Welcome from the other part of the state :)
If you're ever down in this corner, drop me a line. Pretty sure there are a couple other members scattered throughout as well.
As far as luggage, I recently with the OEM bags and they're awesome, but the Givi bags can go with you if you change bikes (but who really does that around here anyway
).

I have a DanMoto CF system on my 05 that's for a 5th Gen and it sounds really good, if not a little loud. I'm going back to an underseat to add hard bags, so if you're interested in it let me know. I was planning to list it for $75 + shipping cost.

Am I the only redneck here that just stuffs a backpack into each bag? I need to join high society and get me some of those fancy bags!

Nice vid Drew, I absolutely love that road, just wish the speed limit was a little higher so the price of the ticket wouldn't be so daunting :)
I try to make the Skyline/BRP trip at least once a year!

Lovin' it! Great vid Doc. Good to see there's some nice riding options in OH, we don't have much that looks like that down here in the SW corner

Just my two cents, but I'm planning to go with a Bell helmet for my next purchase. The Star is tops, but a little expensive for my tastes, the RS-1 is a little closer to what I'm looking to spend, but ultimately I'm seriously considering the new Revolver EVO (modular). The biggest draw for me right now is the photochromic shield that self tints like some pairs of glasses. I hate losing space in my tankbag/luggage for an extra shield and I've tried the drop down visor scenario but my two attempts (HJC ISMax and Scorpion EXO500) both offered slightly distorted views and lacked the tinting I'm looking for - granted you can buy darker inner screens but the distortion was difficult to overcome.
My current lid is an older HJC FS15 and I love it. The fit is great, nice and comfortable and the noise level isn't obnoxious...and it vents pretty well. I bought a pinlock insert to help with fogging in colder temps and rain and it's seen almost 3 full seasons of use at this point and still rocks.
Good luck Yokel, I know there's a lot out there and it can be a real pain to find exactly what you're looking for.

I spent 4 days in Harrison earlier this summer and the best way I can sum up our adventure would be that the roads are 80-90% as good as TN/NC with 10-15% of the traffic (bikes, cars or LEOs). We hit traffic one time and that was only because of construction on 7 past the Hub turn off. Pick up the Motorcycling Arkansas pamphlet from the hotel and check out the Peel's Ferry route. Once you take the ferry across and continue northward, break away from the planned route and stay on 125 a little longer through Missouri, it's a great run. I'd also recommend the DD and I think it's route 341, that was awesome. Mountain Home is also a great stopping point for a break, lunch, etc.
You really can't go wrong anywhere in that area, but be mindful of the critters - especially turtles!!! We saw more of those than anything else. Few deer, dogs, and the normal fare...the turtles were a trip, hah.
Ride safe, it's a great area.

Not sure if you mean just looking at the outside of the connectors, but it might be worth pulling apart the connections and checking the wires inside. BR just had a wire (can't remember off the top of my head which) fry inside the connector that didn't look to be burnt on the outside.

Just got my 6th gen solo rack in the mail the other day and mounted it up. I can't recommend it enough to those that are looking for a top case rack.
KanadianKen is a top notch guy and he delivers a top quality product, and wicked fast to boot.
I'll try to get some non-crapphone pics in the near future and post up for reference.
Good stuff, thanks again Ken!

That sounds really nice...and I'd bet its downright wicked when you reach above 6k
.
Coming from someone that can't weld at all, they look quite good :)
If you're ever interested in doing the project over, I would actually consider going back to an undertail setup for something like this. I dig it!

These are beautiful and brutally painful! I had the pleasure of my dad being stationed at Fort Carson as a kid and have been trying to drag my wife back out there ever since...unfortunately she's not having any part of it
.
Thanks so much for putting these together, excellent job and even better content!

Bay, have you had yours out in the rain at all? A couple people said they had issues with the seals leaking both around the visor and around the modular mechanism. I seem to have a bad weather curse on trips and that would suck if that's typical, lol.
-
i used to love my Nolan flip up, but it lives in Holland now. I have been watchin the revolver as well. watch here for more info:
I saw that one and the one at Revzilla and they both seem to have good opinions of it, it was just a couple of the reviews that sparked some mild concern. I'll be sure to post up a review if I pull the trigger.

