  1. Kel: Surely he could weld the pieces together. The stainless stell tubes are of 1mm wall thickness and Hermann told me that in the past he saw many systems (of other manufacturers, too) with a welded joint fraction due to thermal expansion (app. +50% than normal steel). So he decided to built manifolds using some slip fit pieces 'more than usual'. Thermal expansion (/welded joint fraction) is also the reason why there aren't any 'additional' mounts of the manifold to the engine or to the frame: the only ones are at the outtakes and a fifth one at the muffler clamp - the system is very fixated. Well… steering range is still acceptable (what else should I say instead..?) and something that doesn't bother me. Dutchy: Many thanks - a thrilling final and a happy event for the German Soccer Team... I aged for years yesterday.
  2. Tom, I've talked to Hermann yesterday and he told me that he'll have a friendly ear for you for sure, BUT - as I've already assumed - he requires the bike (in other words: my bike) to build the manifold because he doesn't have dimensioned drawings or something. Please appeal to me and he'll know who you are. Probably his son will answer... good luck! info@rs-haslauer.de - - - Some more photos I took in my garage:
  3. Thanks for your comments guys - I've filled up the gallery with some more photos. Others about the rebuild and stuff will follow.
  4. Tom, I've tried to ring Hermann some hours ago just to hear what he thinks about your request - no chance for now to catch him. I will try again tomorrow. @HispanicSlammer - Miguel: Thanks so much for choosing the right hand side photo of the VFKF project copy as Featured Gallery Photo today! What a surprise, what an honour to me!! BTW: (A little bit delayed:) Happy birthday to you! The date of your birthday looks so familiar to me!
  5. @Dutchy: Very funny, thanksalot! - - penalty after 120min - - - come on, Netherlands! @CornerCarver: Unfortunately I didn't ride the bike before due to a clutch leakage but this didn't bother me as the bike has really been bought as a rebuild project like Toms VFKF . Carbs - as you can see, Hermann added a connector for an air/fuel-sensor in each single manifold - are not jetted yet (I'll do that during the winter..). Nevertheless with the original jetting, the bike pulls like a dream in low and mid range - I like it so much in the hairpins of the Alps! @Tom: Yep, that's my opinion too.. so sad for the Brazilian people - [...] - Surely I can ask Hermann for some copies, but let me tell you 1st that I think he needs the bike at his shop to do /real strainless/ copies (believe me, he's a perfectionist!) - this implicates to carry my bike to him to do the copies...uh and 2nd this ...errr... won't be a special bargain . 3rd I don't know yet if he has got the time doing that stuff...maybe during the winter.. I'll ask him and let you know. How many copies would you need?
  6. 23:35 MEZ SAY IT DUTCHY SAY IT!!!
  7. @CornerCarver: Thanks so much :) About the headers pls. see above - sorry but I didn't heard about Basani before The muffler is of a '04/'05 ZX10R but shortened for about 6 cm due to a canister damage that needed to be cut out
  8. Tom, nice to hear from you again:) You know you are to blame for this copy! :) The rebuild has taken much more longer as I've planned before - but so what. To be exact, the bike isn't finished yet as there are some parts so change: 1st bolster up the rear seat (I like the way you choosed as is looks like a 'straight line' from the rear fairing to the rear seat) & new seat cover in dark blue - 2nd Changing the mirrors. I installed those EC-prooved parts for the TUV approval but I see nothing but my elbows . I've allready the hinged [?] bar end mirror that you've installed but I will think about another solution with something like a bajonet connector & spring - hm, well.. - 3rd I did research for a used exhaust header like Sudco/Hindle or Devil for nearly two months - - - NO WAY So I decided to get into contact to an exhaust specialist named Hermann Haslauer http://www.rs-haslauer.de/bildergalerie.php who did the stainless steel header for me. I'm very pleased about his work (he strived [is that the right word?] for similar lengths for all four single headers) but I like to enlarge the 2-1 piece for another 6 cm so that the muffler will be arranged a little bit higher and little bit rearer and - pleasing for the eye - the muffler hanger shows a 90° angle to the muffler. Call me a fool if you want Nope, sprocket bolts are not painted. Hey... would you really paint titanium bolts?!?! Master front & cluch cylinders are new Nissin radial parts. Overkill? For the clutch definitely yes but the front brake is perfect for one finger braking. I will try to catch some time the following days to post pictures that show some differences to your original VFKF. Some photos Hermann did at his shop before I took the bike back home:
  9. @vfrcapn: speedo gear drive is of a 2002 CB600F Hornet PC34, found in the bay for a handful of bucks @Dutchy: good question ... to my surprise, only two - no need to buy a saddle bag for them! @The Phantom, tomk1960, Veefer800Canuck: Thanks guys!
