  1. Yes, it was the round black rocker switch that gave me problems. You can carefully pry the rocker out of the main body. As I remember, there is a spring or two inside that you want to be careful with. The metal switch, while ugly, works great when you add a water proof condom to it. S-D-420479-1_med.jpg

Where might one find this swithc set up? Looks like the answer to me! Any part mumbers would be most helpful!

  2. Once the gps routes are sorted, I will distribute them via PM on a per-request basis.

I was going to wash my bike, but it's going to rain for a few days so I think I'll just leave her outside for a bit...

Seb, I would like to get the route files when you get them... .gdb for Garmin preferred but will take what's available & do my best to convert. Unless someone else can do so easily & send it to me...

And today's weather reminded me of the torrential downpours Jack, Joe & I rode out to this ride in last fall! Hoping that this year it's a drier ride out!

  3. I'm still trying to work out a few kinks to be able to make it this year. Is it okay if I'm a last minute addition?

    Pat,

We're really hoping it works out and you can join us! Joe & I will gladly share our room... I don't think they have rooms with 3 beds but they did say they had "air bed" avail if we needed... that is unless Joe doesn't mind you spoonin' with him... then in that case you won't need the "air bed"! Your call! :laughing6-hehe:

And ya, what's with the Canadian connection?

Any word from Poncho, Tumbles & crew or DDO-VFR? It just won't be the same, eh?

  4. the groups I ride with can't pass a semi on a back road, so they just lumber along with that annoyingly loud exhaust ... did I mention they pull over every 30 minutes to wait up for the stragglers... (on one 6 hour ride, we averaged less than 20 mph when adding time in the saddle and dividing by distance)... that's when I decided to get the VFR and see about finding other riding groups ... I'm hoping this group might save me.

Steve, I think you've been saved!

This is a great group to ride with but do remember that NO ONE needs to "keep up". We're all about riding within our limits. No one here will ever bust you for not keeping up... I feel I'm a decent rider, no track experience but pretty comfy in the twisties. There are MANY guys (and probably gals!) here that can ride circles around me but I have never felt any pressure to "keep up". I know where my limits are and remember every time I ride that I need to go home safely.

I'm sure you will be quite happy riding with VFRD!

  5. If I can figure out how to make the gps files, you're welcome to them... unless you want to volunteer to create them? :491:

Seb, If you can get the routes mapped I'd really like to have them so I can load my Zumo...unfortunately I am technically challenged and have to rely on others to do the actual mapping... unless you don't mind unexpected "detours" thru the woods sans roads & trails!

  6. I'm good to go... reservation confirmed. Joe Bone & I plan to leave central Mass at noonish and arrive later Friday afternoon. :cheerleader: Anyone interested in joining us for the ride let me know...

  7. Does anyone know if these are still produced? If not, does anyone know of any alternatives?

Yes, but I'm so far behind that I'm starting to be able to see my own a$$

    Nvoges,

Get your name on Radar's waiting list. It's worth the wait! I was one of the lucky ones who waited. These sliders are sweet! Just finished installing mine. Install couldn't be easier. Radar is da man!

Radar had a set with red annodixed posts and I wasn't sure I wanted red posts that might not match the R157 Red but as you can see below, it blends VERY nicely. If I had a choice now I wouldn't want the clear annodized!

Thanks Radar! Now to make sure I never need them!

    gallery_9056_4462_348550.jpg

Radar's Sliders Black with Red base Was on the fence about the red base but after I installed these pieces of work that Radar builds I am PSYCHED! How sweet do they look!

  8. I did a similar install, but the button went under the windshield pillar....most people don't even see it. I don't worry about having my garage door opener on there because if they are in the garage with my bike, they can already get the door open. If they steal my bike, they have to bring it home to open the door.

I was thinking about hiding it there too but figured it was easier to install & reach where I put it.

And I said the same thing. If they can use the switch to get out it's already too late! They've got the bike! But I never thought about the fact they have to bring it back to use it! :fing02:

  9. I spent $28 for a new remote that is the smallest IntelliRemote Genie makes. Fits on a key chain quite nicely and even comes with a LED flash light. I snug it in my tank bag or a side pants pocket.

Still, that is a nice install job. I am just to paranoid to attack a garage door opener to my bike. wink.gif

Hey, that's why you own your bike & I own mine... if it works for you, great. I just know that I'll never have to worry about not having my remote with me, losing it or even have to come to a stop before I pull into the garage. :fing02:

And there's plenty of room so once it's covered who cares how big it is! I actually used that big remote because it was so big. Now I can go buy a smaller 2 button remote to keep in my Camaro. :goofy:

There's a button you can push for that as well, she knows where it is.

    Kel,

Yes she does! And she guards it like the Crown Jewels!

  10. Nice work. I suppose you could get a smaller transmitter as well,

but if that's the one you have, it works. :goofy:

My wife trained herself to most of the time hit the button inside the house when she hears me returning to base. :wheel:

    VFR4Lee,

I had the spare remote & there was more than enough room so I said to myself "why spend another $35."

And I tried to train my wife to do that but somewhere I musta gone wrong... I think she hears me coming & locks the doors!

Thanks for the compliments everyone... I thought it was a great idea and am very happy with the results.

  11. I know I'm being lazy, but when I leave the house or return from a ride, I have to dismount, walk to the keypad, pull my gloves off, punch in my code, return to the bike, and drive it into the garage or out the driveway. I tried carrying a remote in my pocket but still had to pull my gloves & fumble for it. I was always worried I'd lose it as well.

Well today while waiting for another pending 12" of snow to start falling I decided to make a mod that I've been wanting to do since I got my bike. A remote door opener button.

    Step 1:

Locate new switch location & remove right side fairings.

    Step 2:

I picked up a RadioShack pushbutton switch #275-644 for $2.69 right off the shelf.

    switch.JPG

    Step 3:

I carefully drilled a 1/2" hole & mounted the new switch to the inner fairing piece.

    Opener Switch.jpg

    Step 4:

I had a spare remote control so I pryed it open to see if I could easily determine the circuit that gets connected when I push the button. Tho pretty small, it was pretty clear to my untrained eye which 2 posts I needed to tie into. I soldered some bellwire to the posts, notched the case for the new wires and snapped the cover back together. It looked like new except for the new wires protruding.

A little velcro (& a zip-tie for extra measure) to secure it in place and then soldered the switch to the other ends.

    Wired Switch.jpg

I got the fairings mounted and within 30 minutes I had one of the least expensive yet handiest farkles I've done to my VFR! :goofy:

Now for this darn snow to melt & roads to clear... :wheel:

  12. I think I am going to take the $23 gamble and be 6th gen guinea pig #3

I will let you know how it goes

Anxious to hear how it goes... my 6th gen runs warm in the 5-30 mph speeds... I'm guessing a fan working WITH the natural wind direction would be much more effcient than trying to fight it as Honda designed it... but then again, I'm no engineer!
