I made a regulator rectifier using a electrical schematic that was stated to be designed by bill gates for a friend. It has adjustable voltage and maintains the voltage within .2 volts. I used a 80 amp wind turbine rectifier ( from ebay ) The Rectifier changes ac current to dc current and placed the silicon controlled rectifiers (SCR ) that ground out each field winding as needed to control current output to from the field windings ,separate in their own unit so as to dissipate heat and the control ( regulator part) in its own unit also. The idea is is get rid of as much heat as possible. I used 110 volt elect plug prongs to plug into my wiring harness and once the connectors were in place i used 5 min JB Weld to fashion it into a connector.