  10. Hi y'all.. after a long time, I'm back again. The old lady VFKF is running again since four weeks or so and I'm quite happy. Very special thanks to Tom for the inspiration! Whoever asks about all the mods, I used to reply 'Well that's not my idea - it was a guy named Tom from the VFR forum' - I think it's okay to stick to the truth. Surely you all will recognize that its not a 100% copy of Toms VFKF project - you're right - so I did some /other/ mods. If there are any questions, please feel free to contact me. This week I hope to take the time to add some more pictures.
  11. Hi , I'm Wolfgang from Germany and I'm a new member. First of all I'd like to say that I'm sorry about my bad English (well... school's out for a long time...) but I hope my grammar isn't as bad as you might not understand what I want to know / like to say. You guys - YES, I've read many of your VF1000F/R topics for the last weeks and months so I think there are many specialists around here as their names are e.g. Jamie, Thomas, Sebastian, Kelly and Larry (just to name a few; sorry to those I've forgotten) - are doing fantastic work and there are many handy hints and many good informations for me as a VF1000F newbie... time to thank you all! Afterwards I don't know how I detected the earlier VFRs topics but what I still recall is that I found some pictures of a modified VF1000F with RC51 fork/bottom triple/front brake discs front calipers/front wheel and the guy - Tom - had posted a new topic to request which color he should paint the front fender... man, real CF made by Tyga is the choice and the bike seems a dream to me! I think that was the moment I've internally decided to rebuild a bike EXACTLY like this one and so I like to ask - don't laugh about that! - if it is 'allowed' to rebuild a VF1000F mutant? :-) By the way I appreciate handy hints further on so I hope you guys may help me with some details to solve some problems I will encounter [don't know how to express myself, sorry]. The 'mutant copy project' has just started as I've bought an old SC15 (already disassembled), RC51 parts as listed above, LSL 929 top triple (btw. LSL is a german company :-) and superbike bar, SC33 rear wheel + 520 sprocket + brake disks, VF1000R swing arm, caliper hanger and torque arm and - I hope it will work: - a Hornet 600 tachometer sensor. What I have to buy/order next is the Nissin rear caliper (of a 2000/2001 TZ250, am I right?), a longer (+1/2") rear shock (I ogle with an adjusable Wilbers 641) and - I like the US VF1000F with "HONDA" on the tank! - a decal set (talked to a varnisher today who did a lot of Ferraris, AC Cobras and Lambos the last thirty years... other stuff than my Volkswagen Golf, uh!) I know that SC15's are having some oiling problems with the camshaft so I like to do the Tony Donisi oil modification like Tom did. So my first question is where I exactly have to drill and hole for the -4AN 90° adapter. Is it the 'flat spot' near the second 'bottom' screw from the right which holds the right engine cover? Second question is about the clutch release bracket. Tom, as you wrote you got the bracket from winning-run.com.. do you know if they are still offering it? I've talked to a metalworking colleague at the company I'm working for and he told me it would be no problem to make some copies... but first I need an original part so I have to BUY one. Any hints? Thanks in advance to y'all Wolfgang P.S.: I will post some pictures as possible (just to let you know: I'm rebuilding my (sorry:) ZX11, building a (sorry again:) 'superlightweight' ZX13 (- 80 kg) and a VF750F Freddie Spencer AMA replica at the same time... ;-\)
