to get into HR, gas up and grab some brekkie, and then be over at the BW hotel around 8'ish for some visitin' time

before the crew launches out for Baker City.

We do have a room reserved at the Best Western in Hood River but I think that we will be releasing it tomorrow.

As it's only an hour's drive from Portland -- I think that we will save the cost of the room and just show up Thursday morning ready to roll.

As to what time we will ride out? Dunno' at the point.

We'll have to get closer to see what peeps are planning for breakfast, rider's meeting, or a launch time.

Are you going out on Wed. afternoon/evening, Dfnsman69?

  6. Just found this thread ... and glad I did.

Yup -- E-Ticket and Flying Ant will be joining y'all. :cheerleader:

Check/approve schedule later this week ... and then make some reservations. eh. <g>

    Cheers! E-Ticket

Should we just find you randomly parked by the roadside somewhere by chance? haha

LOL! Yah ... maybe ... who knows? :^)

Well, we had a lot of irons in the fire lately ... so was a bit tardy on booking rooms.

Here's our tale of success and woe.

The Hood River Best Western was out of the "VFRD" block of rooms ... but got us another room at the same price.

But even with the discount ... it's a bit pricey for us. (The FunBudget is really getting a workout this summer.)

So we may bag the room and just show up on Wednesday morning as Hood River is only an hour's ride from Portland.

    We'll see.

Booked at the Bridge Street Inn in Baker City ... no problemo.

Went to book in Bend. And ... uh-oh.

Guess who discovered that there is a lacrosse tournament in town that weekend and all motels are booked for Friday and Saturday?

But we lucked out and found a room at the Motel West just down the street from the Red Lion.

About a 6 block walk or a short zip on the mo-mo.

    So we're in! eh. :^)

  8. So how much a difference did it make when you fired it up? - I got a carbon pipe I need to do this with. (Great photos and post.)

    MD

I did not pack it as tightly as I should have, needed more glass packing. It sounded more throaty, still too loud - it was a D and D afterall. I ended up with a new Staintune the next season. I gave it to one of the wera guys on the forum for track use, it made good power.

Just thinkin' out loud here... But the steel wool, while helping prevent premature blowout of the packing, may also be blocking the absorption of sound?

    E-Ticket

Staintunes are packed with nothing but stainless steel wool, they absorb sound, or actually the pockets of air do inside the wool. Stainless wool is just more resilent than fiberglass in terms of resistance to shock.

I did not know that ... thanks! E-Ticket
