  1. I changed the engine and diff oil and took some of the slack out of the throttle and my 5 speed vfr seems to be going OK,jerkyness (if there is such a word)gone a lot, haven't tried 6th,the point of changing the oil was to get any metal out,why add more?Plenty fast enough for me with 5,will keep it for now, hopefully no  more gears will go.

That's terrible.  Same thing happened recently to a friend with a used Subaru he bought.  Endless problems and the guy who sold it knew about it but didn't disclose them.   If you end up parting it  out, I'd buy that hugger off of you if it's the OEM version.

it's r&g hugger, but it's cracked around it's mounting point,so wouldn't sell it cause I'm more honest than the person I bought this bike off.

  3. glad you walked away and saved yourself the stress this caused. I believe the  dct ones are OK,don't hold me to that though, just sold my vtr1000 today, going to change the oil this week to get possible metal out of the oil,and then see how long it lasts has a 5 speed. If not it will go has a spares bike then i will get a 800fi instead. Im glad you got to be cautious on your viewing, hope my situation may of helped.

  4. bananaoram, didn't do it straight away in 6th but when eased the throttle off then re accelerated it was like bike was shuddering and definitely not making healthy mechanical noises.

Hi, sorry to hear about that but this all sounds very familiar!! It wasn't purchased in Solihull by any chance?

yes it was,did you know the bike/ owner?dis you manage to get a farther test ride than me and you found out for yourself.

  6. Swimmer,I messaged him to ask if he knew about it but got no response,I then messaged him again to ask if he knew it leaked fuel to which I further had no reply,so i diplomatically (words could of been a lot worse) messaged I hope karma repays him soon.

  7. Hi,

bought this 2010 model at the weekend, never had a 1200,had loads of 750/800's most high mileage 60k+ on one 800,all been totally reliable no problems whatsoever.

So when I saw this,I did no research, its a vfr what could go wrong.Unfortunatly I forgot I was dealing with a human being, one which obviously wasnt going to admit that 6th is shot,I did test ride it but it hardly had any fuel, wasn't taxed or insured, and it was in a built up area.Almost took it back put it on his drive and torched it,in 30 +years this is the 1st bike have bought which is a dud.

I'm going to keep it cause it's worth nothing spares or repair and I'm not dishonest, wouldn't pass it on,going to change the oil and filter and keep using it in 5th and see how long it lasts.

    Sean
