Valve Check!

About a week ago I pulled the valve covers off, and the '00 has been sitting naked with the internals exposed just waiting for me to get a block of time to slip the feeler gauges in and check the valves.

Well, after a bit of futzing around we have results (I took my time checking and rechecking):

Valve Clearances (measurements in inches)

Valve Clearances at 24k miles

All within spec!

I put the rear cylinder cover back on, have yet to do the front. Maybe this weekend she'll be all back together (finish up the valve covers and start the forks!)

That's funny. I'm in the exact same position as you right now. Pulled my valve covers off last weekend and all were within spec, but one of the #1 cylinder intake valves was questionable. It was a very very tight 0.05". I don't think I have the motivation to replace the shim though, so I'm trying to convince myself that since the feeler gauge went it, I must be fine... Anyway, the bike is sitting naked and exposed right now while I wait for new valve cover gaskets to arrive (which were much more expensive than expected). Anyway, the part that worries me the most is actually putting the airbox back on. I remember that being an extreme PITA the last time I had to do it. I hope I can remember where to hook all the hoses up to and how to route them. :P

Masking tape and a sharpie are your friends!

Every single hose is marked. Makes putting it back together a little easier!
