  1. I'm trying to pick sprockets and think I'll go with a 4:1 ratio. Some guys with eteks/perm132 go 5:1 up to 7:1. Other guys with smaller ADC motors go anywhere from 3.5:1 to 4.5:1. My motor is larger with more power, so 4:1 should be just right. I'm changing from 530 chain (#50) to #40 chain to make it more quiet. Sprocketspecialists have sprockets for me for under $100, and surpluscenter.com has sprockets and nickel chain.

Cool project. I'll be interested to see how it turns out. By any chance, have you thought about going to a belt drive instead of a chain? That would really keep your noise level down.

  2. I can't say anything that has already been said. Like everybody else, I have really enjoyed your threads, your insight, and pictures of the great fabricating you've done. I was completely caught off guard when you mentioned the low side.

Whatever bike you get, don't forget to check in here from time to time. I think I can speak for everybody when I say that you will always be welcome at VFRD, no matter the bike.

  3. I'm not quit sure but I think it's borderline bouncy on the slow shaft speeds. You know, the under 30 MPH small consecutive bumps. A few more miles should help figure what the adjustment will be.

    Thanks for listening.

I think its cool what you're doing. Keep up the good work.

One thing I'd like to mention (and I think folks already know this but the above quote sounds kinda confusing) is that when talking about high and low speed compression or rebound settings, the reference to speed is not the speed of the bike(i.e. 30 mph). It is the speed of the up and down travel of the fork/shock that matters. As an example, a sharp edged bump in the road would cause the fork to compress and extend rapidly, where as a frost heave or slow undulation in the pavement would cause the fork to travel up and down slowly.
