  1. I retired from conti-general tire I pay $45 for the above tires :fing02: ,and the wheel weights on the rear tire question is the red dot located at the valve stem? That is where it should be.I have seen several michelin rears that have had the same.

But about the generals, Falken tires are a better performance tire.

  2. Getting good data about tires is a crap shout at best.what really gets me is that a PR2 cost $180 rear and I can buy a full set of tires for my miata at the exact cost. The cost seems a bit out of whack.

There should be a better way to judge tires in the real world, other then some guy says that THEY STICK LIKE GLUE AND WEAR LIKE STEEL

If someone would like to pay me to test tires pm me

  3. Guys,

These tires may be just fine, the price is fine, and if you are on a down turn or want to impress your wife with a meal that is fine too.....One poster remarked the technology was about 10 years out of date...nah its more like 20....Back in the day of the FZR400

a few of you may remember if not I understand Yokohama came out with these new fangled whiz bang tires that the mechanic /racer in a dealership I was doing parts in loved them....so we kept him a good supply......he liked them did fairly well on them, and the folks that were importing them had an exclusive on them coming into the USA....Yokohama didn't like that but contracts being what they are specially if its iron clad....well the tires went away but not Yokohoma...Over the years they did many an OEM tire for the big four...but those racing types were tied up in legalise til the patents ran out, in enters who ever bought them out...was it Nang Kang or Cheng Shin...???? I don't know or remember or care You can find their tires in the back of the JC whitney cataloge.....Free thought ,choice , where to spend your money is almost a right...I defend not nor do discredit the people making these tires today...If you want to run them and you like them...aint life grand......

Every tire plant is different some have new tech. some don't when the conti plant I worked at was closed you should have seen some of the old Shit they sold to third world countries. They shipped most of the old tech. to plants in Mexico.

Every tire manufacture does the same better check where your tire comes from, the difference between state of the art tire machines and old trash is huge,if you could have seen the difference like I have you wouldn't believe how much difference there is.

Since no one has been to a Shinko plant who knows, buy a michelin from China, and hope they guy that worked in a rice patch last week does a good job.

  4. When I change my tires, I can't ever remember the mileage I had on them, so I started writing the mileage on the inside of the tire(usually the rear) with a white paint marker pen so when I take the old off I have a exact number to work with, and my brain has one less this to keep track of ...anyone else do this too??

I prefer using an excel spreadsheet where I keep all my maintenance info updated. I just type in the mileage I have on the clock in the appropriate filed, and it tells me what inspection / maintenance operation is due. That's how I keep track of my tire mileage as well.

Back to topic - I'm curious to see what the Shinko experiment will return. I just invested 352 CAN$ (and it was a pretty good deal) on a set of PR2, so I'm looking forward to hear how much tire you will get for such a low price. Keep us posted.

Microsoft office 2007 has a spread sheet for maintenance quite handy I track all vehicle costs.

  5. Yes, Thx..... It's the coloured tape I'm interested in..... I'd like to see some on "Silver" wheels..... If someone has done this, or if it can be photoshopped.... I'd like to see some different colours......... Thx..

    PINK might work with silver

  6. Get on em and ride em like you stole em. New tires aren't made like they were 20 years ago, no slickness off the molds like the early years. If you warm em up the same way you always do before riding aggressively then you're good to go.

    Furthermore.........

My guess as to these experts who are crashing on new tires is they either aren't warming them up or they're using the tires as a excuse for lack of skill or brain fade. We all make mistakes, thats my guess.

Once they are warm, they are good to go.

I put the new bridestone rear on yesterday morning and decided a test ride to Asheville NC would give me an idea on how this tire would match up to the Michelin PP2ct's.The grip level in the dry is a little bite better, especially at the edge due to the fact there is no groves in the tread like the michelin. The fact your on a soild patch of rubber on the edge is cool.

The reason for the review is the wet grip is what set this tire apart from the PP2ct.It rained in Asheville on the return home I started on Hwy.151 which is like the Gap many tight swtich backs, then the blue ridge parkway high speed turns finally Hwy. 276 to Brevard.

With the lack of many groves what got me is was the grip in the wet.The michelin was not even close to the feel of the bridestone what a surprise!!!

Time will tell as far as wear but @130 rear and 95 front I'm sold. These prices are low,(my guess)is due to it's a intro as a new tire and marketing to get people try them out.If they last as well as the PP then it's a heck of cheaper then 180 for a PR2.