Hey guys, I've been considering the idea of using a modular helmet for touring and came across what looks like a decent deal on the Bell Revolver. Most of the reviews are positive, but there are some that note excessive noise, excessive and turbulent air flow inside and some seal issues when used in rain. I realize that the riding style, type of bike, shape of head, etc all affect how a helmet will fit and perform so I can't put too much weight on most of the reviews.
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these helmets on the VFR's? This will at least give me an idea of how the helmet acts when used on the same bike and rule out one of the variables.
Any input, positive or negative, is greatly appreciated.

That's good, maybe they're finishing up. I still get a kick out of the escort vehicles that you have to wait for down there. Up here they just toss us to the wind and hope we figure out how to navigate a construction area, lol.
The weather on top of the BRP is a trip in itself. We hit it in July this year and left Cincy at about 92 degrees on Wednesday. Thursday was beautiful as we made it down to Hillsville (IIRC). Friday, as we neared the southern end of the BRP, we spent the entire day in 40 degree rain and wicked dense fog. That was interesting to say the least. Heading home on Saturday through the Skyway and surrounding awesomeness, it was back to mid-80's and full sun.

Great pics! Thanks for sharing with those of us less fortunate this time of year
My best friend and I have turned Skyline Drive and the BRP into an annual adventure and I look forward to it more than kids do Christmas. Cincinnati -> Front Royal, VA -> Skyline + BRP to Cherokee, then tool around some of the great roads in TN/NC before heading home. It really doesn't get much better on two wheels.
Did you guys see much in the way of construction this time of year? The last two times we've come through (July both years) there were multiple stretches stripped and quite a few overlooks that were closed.
If you've never done it, you're truly missing a spectacular trip; I highly recommend it. So much to see, pristine pavement, and fairly limited traffic (most times depending on the day).

I need to call on those that currently suffer from MBD and ask if there might be anyone with an F4(i) in their garage or at least at their disposal that would be willing to pull some measurements from the passenger peg assemblies.
I am looking for the measurement between the mounting holes as well as the distance between each mounting hole and the exhaust hanger point on the right side.
Ultimately, I'm looking for an alternative set of passenger peg brackets that will fit a VTEC that come from a bike with a standard mount exhaust. I'm running a side mount can with a custom hanger currently and would like to see if there are options to accommodate a passenger. If anyone knows of any that share measurements with the VTEC that would be awesome!
Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

A friend of mine is just now replacing his non-GT version BT-023 rear on his ST1300 after about 10.5k miles - probably 50% slab. Also have a guy running the GT version on his FJR1300 and he's at about 7500 and it still looks good.
I've got about 5k on my Michelin PR2 and no signs of wearing out soon. This is the first "brand new" tire I've had on the back so my experience is limited with ST-type tires.
YMMV...quite literally on this one.

Glad you're ok and were able to walk away from this one. I can't believe the level of ignorance people exude while driving nowadays, it's really remarkable.
The other big one, is people and their damn pocket dogs. You know the poeple who have to travel with their little dog everywhere they go? The dog runs all over the inside of the car, from seat to seat. I've seen cars all over the road. People leave you damn dogs at home, if they don't know their place in a car.
Funny this should come up...I almost got broadsided by some lady in a minivan because her yappy chihuahua decided to leap from the back seat onto her shoulder...to which she promptly responded by taking both hands off the wheel and her foot off the brake and pulled out into traffic.
Why does this stuff never happen when I'm in my truck?

I wear an Icon Field Armor vest pretty much anytime I'm riding. The only "problem" is that you get virtually no airflow in your jacket (that you can feel anyway - even in perforated leather) with it on...so on overly warm days you sweat hardcore. A friend of a friend was "poked" in the chest by a flailing piece of trim on a cager as he tried to pass on the highway...penetrating his jacket (not to mention scaring the crap out of him). I started wearing my vest regularly after hearing about it.
I got it on sale for like $70 and am very happy with it's performance.
And yes, I've crashed in it...but why you have to bring up old stuff?

Wasn't there a post about this not too long ago that included a dyno run with the change in place or am I losing my mind?

^^ Just means the Q3's are off the charts :)
Ordered a set of Q3's just now from sportbiketrackgear.com - $235 shipped for the set and the $50 rebate this month, can't beat that with two sticks.
