This is a much more complicated question than you may imagine, mainly because I am riding once again with one of my all time favorite riding partners, Jeff and he tends to study maps and finds alternative ways to go, but to answer your question, I generally like to head east through Republic and north from Kettle Falls, there's a side trip across the border just east. Also everyone should know there's a great spaghetti place in downtown Trail, the Collander. Try it for supper as they keep filling your plate and its very tasty food.

I still have to work tomorrow, but let us know what your thinking and perhaps we can hook up somewhere . . . .

You know, Choco...couldn't resist that one, I have heard about that place from another source also. Someday I will try to get there.

  2. LMD Riders

I mentioned earlier I would get back to you guys with the possibility of a group from here riding together.  Reading through a lot of this and it seems people are going various ways which is fine.  Each has their own wants and wishes.

According to Google Maps, it is about 6h 15m from Chilliwack to Nelson.  SO any of you who are interested in meeting in Chilliwack we can ride as a group from the Time Horton's at 45793 Luckakuck Way.  Careful.  There are two Timmies within a block of each other this one is right next to the Best Buy and Superstore.  It is less busy than the one near the Shell.

So. If you are interested, we can use this as a starting point.  Kickstands up at 09:00.  A full tank from Chilliwack should get us to Princeton and we can take it from there.  No one leading the pack, just firing the starting pistol.  Ride your own ride but give or take, we should stay relatively close to each other to help out if any of us runs into difficulties.  Trouble with the law? You are on your own.

This should have us rolling into Nelson 4 - 5 pm.

    Yes Deer!

The funniest thing is this was the beginning of Bow season in Oregon.  Some bow hunters came by to lend us a hand in the bike recovery.  They found the deer, and tagged it.  I always thought eating road kill was just a well used joke. Well, I was sure wrong that way.  But if it were not for them, we would never have gotten that bike out of the deep deep ditch it went into much like films of those Calvary racing their horses down deep river banks in those old black and white dusters.  My last signature stamp has now disclosed meanings

  4. Speaking of noise.  Three of us went out for a ride up the canyon past Boston Bar.  I waited to join them when they arrived in Agassiz.  While waiting there, probably a dozen screaming loud drifter cars drove by over a period of a few minutes.  Talk about noise.

Then out in the canyon, we were fortunate enough to get stuck in the middle of a group of about 10 harleys.  Even with ear protection in, the noise from them was awful.  Then get a bunch of them idiots in a tunnel, well, that was down right defining. I think we will be fine so long as we don't race around like a bunch of teenagers who have OD'd on Spanish fly.

I was probably going to ride up on the german concrete mixer so i will have to stop every 10 mins. Retirement sounds to dam busy! ashame not to take the longer scenic rout

I'm not quite sure just when we return home from our RV trip to Winnipeg so timing for an earlier departure will likely be an issue.  I can stretch the return by one day but July 26 is my anniversary.  If I miss this years, then last years would be my last.

  6. I don't know what the fug happened there but I will try again.  I would like to do the extra day but will have to decline the Duffy Lake Road portion of the trip. If I had not already paid for this trip, I probably would not be going due to other things that have arrived on my scene. Besides, I am arriving back here from Winnipeg only a couple days before this trip so my time is also going to be in demand.

I will still post up for those who want to ride out the Friday.  Jeff.  I am older than you so I guess I am more stubborn or too senile to notice it is a long ride. OH! I forgot.  You now ride a guddam triumph.......

Hi Arman.  Glad to hear the VF is back in the game--though I like your new German freundin's big jugs. ;)

I haven't given much thought to the trip up to Nelson yet.  There are a couple of things pending this summer (visit from out-of-country friend, possible in-town move), that could affect my decision.  If I have to go quickly, I was thinking about joining up with 34468Randy's group in Chilliwack--if they'll have me.  Otherwise, I'll fly solo like last time.  If I can take a couple of extra days, I could be up for a more scenic route.

Oh well.  I guess so.  We can have you tag along.  I will post up meeting place and time a week before hand.

  8. "If you are travelling in excess of 40 km/hr you can be charged for excessive speed with a fine of $368.00 and points or if more then 60 km/hr $483.00 plus points. On top of the fine your car will be seized for 7 days, costing you storage and a tow bill."

Um, I certainly plan on exceeding 40km/h and perhaps even 60. Hopefully Nelson RCMP needs to hire a (better) proofreader.

Good eye. Of course it is meant to say "over"

  9. Just so that those who are not in the know, do know, this seems to be more directed at Harleys with the baffles cut out. But, there are some of our type bikes that are modified to make them louder. That is still illegal and enforceable. The decibel reading has nothing to do with the charge. Section 7A.01 Motor Vehicle Act Regulations covers that. Create Unnecessary noise and that is an offense. Deliberately doing something to your bike to make more noise is unnecessary. Screaming along the roadway maintaining near red line, is not necessary. Much the same as squealing your tires in your Camaro. Same thing.

Just a heads up to everyone. I am not debating this.

  10. Darn. Sorry you can't make it, fearless leader. We may have to resort to shadier characters, such as Superfunk to lead us... or worst, Randy!! ....

Please do let us know if we can do anything.

I just don't know how to take this. Follow me and with the experiences you witness and partake in, your world will never be the same. I have kaleidoscope glasses to counteract the effects of experiences partaken in.

  11. Basically the furthest point possible from the driver is the rule to follow. Bottom of you saddle bags would be about as far as one can go on a bike. Circumstances may dictate that the most inaccessible spot could be a back pack. In my day, we would seize alcohol be believed was being kept for an unlawful purpose. Typically that would be supplying to minors, or consuming in a public place. That is not a charge. It is a seizure and you have the right under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act of BC to make application to get that back. Usually for a case of beer or a bottle of swill, it is not worth the effort. But it is for the scotch I drink.

I seriously doubt that you would run into any difficulty this way even if police were to pull you over for whatever reason. Now of you were slugging it down while you were walking along the street, or carving up the corners, you just might run into some problems. Mine will likely be open unless I go out and buy a bottle especially for this event.

BTW. Any of you who use mix will not be sampling my scotch. A little ice is cool, nothing else. Mix should be used in Five Star Rye.

  12. Everyone paid up? If you are not staying at the hostel, you need to make your arrangements early in Nelson for Hotel rooms. I don't remember which hotel it was, but a group of us prepaid for several rooms a few years ago in Nelson for our Kootenay Ride of 2010. The hotel booked those room out from under us to another group. I swore I would never go to Nelson again because of that but here I am, going anyways. See what the consumption of spirited beverages will do to your soul?

Any scotch snobs in the group?

    Me!

Bring your favorite single malt. I will bring mine. We can sample.

  14. There is the fierce Hoola Hoop Competition,

    20020719-29.jpg

I can only have nightmares about me and my fat ass participating in this one!

Anyone else get their bikes out yet? First ride was Friday morning at -2 celcius. Love that first ride of the season to get the juices flowing. I hope everyone else is getting out soon, too.

You guys put your bikes somewhere for part of the year? Gawd. That's horrible!

  15. I had fears that this was going to be a very much rushed trip for me. But alas. I have withdrawn my application for re-entering the work force and am going to remain retired, re-tyered, inspired and maybe be...just maybe...required at this event. Looking forward to this. Ucktum boogie woogie chicken!

BTW. FOr the life of me, I can't get one of those maps to go into my signature block. Everything I have tried makes the map huge. I have a few other stamps of rides I have done that I would like to add as well but they too are huge.
