I would say the same for my Remus cans - a bit louder with the cat gone, but not harsh.
bit loud just off idle and low RPM, resonating in my helmet a bit but smooths out and much less noticeable after that.

Well, it's not like I'm totally surprised here... 😄
I have a couple options. Delkevic makes a "quieter" baffle that drops the sound 1-3 dB, or so it says. I can also try their next-shortest increment and buy two 13" tri-oval mufflers from them, but I think they might stick out too far back. My options for rotating the exhaust splitter further forward/up are kind of limited, so it is what it is.
Will almost certainly at least go for the quieter baffles, but for now...been too long without the bike!
I have Leovince pipes and they are straight through but "reasonably" unoffensive and sound just wonderful. just don't seem to have the harshness of other mufflers.
though they are a bit louder than they were with the EM cat installed. Not quiet really but still not annoying as far as I can tell. deep and melodic without being raspy and harsh.

That aluminium center stand is an awesome idea! You have mad fabricating skills!its a sickness....I like my convenience but I like my weight reduction just as much!

On the very first post in this thread there are some comments on the design Parameters, One Was that the collEctor diameteR would be 2 inch and mid pipes would need to be modified to suit.
I'm an idjit! and getting old! Its been a LONG time since I read the thread, I do remember this bit now.😏
Anyway, I' see how she flies tomorrow!

Finally got the header mounted. Welded on a couple extra bungs (front-left and rear-left) so I can tune front to rear lambda. Also welded on the centre stand stopper from the old header.
Had it ceramic coated also.
Question: Does the gen5 and gen8 have a larger exit diameter? cause mine arrived with a tube diameter larger than the OEM exhaust??? I had to chop the end off the OEM exhaust and weld it onto the new one, no biggie for me but I wonder how others with 6th gen's went or did mine get missed during fab I wonder?
While I had it all apart I also build a new Aluminium Center stand. It weighs in at about 650g starting some weight loss fabrications to come.

Wow, I did not know that even existed. I have been toying with the idea of Megasquirt on another project but am trying to avoid getting carried away. I bought the VFR because my other bike
was turninghas turned in to a perpetual occasionally rideable project and I wanted something to just ride. So far I'm struggling with that.Yeah, its not cheap though (not the black version I am getting) but it is a power house!
yeah I need a second bike so I can "projectify" the other.

Following this with some interest. It seems those who have tried an RB after a PC think it was money well spent, and I am the sort to play with the options. My gen 5 has no stock O2 sensors and I am not averse to spending money, but the full in cost to install an RB with 2 Wideband sensors and MTB modules plus the headers is about what I paid for the bike. I might just bung the pipes on and see how it goes.
I am going to probably do a complete ECU swap with probably a ECU Master ECU. might be a while but having complete control will be nice. covering all the options of the RB for not a hell of a lot more. few things to work out of course.

are we still waiting for a few people to pay the balance? I know I was a tad late (I had to muck about with paypal). Anybody know anything? To be clear, I am in zero hurry, just curious (and a tad excited maybe)
Oh BTW a massive thanks to all they guys that made this happen.
cheers!

Yes. Myself and sfdownhill are the two main members involved with this project, so if the thread was created by either of us, then it could be considered as "official". Although there are a few other members who hand a hand in getting this to come to fruition.
No worries , I mentioned the thread over on FB vfr Australia group. see if any bites.

We don’t see ponying up for extra sets of headers as a feasible option.
We’re checking to see if the tube-bending guy might get started on our current order if he gets paid for bending 15 sets, but only has to bend tubes for ~ 10 sets.is this the official thread for these headers?

We proposed to Wade that we’d consider paying his mandrel tube-bending subcontractor the total amount for bending his minimum order of 15 sets even though we’d only be purchasing 10 sets. Thanks to VFRD member Dangeruss for this creative potential solution. The minimum order is the bender’s requirement, not Wade’s. The response was a bit cryptic, so we are continuing the conversation in an attempt to get a clear answer.sweet, all good, just curious if some movement.
sounds like a good idea. but sounds like someone would have to pony up for the extra sets???
either way no really hurry.

any updates? getting closer to next run?

agreed!, my fault...If you're referring to Mohawk's bike, then that would be wrong-ish. Their profile is not stock at all (based on RC45), but I seem to recall he had stock cams reground rather than completely new manufactured items. I could be wrong about that last though.I do however think we are straying way off topic here and we should really be sticking to the WILD exhaust system. I am far from blameless in this I know, but I think we should get back on track and curtail our 'flights of fancy'.

