  1. This why you are gentle and kind rider or because police is nasty? :laughing6-hehe:

    Ciao, Luigi.

Timmy is both kind and nasty police! :laughing6-hehe:

No - its because Timmy IS the BEST kind of Police. one that rides and is a real person.

  2. Nicely done. I've always thought that if I ever got into riding on the track, I'd like to do it on a VFR - as the skills and bike characteristics would be able to transfer to the racetacks of North Carolina, I mean the roads of NC......

    :fing02:

  3. 1) get a piece of mechanics wire about 12" long and make a hook on the one end - you'll need this to fish out the top washer and actual spring - if you aren't removing the shocks from the bike. (I swapped my spring out with the shock in place).

WTF is this "mechanics wire" you speak of?? Is that like a coat hanger or something? Can't you just use your finger? (I imagine you are using your middle finger by now...) :goofy:

And yeah, a pipe cutter works great!

    Love ya Ken!

I could use my finger if it were about 10 inches long - how do you pull the spring out with the fork still attached to the bike?

Shit - a pipe cutter would have been the way to do it - damn - stupid me.....

Push up on the front wheel. wink.gif Actually, I've never done them with the forks in the bike. I was just hoping to lure you into some kind of "pull your finger out" comeback that I could play off of... :goofy:

Again - stupid me. Never thought to push up on the front wheel. That woulda likely worked. See - for the benefit of all - I take the "Dumb" award! However - the mechanics wire worked like a charm, I'd do it the same again next time.

Oh - and you really don't want to pull my finger, it might be complete devastation to your youthful soul.....

  5. Hey Scott, YES, it is worth just doing springs! It's a very easy job that shouldn't take more than 30 min. max.

Just do it, the correct springs are the Foundation that any decent suspension is built on!

Took me a little more than 30 minutes, but I'm used to being the one HOLDING the flashlight!!

Seriously - I just replaced my fork springs this afternoon. Couple things I'll offer up:

    1) get a piece of mechanics wire about 12" long and make a hook on the one end - you'll need this to fish out the top washer and actual spring - if you aren't removing the shocks from the bike. (I swapped my spring out with the shock in place).

    2) spacer. Racetech includes a long tube in their kits - and its there for you to cut a longer spacer if you need it. I had to make two spacers for my bike - but a hacksaw and a file to clean up the edges worked fine.

    3) beer. Stick to beer for this job - if you go straight to the Whickey - it might be a little scary on that test flight tomorrow.

    4) Set the Sag. Slammer has a great trick - get the bike on the centre stand - attach a zip tie to the fork just above the grease seal. Take the bike off the stand - sit on it with full weight then measure the distance the zip tie moved. Adjust the tension - and you should be good to go.

    5) test flight - then hit the whiskey !!

  6. Ken,

I am very interested in purchasing one of your tail racks for my 2001 gen. 5. I remember you saying that you either have or plan to manufacture a rack that fits lower over the installed tail piece. I have never coresponded with anyone nor have I purchased anything from a VFRD member ie I'm ignorant as to the process. I'll check back on the forum for a responce, or if I'm not violating any rules, you can e-mail me at terrystenz@yahoo.com. Looking forward to hearing from you.

New 5th Gen Solo Rack is 1 inch lower than original version when mounted over tail section.

Let me know if you have other questions.

    thanks

    Ken

  7. Can anyone tell me what the numbers on the spring that my used Ohlins Rear shock came with, mean:

    01092-74/180 L162

Additionally - I'd like to know these numbers on an additional spring I have, mean:

    01092-69/170 L336

I've looked at the charts, and searched the web - but I'm stumped. Maybe I need some Eggnog....... Thanks!

  8. Sasha's bike mods are finished, and he's on his way home. Viffer - I didn't see your post - so you'll have to get in touch with him.

He has an 08 that he bought in the USA and brought over - and its a Silver I hadn't seen before. VERY VERY nice Silver......

Couple obligatory pics, (or Skuuter would get after me!!)

Once again, Radars Sliders are a joy to install and are top notch quality.

  9. My Zumo 550 failed on me last week, and I was not impressed as I'd forgotten to bring the allen wrench to reset the battery.

This afternoon I wrote an email to Garmin and am waiting their reply...

Chev - that sucks about yours failing - sounds like a lot worse than my situation.

ITs a great unit - but they need to figure out the no-start issue!!! :pissed:

  10. Sorry for the minor hijack - but my Zumo 550 which is about 10 months old, is constantly not starting when I hit the power button.

Talked to Garmin awhile back and they sent me a replacement battery. Problem still here. It starts sometimes - and not - MOST times. I have to carry an allen wrench with me to remove the battery which most times resets the Zumo to fire up. I forgot the allen key this last week on a business trip and I was FURIOUS when it wouldn't power up.

I'm going to call Garmin tomorrow and pleasantly demand they take this $800 GPS back and send me a replacement...

  11. Truth is - Darren (RADAR) is now racing in Superbike, hoping for a ride in Moto GP and he is more interested in chasing umbrellas girls than helping us protect our VFR's.

Bastage. Hey - make us some more sliders!!!

Oh yeah - Freddie called me - and said he had some words to describe your riding skills at his school - but he couldn't finish his sentence - he was giggling like a little school girl..............

  12. I have corrected the weird symbols that appeared in the how to thread.

Thanks Slammer for re-posting this in the featured area. I know Radar has several sets of Sliders left. ANyone in Ontario that wants to do this addition and wants some help - let me know. My flashlight is recharging right now......... smile.gif

  13. Is there anyone that bought a Solo Rack from me, that has installed it using their OEM HONDA Topbox?

I have a question from a buyer that is looking to see some pictures of how that type of install went, but I do not have a Honda Topbox - so I can't assist.

Looking for a photo or two - of the Solo Rack with the Honda intermediate plate installed, and then with the Honda top box base installed to it.

If your bike is covered up in the garage, this would be a great time to check that its sleeping ok, and snap a few pics!!

    THank you!!!
