  1. The VTEC transition on the 06 and newer is supposedly better than the older 6th Gens but I still found it very annoying and very noticeable on the 2007 that I previously owned. The mods you mention above should help assuming that you are willing to spend the extra money to have the fuel system remapped. I still to this day wonder why Honda ruined a perfectly good engine by adding the VTEC with such little overall benefit.

  2. Go somewhere that sells tools and buy a large socket that is the same diameter as the outside race of the bearing. Then put the bearing in the freezer for a few hours and just before you go to install use a heat gun to heat up the wheel hub which will allow the metal to expand a bit. Place the bearing in the hub and then use the socket and hammer to drive the new bearing in.

  3. Nice overall writeup. I would only add a couple of things. It's always good to warm the bike up a little to warm the oil so it drains easier. I also like to take a sheet of aluminum foil and slid it over the tops of the headers so they don't get oily when you remove the oil filter. I'm not sure I would trust those K&N filters after a couple of horror stories I've heard about them.

  4. So I've been looking for what seems like an eternity for an extra 3rd Gen rear wheel to put on my 07 Anniversary Edition. For the past year I've been checking Ebay almost daily but as soon as one popped up I would bid on it but just couldn't bring myself to spend the $300+ dollars plus shipping they have been typically selling for over the last year. A few days ago on Ebay I found a set of wheels off a 1991 model (both front and rear wheels with tires and brake rotors) listed with a "Buy it Now" for $225. The listing also had a "Make Offer" option and I debated for a while on whether or not to make an offer since the item might have sold using the "Buy it Now" before I got a response from the seller. I rolled the dice anyways and decided not to buy them on the spot and made an offer of $185 which the seller accepted. I was a little wary at first since this was a brand new seller with 0 transactions/feedback but was relieved to find a large box waiting at my front door today when I got home. The wheels are in overall good shape but are pretty scratched up and dirty but I don't really care since they will be getting sandblasted with a new powdercoat finish within a few weeks. The extra front wheel sure will come in handy since I can always keep a new tire mounted and ready to go for my 3rd Gen. The extra rotors are also a huge bonus but I am less than thrilled with the Shinko tires even though they still have some life left in them. Oh well I guess I can't complain for $225 shipped for everything. I am one happy boy!!

  5. The old harness is a real pain the ass to take out so most people just clip the stator and r/r connectors off and run the new harness alongside the old as stated previously. If you look at the pictures posted you will see that the yellow wires that run from the R/R to stator plug are 12 gauge. The factory harness yellow wires are noticeably smaller in diameter. Another way to tell is to follow the positive wire (red) coming off the R/R to the battery. On the upgraded harness this red wire splits off with 1 lead running directly to the battery via a 20amp fuse and the other going straight to the starter relay. The remaining black wire on the harness coming from the R/R is grounded directly to the battery.

  6. I've never understood tinting tail lights - or head lights for that matter. It seems like most people these days are searching for the clear lenses for the rear lights. :lurk:

In most states it is illegal to have the tail lights any color other than red. I searched high and low for a clear light but was unable to find anywhere. The tinting looks better than before but I haven't thrown out the idea of trying to fabricate a custom tail lens using light diffusing paneling.

  7. I'm ok with the way it looks for now. For anyone who is interested in doing the same just note that this is a long process that should be done in multiple steps. It involved sanding the lens down with 400 grit sandpaper and then cleaning with alcohol before blasting with 3 separate but light coats of the tint spray. After the tint dried I wet sanded with 2000 grit before hitting with clear coat 6 or 7 times. The final step was another wet sand with 2000 grit followed by a good polishing with Meguiars ultimate compound. Total time was around 10 hours.

  8. I'm not beating myself up over them. I fricking love em!!

EDIT: You did get the wheels going in my head rollin though Seb. I'll probably smoke the signals down the line to give a more uniform look. The problem is obviously that the tail is red and the turns are clear smoked. Tinting the signals would probably result in more of a black look than dark blood red which the rear has now. I do think they look much better than they did before though. Here are some more pics in my dim lit garage showing them as only running lights as well as with brake applied. Plenty of visibility IMO!

    Rollin.

  9. Well a few months ago I bought some smoked colored turn signals for my 1993 VFR from Thurn Motorsports. I was very pleased with the way they looked but I immediately thought that they made the ugly red tail-light stand out like a sore thumb. I searched high and low for a clear or smoked tail-light to replace it with but had no luck. Since I had an extra lens already available from my old parts bike I thought I'd try my luck at a DIY tint. I ordered some tint spray from Amazon and bought some fine grit sandpaper from the auto parts store and several hours and many sanding and clear coats later you see the final results. I think it came out pretty good. And before you start bashing about brake light visibility I want you to know that these pics are a little deceiving since they were taken in a shaded portion of the driveway. The tint is darker but you can still easily see the lights through the tinting. Opinions?
