  1. If you are doing significant modifications to the bike (AKA track or SF), it saves a ton of space, and 1lb of weight maybe.

A ton of space? Like a few cubic inches in areas where it's completely irrelevant, and no weight savings to speak of

Cleaning up the appearance and creating space to work with is important for streetfighter builds because you don't have body work to hide the clutter; and yes, it saves at least a pound, I forget the exact amount I weighed, not a lot but when trying to lighten a modern track bike there are no big lumps of weight to hack off... it comes off in a lots of small amounts that add up... as Yoshi pointed out.

... and yes, COPs can give a hotter spark. Any time your pushing 60K+ volts through a wire there are voltage losses, longer the wire and higher the temperature the more loss, especially as the wire ages. Is this significant? Depends on the person...

Virtually all modern sport bikes have COPs, don't they?

    Agree with Mr. Yoshi!

But, and this is my opinion, I am quite sure industrial designers have the "can this be improved somehow" genes. They look at one element and see room for improvement. In this case improvement is also an improvement when the Mr. Bossman of -insert your favorite brand here- says, hey, great idea Mr. Designer dude, we saved xxxxx amounts of usd on shipping thanks to your compact, low weight sparkie thingy, AND we now sell more of them as a pure bonus!

I'm NOT saying cop are bad, but I surely did not change many coils before cop came along...

  2. Except the mileage data, do we have some data telling us that there is some kind of up-side to this?

Hotter spark = lower fuel consumption? (At least in the O2 sensor vfr)

    Dyno numbers?

    Coolant temp?

    Anything?

I want, but I need a reason to actually allow my brain to think that Honda did compromise on the spark side of engineering...

  3. Any word on why these kits are discontinued?

I've been thinking about puting a kit on my wish list for in a few years once I get some money behind us in the house.

Dan had to put his family first :( sad for us, awesome for his family. However, he told me he sold it, so lets hope something comes from it.

Anyway, thank you again dan for making my viffer 13 years younger :)

  4. I am always hungry for new education, and rarely say no to a mod with something to show for...

I feel pretty educated by this thread, but i just dont see why i should even consider doing this to my train-wrecked vfr still lying dormant in the barn, or the super-charged one standing on its own two wheels?

Is this what we call a healty persuit of undiscovered HP, or just the first signs of un- treatable boredom?

    Please educate me further :)

  5. :comp13:

This has just made my day. I knew my European map was off a bit, but this is just silly ridiculous power. I thought Steve had the highest power VFR800 locked up with his 175hp run, but you've topped him with this 183hp monster, Kenneth. Do you guys have any ethanol in your gas over there? We're saddled with 10%, which I think might be reducing the power output.

I'm going to post a link to your vid on my site -- very, very nice. Enjoy!

Yo. feel free to put me in the customer showcase department :)

  6. If only there were another 9hp to be found... Then you would have doubled the stock output!

What's really amazing here is we're only pushing about 10psi (without an intercooler) when in general with these superchargers you need ~15psi to double the power.

I'm almost tempted to turn up some bigger crank pulleys and see if we can crack 200whp...

Would the belt fit if a bigger crank pulley should ever be made? :) :) :)

Anyway, i was thinking , when in the future i am going to rebuild the vfr i have laying around, to look into the possibilities of lower rotating weight , cams, other injectors and maybe the "stage 2" with water injection... Anything on the drawing board Dan? ;)

We do not have anything added or taken out of our fuel. if you want to buy e85 (bioethanol/fuel mix) i guess one would have to wait some time as it is on its way as far as i know... but i really cant se why i should switch to that...

On the dyno i ran shell v-power 99 octane ron, but i fill her with unleaded 95 ron for the most part. No additives of any kind cause there has never been signs of detonation, and no power gain, at least not noticeable.

When mentioned, what do you think about this Dan : e3 spark plugs

Is this just long life sparkies or could there be something to it?

What about the "permagap" ngk (if they where made with the vfr thread size) Any toughts?

  7. Now, here is the evidence...

Red line = pre charger install.

Green line = A&A Perf. european charger map.

    Blue line = Custom map.

I had the dyno recorded, here are my compilation of the goodies

  8. After trying different maps, and having Dan custom make 2 maps via e-mail, i finally found the time to run a dyno for some realy spot on adjustments...

The numbers went from 156.6 -> 183.2... pretty ok one should say :)

I dont have to say that the gained ponies does kick...

    Let the summer begin :)