Cam regrind got me thinking and being a practical man I like the idea of the VTEC in the sense that you could get the second stage reground but still have low speed drivability. Although the transition may not be very nice. This thread takes so many twists and turns, never know where the conversation will be when I check back in
First of all thanks for the answers up thread.
-As others have said, the modifications are part of the fun
-Power/Weight ratio is important but its not the final word - does anyone want to ride a 1000hp/1000lb bike, I certainly don't. Lightness is its own reward, I wish all the resources manufacturers had thrown at increasing power outputs had been focused on reducing weight. A 50hp 275lb bike would be amazing fun
-Speaking of big bore VFRs, the CBR-1000RR-R has a bore/stroke of 81mm by 48.5mm. Approx same stroke as the VFR so you could possibly utilize the lightweight conrods and associated hardware. I wonder if the 81mm bore would work. That would be quite a VFR1000
And also the added benefit of keeping the low speed fuel economy.
this depends on the head room available with with Cam reprofiling.
I have sent an email off to Elgin cams see what they have to say about it.
And as with most of the replies I get from these kinds of companies they'll probably tell me it's not worth it and to bugger off. I always seem to find myself going down the path of most resistance. Like fuel injecting my DR 650 as an example .... " why the hell would you do that?"

ahhh, so stock cams? interesting...and the 5th is probably lighter too? getting a second engine and working on that souns like a plan.So HighsideNZ has a 5th gen engine in 6th gen frame, with a 74mm bigbore & all of my mods for 140hp.
I have a lightweight 5th gen circa 205Kg wet, with 120hp. I'd like to do more to it, but time & money always arrive independently I never seem to have both at the same time.
Happy modding

Yes I get the customise thing, as Mohawk will testify, I'm not a standard bike kinda guy either. But trying to extract huge power increases, to me means I started with the wrong bike. Particularly as actual engine performance has virtually nothing to do with how fast I may, or can ride.
yep you are right, I'll probably not go down that road unless I get a bee in my bonnet. I modify stuff just because I can, if it was a calculated thought process I probably wouldn't be riding bikes at all.

sorry i am waaaay off topic

Doesn't have to be anything like a pig. My eVo4's plenty nimble and fast enough. Just ask Mohawk. 😀
sorry, I'm talking out my ass....I have not ridden one. just looked at the specs. and also the fuel consumption is apparently not great. but like I said , in that genre its one of the best looking bikes!

Mohawk is not at 140. More like 120 something, I forget exactly what. I've ridden with him and it's a nice quick bike.
I still wonder though at trying to make a bike go faster. Seems a bit of a fool's errand. Why not just buy the faster bike in the first place. Not like they're in short supply and nothing, I mean NOTHING will ever make a VFR800 go like e.g. a FireBlade. Or a VFR1200 come to think of it.
challenge accepted! 🙂
150hp is needed to match the 1200 power to weight .... assuming a few pounds of weight loss, so yeah thats a tall order and sounds like supercharger territory, Im sure Ive seen 160hp dyno chart somewhere????
see, I had an aprilia rsv1000 and I spent a lot of time trying to make that thing comfortable. I decided to sell it and now I have a VFR (3 bikes later)
For me at least, I like to modify things. best to start with a bike I really like to ride and mod it....it is MUCH more about the journey and having something unique. sure I can get a K1200 or something but there is a bunch of stuff I don't like about that bike that is insurmountable.
I don't want JUST a fast bike. I want all the things the VFR has to offer and then I start modifying it to make it mine, make it special and enjoy the journey. Turn up on a R1 , the guys say "ok cool there is an R1, nice bike" . Turn up on a supercharged VF800 with trick and custom bits all over it and they say "damn, that thing is sick!!!". not that I care, its more about knowing that it is something I have created.
But that's just me.

Great questions all, but somewhere in there, some combination of my knowledge, experience and authority has been exceeded - lol - I have a heavy underpowered 5 gen with Power Commander! (Really all VFRs under 1200cc’s are underpowered - see exceptions below)Look up threads/posts by VFRD member Mohawk - I believe he is the VFR weight loss champion having lost ~ 34kg off his 5 gen (Absolutely apologize, HighSideNZ, if I’ve got that wrong and your 6 gen is skinniest!).
HighSideNZ, Mohawk, and CandyRedRC46 all come to mind when I think of the horsepower brokers on this forum - having achieved 120-140+ hp with their VFR800s. You can learn at least 1.5 metric tons from their mods, builds, threads and posts.
Someone running Rapid Bike or familiar with that system should be able to chime in with whether it’s possible for the average user to step into tuning mode and tweak their own fuel map...
140....I assume that's supercharged. if not then where do I sign!

oh right i thought it 5.5" damn oh well, i want to stick with 180. maybe weigh with tire on and minus quoted weight of tire?I put the tire on already, I can weight both and start a new thread. With the Aussie convert kit it's just mechanical bolt on of bits, nothing too technical. This is a 6" Duc wheel, so a 190 tire.

yeah it (vfr1200) might have 170hp but its a bit of a pig. but now I look at it the power to weight is quite a bit higher. always loved the look.
