  1. sa1713,

I have not seen it discussed on this thread, and don't know if it is a possibility w/ the VFR, but have you given any thought to lightening the flyweel? Maybe lightening and re-balancing the cam drive gears? It would allow the motor to spin up much quicker/easier :laughing6-hehe:

  2. The article you posted explains the advantages of other types of front ends really well. I think that allowing prototype chassis w/ production motors at the GP level will do heaps for getting something other than forks onto motorcycles. As my Mech Engineering friend says "Telescoping forks are just an accident of history."

That being said, I'm waiting for the RedMarque 5th Gen Hossack Kit :D Have you allowed room in your frame design for a Torocharger? :laughing6-hehe:

  3. Dave Dodge and MegaCycle are still in the cam business.

Dave Dodge to the rescue :laughing6-hehe:

I spoke to him this morning and he said he could do some cam work. He finished a 5th gen last year with very good results. That job included a 1 over bore and some other stuff...

I've linked up with my EBD who will contact Dave direct and they'll do their engineering stuff.

    Great call Seb. Thank you.

And he gets a hot cam?! :pissed:

This thing is going to be a beast when its done! Can't wait to see the final product!

  4. I am now more convinced than ever that Larry's primary job on this board is to tittilate and frustrate those of us who don't have the tools and (far more importantly) the skills to build these sweet, lightweight race bits.

Hey Larry, I have a 5th gen that will be stuck in Cali for a bit when I move to NYC. What if I parked it in your garage as a test bed for your modifications. You can sell what you've designed to the hungry folks here at VFRD, and I'll, uh, beta test the hell out of the proto-types, yeah, thats it, beta test... :D

    Freakin sweet as always dude!

  5. I'm checking with the EBD to see if the cams can be worked as well.

On another note regarding the PC V for my 98 non Cali model. Coderighter installed a PC V on his 6th gen and also has the Autotune. He has mapped by gear/speed, temp, and has a vacuum switch for turning the Autotune off/on during accel and decel.

We've discovered that the 5th gen wire harness matches along years so I can tap into it for the map by gear/speed and engine temp without issue. The vacuum switch was another story. Coderighter removed his EVAP canister and solenoid and used the vacuum hose to tap into the four vacuum hoses connected to the injectors. On my bike, no such thing, the four hoses die at the airbox and never join each other. So, I'll find a 4 into 1 connector, add a length of hose and drop a vacuum switch onto that. This will solve my vacuum source hunt.

Many thanks to Coderighter for diagnosing my situation.

    More as I get it.

I have 4 vac hoses out back of my airbox, runs the starter valve (or at least thats where I hook up to balance the starter valve). I do have a Cali bike tho, so YMMV.

  6. F4/F4i are both 43mm tubes and the 5th gen uses 41mm tubes so no.

If your willing to De-Link the brakes then you can just slap a full set of F4/F4i forks on the bike and have fully adjustable forks. The F4/F4i fork lowers do nothing for you!

    D*mn. I suspected as such. d*mn...

  7. So I know from this thread that F3 guts drop into 5gen tubes, and F4 guts drop into 6gen tubes, but will F4i guts drop into a 5th gen? I have the opportunity to get a set of cartridges off a smashed up f4i at my local junker smile.gif

Also, would getting the lowers off the F4 do me any good, or just cause me to have to swap out the brakes? The forks themselves are toast, but the lowers seem ok...

  8. Installing a 6th gen cooler will add an extra row of capacity! :fing02:

And, in the conventional position, an extra row for oil to sit & collect in?

HAHAHAHA Seb, sometimes you just pull the words right from me.

Bailey, thanks for the tip, seriously, I didn't know they upgraded the coolers on the Vtecs.

But is getting more cooling out of the cooler simply a matter of flipping it 180 degrees?

  9. So am I correct in believing that simply flipping the oil cooler over will up its function and help keep the engine a few ticks cooler? Anything I can do to keep that motor turning for a bajillion more miles :fing02:

I've always wanted to go through a 5th gen motor the way you are! so sweet!!

  10. Luigi, I hope you're feeling better! This bike brings a tear to my eye, how you say, bellisimo?

You should post up the measurements of that subframe when you're finished (and able) It looks ideal!

  11. Looks great and you will be able to push fag Harleys out of your way with the headlight bracket battering ram! smile.gif

On colour - I think the RC45 doesn't take a solid colour scheme quite as well as a VFR... Castrol Honda WSB colours always looked good

Or you could probably find a Suzuka 8-Hour colour scheme that presses your buttons (I reckon most of the RC45s that ever raced were raced at Suzuka):

Especially if you could track down that twin exhaust can setup!

Also, scraping pegs in front of a large group of fag harleys is a great way to make them poo themselves :goofy:

  12. For straight slabbing, Those puppies look tasty, w/out losing any road feel (You need it on the CA freeways :comp13: ).

I like my helis because they are in-between, MUCH more relaxed position than stock, but leaned forward just a bit for a nice sporty feel.

In Asia they use the 'Ceptors for police duty and the bars those guys have look fricken sweet! Wish I coulda found a used pair while I was over there :fing02:

And they get adjustable windscreens too!

  13. This is Interesting, Wanna make several adapters ?

I also have a set of '04-'07 CBR1000RR Vortex rearsets sitting in my closet, with a 600RR rear master cylinder. I need to have new mounting plates machined to slap them on, which is also on the "to do" list...

Yeah, what he said! How much up and back will this move the pegs?
