Bad news on a couple of fronts. After this last production run, our fourth run actually, the pipe builder handed off the welding jigs to sfdownhill, essentially ending our production runs with him. Unfortunately he and I never got to discuss what we wanted to do with them.
Here’s the really sad part, sfdownhill had a life ending accident this past week, he was was pronounced deceased a few days ago. Another unfortunate issue, I never got to meet the builder, I only knew him as Wade and sfdownhill did all the interfacing with him, including the only one of us to visit his shop, so I have no way of reaching him directly.
I am still in shock about what happened, let alone still in the dark about what’s going to happen with all of his stuff, all his equipment, motorcycles and even those welding jigs. He and I had plans to build up another 5 Gen using a set of headers from this last run and I don’t even know where that bike is at the moment.
In all honesty, that is not my priority right now, mourning the loss of my friend and hopefully meeting with his family soon is. Here is a link to my post announcing this tragic loss.
Just WOW! This is SAD news!

Of course, no bike does. But, that doesn't mean I don't like having it.
Touring bikes need a center stand. 😉- 1

I could definitely use the spacer trick but yeah, that really only works at home. I do have a SSSA rear stand to use in the shop, so I'll give some thought to losing the centerstand and more.
This bike does NOT need a center stand. -
14000 members?
We charge everyone 50 cent per year....
Management of this site can't be that difficult?
It seems to me we could find an IT Guy/ VFR lover who would/could take over the site?

Has any thought been put into transferring this management of this website to someone else?
I don't think a small membership fee would be too much to ask to properly fund the cost.

Didn't know there was a map created for the 8th gen. Which PC do you use?
Yes, there was one created for the 8G.
The DynoJet Power Commander PCV.
You should still be able to get the tune for a small upcharge.

Absolutely-using the map done at Attack Performance the increase in thrust was significant especially at higher rpms.
I do have the map from Attack.. FYI...

I just posted in both VFR 800 Owners and VFRWORLD FB groups a little advertisement mentioning that we need just a few more orders to move forward with the custom group buy.
Sorry guys, I may have to bow out of this buy. I was going to buy an extra, just in case, but I plan on having my 8G for 27 years, just like I had my 3G that I bought new. 😉
Besides, I'm trying to build a house and my 18 year old truck may not be worth fixing anymore?. UGH! Putting a grand on the shelf probably wouldn't be prudent at this juncture. 😉

So I was thrilled by the power my 8G has now after the header install, How about you? Was the power increase acceptable/delectable to you? 😉 Curious if I'm just being biased because I spent the money? I didn't get any before/after dino runs, but the seat of the pants dino showed a noticeable improvement in passing power, -
I was on the list.... but I already have one installed in my 8G. I was thinking of buying another one? But honestly, after further review, if something were to happen to my beloved 8G, I probably would be done with VFR's? I can only stand to buy new motorcycles, nothing used.
If something happened to my VFR? I'd have to consider a Gold Wing? or if I stay with a sport bike, maybe one of those BMW XR1000's?
I can't believe there isn't a lot of people lining up to get their hands on a custom header for a VFR? Pricey? Yes, but it makes the VFR sooo much better...
How far are we away from the minimum?

I had an exhaust shop expand my Delkevic pipe to match the VFRD header. I gave them $20, it took them five seconds and they didn't want anything for it. It's way easier for them than any of the home-expanders. The one I picked up gave up before the Delkevic pipe did.
I had a muffler shop try to expand my connector pipe and they split it. I ended up having a welder guy remove the center stand stop bump, and at the same time, fix the crack in my connector pipe the muffler shop guy created when trying to expand the diameter. The expansion of the pipe has to be done by someone skilled and someone not in a rush. 😉
See video below for my end result, you can see my welder guys handy work. I was super pleased!
Nice to hear you found a competent muffler shop guy 😉

I don't know. I think the last round was around $1700.
I paid $830, and the option for passivation is $90. 7.75% CA tax, not including shipping. (8G)

Thanks, that's very helpful info. I've had my VFR for a couple of years now, and just swapped to a lithium battery and a Delkevic muffler -- amazed at how much better the bike feels/sounds from that alone. I will have to up my wrenching skills to do the headers, but it's worth it to get the parts just to be able to do the upgrade in the future. How difficult of an install was it?
It's not that particularly difficult, but can be tricky and patience is a must. (Four hands is best for when positioning the headers.)
First thing to remember, removing the center stand bolt is a left hand thread, so don't break a bolt. (LOL! I've heard of many that have broke center stand bolt.) I made my install a little more complicated by ceramic coating the headers, which made the install tricky because you don't want to scratch the ceramic coating. BTW, the ceramic coating will help with heat reduction on the stock brake lines. I'm still a fan of swapping the brake lines for SS braided lines, because it does improve braking.
Other things to think about, the exhaust gaskets are a copper crush gasket an they are tricky to install properly, so have a few extra gaskets on hand, during the install so you don't delay install.

Another option is to heat-wrap the headers if you *really* hate working with dot4... but then you miss out on the shiney bits....
I am an Li believer. Save a cool 7lbs without changing your diet? Yes please!
Swapping the brake lines is not that big of a job? Heat wrapping the headers would be visible and would look tacky for sure. IMHO. Also, ceramic coating the headers will reduce heat from the header by ~40%.
If your plan is do a heat shield wrap, then wrapping the stock rubber brakes lines in the better option and it won't be visible?
I've heard of a guy modifying the stock heat shield to make the clearance necessary and allow it to be reinstalled.

I too am most definitely interested in buying a set for my 8th gen. The results posted look incredible - definitely worth it for -10lbs +~8hp. I'm still reading through the thread, are these headers compatible with the centerstand?
Thanks!
Yes, but you have to remove the center stand to do the install. The headers do make a big difference in combination with the tune. There is an issue with having to remove a part of the heat shielding and having to protect the rubber stock brake lines. The best solution is to upgrade the stock brake lines to steel braided vs adding heat shielding to the stock rubber lines.

When I did mine, it was daunting because I didn't know what to take off? But now that I've done it once, I can tell you... dissemble the entire rear section... take lots of pics and videos.
You'll find out that Honda did a lot of smart things..
I think the biggest pain was making sure YOU NEVER drop a bolt!!!
AND VERY IMPORTANT.. .inside the rear swing arm you'll see a square hole about 2" x 2" YOU HAVE TO TAPE that hole up so anything you do drop doesn't go inside. Ask me how I know?LOL!! Fortunately, I had a flexible magnet with a light and the bolt was magnetic... But the bolt ricocheted and went right into that hole and was inside the hollow swing arm LOL!! I was delayed by about 15 mins, but it could have been a lot worse.
