  1. Cageless, and I had some stop and go coming over Stevens Pass. It always bottles up in Index area, this time the Reiter Road cutoff was repaired so I snaked through that road and came out just above Startup, then inched my way to Sultan where I was able to turn off on the Ben Howard Road.

Great event Mike, and be sure to let us know if the numbers don't balance, I'll be happy to help out. It was fun riding with old friends and hanging out with everybody. Curry and I will start working on the Oregon trip, stay tuned.

P.S. The delay through Index cost me an hour but I was able to weed whack and mow already this morning, and NOW I can relax.

P.S.S. Hey Mike, are we getting icons for the bottom of our screens? Hey, I just noticed, I don't have one for the 2008 Koot Hoot.

Heading out this morning in just an hour or two.. I will be in the Kettle Falls / Northport area tonight, meeting up with didit there, then on up to roam around Koot Lake on Friday..  Looking forward to some fun nonsense in Nelson,

    Safe travels to all..

We'll have to check out routes home from Nelson, maybe you can excite me about some roads in Idaho? I'm bringing a map or two, or three . . .,

The Northport Brewery actually used to be in Northport, just a bit shy of the border north of Kettle Falls, pretty decent IPA, I must say.

Ask Tony about the beer bars in Seattle?

  3. My soft bags are mostly packed, Jim will be here around 8 am and off we go, all good roads from Monroe all the way to Nelson. Hope I can sleep well tonight, like a kid going to Disneyland. Jeff call me, but we should be in Marblemount around 11:30 to 12. We'll gas up there and head on into Winthrop, park our bikes and head to the Old Red Schoolhouse for some Ruud Awakening, which won the Washington beer fest IPA a few years ago. Great place, new owners, apparently dedicated to preserving the original recipes.

Just landed in Walla Walla.  Last time we have net access before Nelson.

Booked in Fri.at noon for new tires & breaks at Main Jet Honda in Nelson.

New owners at Service Creek and no more corn beef (bummer) but still worth the ride.

Chased by rain once or twice in the last 2 days, but looking like hot weather tomorrow on.  Perfect for the lake break.

    See ya'll there!

Can't wait to see you Tony, we got a lot to catch up on, ride safely everybody!

  5. This is a much more complicated question than you may imagine, mainly because I am riding once again with one of my all time favorite riding partners, Jeff and he tends to study maps and finds alternative ways to go, but to answer your question, I generally like to head east through Republic and north from Kettle Falls, there's a side trip across the border just east. Also everyone should know there's a great spaghetti place in downtown Trail, the Collander. Try it for supper as they keep filling your plate and its very tasty food.

I still have to work tomorrow, but let us know what your thinking and perhaps we can hook up somewhere . . . .

Now in Newport.  Long day.  Tried to find a new road but ended up graveled.  See Jeff, I try.

Cool here as expected. Enjoying a Dead Guy Ale.

    Africa Twin time, eh?

I do a lot of work surveying cell tower sites in Oregon, I'm getting to know the roads very well even around Newport, btw, where I drank way too much beer at both Rogue breweries last year on my birthday. Will be fun seeing you guys in a few days.

  8. We're still planning a route up there, Bizbat will be riding with me. I'm off Thursday so will probably head up over 20 and stay at Winthrop Friday and then follow Tonasket east to Kettle Falls and north from there. Derek and Tammy, are you thinking about heading south from Osoyoos Friday morning and possibly meeting us at Tonasket, or are you staying in Canada all the way?

If Miguel is reading this, perhaps you might be so kind as to insert the great video you made of us riding from New Denver to Kaslo the first Hootenanny. I love the music you put to it.

I volunteer to lead a pack of driveling Viffers around that loop again, but this year I'm going to visit the ghost town, just talked to some people from South Carolina who rode a rented Harley into the old ghost town and said it's an easy gravel road.

  9. Hey Curry,

I didn't choose from your pole as I think there are a few other areas to look at. I sent you a note, check it out. A good argument can be made for Corvallis too. One thing is for sure, if you're going to book Edgefield, then you might want to call and see how it's booking up for summer. When I booked our rooms there a few years ago I couldn't get Friday because the entire Hotel was booked for a wedding a year in advance.

  10. I think we can find a few more amazing roads to ride in Oregon, and the destination towns are awesome too. I will certainly be happy to organize another Oregon Trail II ride and it can include Newport for the reunion.

I didn't make that first one though. Mr. and Mrs. Keithbob aren't on this site much and I think he's riding a BMW GS or something these days. I tried to interest him in the Oregon Trail last year so we did touch bases. If I recall his summer was already planned.

I will not be able to make the Sum Sum as I started a new job this year and we are super busy. I'm a land surveyor and work for a large engineering firm in Woodinville and Seattle and the Puget Sound area is booming with house construction and cell tower site development. I just don't have enough vacation time to use all in one event. I would love to come, so if anything changes that will allow me to ride to Colorado with the gang, then I certainly will be there.

  11. Thanks for all the nice comments. It was my pleasure to organize this, I had to do it after riding many of the roads last year with my friend from Duvall. Four elements have to come together to make an outstanding meet, good roads, good destinations good weather, and most important of all, good friends. It's the people who ultimately make a VFRD meet what it is and I so enjoyed meeting up again with all my old riding buddies and meeting and riding with new ones. I will get off my ass, or VFR seat, soon, long enough to post some pics of my own. Thanks for all who are posting pics, summaries and videos. Keep them coming.

  12. Made it home safely, it took me three days to get out of Oregon I visited the Evergreen flight museum in McMinnville and then back to Tillamook, and stayed in an ocean access room halfway between Tillamook and Cannon Beach foggy, windy and very cool on the coast. Nice ride along west side of Hood Canal came around a bend and there are about 25 motorcycles in a group all were white and white helmets ........ State Patrol practicing or setting up for a parade or something I waved they waved back. Ferry ride from Kingston to Edmonds then a short freeway jaunt until I reached my familiar roads close to home. Amazing trip so nice to see old riding friends and to meet new ones. Hope everyone comes out for the next VFRD meet.

  13. You're always welcome and always fast no matter what you ride!

1007 km today, and I'm back in Edmonton! Today wasn't as warm as yesterday (+37C), so I'm in better shape even with the extra miles.

Major thanks to Choco for being the organizer; the roads, mileage, and beer selection at the end of the day were a perfect combination! Everyone was a blast to hang out with, be it on the road, at the pub, or in a circle of chairs in a parking lot. Hope to make it to another meet to see you all again!

    Cheers,

    Spencer

Lee Marvin says he's glad you had fun. Hope you guys join us on future trips you young whipper snappers!

  14. Jeff must have gotten lost on his back road excursion you left at least an hour or more after him I rode through Sweet Home on way to coast, good that Jeff got a room lots available in Newport too any recommendations?

  15. Cogs back home safely. Lots of you are still out there - especially the ones from Canada with so far to go to get home. Check in when you're back. Shiny side up. Cheers

Glad to hear you made it home safe. I met with my friends from Duvall then rode to top of Pine Butte nice 360 degree view of Bend I rode some nice roads to the coast and am now sitting in Rogue Brewery in Newport the site of the 2006 PNW meet. I know this because V-fore was wearing the shirt. If Keithbob calls me I might have a shirt for him if anyone has his number have him call me 206-369-8258 I might stay over here. I've a tradition of having a breakfast of oysters and eggs etc at this cool spot just a few buildings east of Rogue. I also ready to relax and I just can't figure out why. Epic Pnw meet the roads the scenery the weather but mostly the VFRD people and Bart from Motorcycle-USA made these few days unforgettable!!!!