Like they say rubber is cheaper then plaster. :fing02:

    Regards,

    Mike

  8. So I run down to my local MC dealership to pick up new BT-016 bridgestone rear tire, and guess what they have a huge display of?Michelin PR2 @ $171(180*55*17) and they were all made in Thailand go figure, the parts guys laugh saying they think they suck.At least someone else sees it as a step down.

  9. I have to throw my $0.02 in here and echo the other comments, put Pilot Road 2's on my wife's VFR a couple of weeks ago (had the original Metzlers on previously) and WOW, huge difference.

Obviously new tires are always going to feel better than shagged OEM's, but we're both very impressed with the PR2's.

I put new BT-016's on my R1 and the PR2 on the VFR felt just as agile if not better than my R1. With the new PR2's like it weighs ~50 lbs less, quick transitions, faster braking, and tons of grip!

Best $350 Canadian (from Pete's Superbike) ever spent!

Bt-016 ordered and on the way,Michelins are a good tire, just want to try other interests when it comes to tires.

  10. 26 2009, 04:00 PM']True but it's like we use to say @ conti. tire if it is black and holds air it"s a TIRE

Can't say I agree w/ that at all...

My Dennis Kirk rear PR2 says "Made in Spain", I'll take a pic tomorrow if I remember.

By the way, did you get a chance to send that spanner wrench out?

I have a set here at home PR2's (made in spain)..... I got them less than a month ago from Dennis Kirk.

New shipment that are from Thailand, that what they told me,and I fill that if they had a Euro made tire they would have sent it to me.The spanner being sent has not been a high priority, but will get done at some point.I will be going to the BT-016 tires since I can buy them at my local dealership for $130 (rear)

    Regards,

    Mike

  11. I don't know how you ride, or how Shinko's compare. I'm Just focusing on ("The 05 shinko uses a mold from Michelin").

My Mother Has a cake mold, but she can put the ingredients for a German chocolate cake in it, or she can put the ingredients for a lemon cake in it.................... Of course, I'll eat both

True but it's like we use to say @ conti. tire if it is black and holds air it"s a TIRE

Update going with BT-016 $130 local dealership

  12. I'm over 8,000 on my PR2's, with most of that in the twisties. I'm probably looking at getting at least another 2-3K out of them before I hit the wear bars. That's all riding hard right to the edge all the time on them. I've been nothing but pleased. My friend just went through 2 sets of PP's on his ZX10R while I'm still on this set of PR's, and we ride at the same pace. That little direction arrow on the outside of the tire didn't last long though LOL.

That zixxer will probably go through ANY 2 tires before you go through 1! :goofy:

I have decided to let Michelin go,Hello Shinko if I'm going to have a third world tire might as well pay $82 front,$115 rear. The 05 shinko uses a mold from Michelin so with the cost savings the ($180 Michelin rear)I'll be ahead of the game.

I change my own tires so thats not a issue.

http://www.shinkotireusa.com/about.php A little bit about Shinko

  13. There all in Thailand from Dennis Kirk it goes back first thing AM.I'll run up the road a buy a PP for $134That's it for PPR2's

    Pete's Superbike...rear tires...145USD for PR2, 115USD for Bridgestone BT021, 142USD for Roadsmarts.

For +11$ PR2's are probably worth it...

Just picked up a set...Spanish ones... :goofy:

    BI

Sent them back, and called the motorcycle superstore they are the same price $172.They also stated they are made in Spain or France.

  14. There all in Thailand from Dennis Kirk it goes back first thing AM.I'll run up the road a buy a PP for $134That's it for PPR2's

Did you even try riding on them? :comp13:

I don't give a damn if they come from Mars, because they are the best tires I ever put on my VFR so far!

I don't think that because it came from Thailand it's automatically bad.

    Beck

    95 VFR

There is a difference the manufacturing process in Thailand is not as good,on charlotte sports bike forum the dirt trackers have had several issues with that country's tires i.e. short tread life so way the heck would I pay 172 when I could get a PP for 134.That may I fact last as long considering the point of process.

Besides if michelin wants to go to third world countries that there right but since I'd be buying a sub par tire might just as well get a Sinko tire a pay a lot less.

Point taken, it would be interesting to find out if anyone does have problems with the Thai made tires, I guess you could not be blamed for your releuctance with them if you did hear of some problems with other Michelin tires from there. You'd think that Michelin would be more careful about world-wide production QC, specially on these expensive tires though.

BTW, I do remember that mine came from Spain as Timmy's did, so I cannot really give an accurate opinion on this, I guess.

That's really my point I DO NOT want to be the test pilot @ 172

  16. Well I get the tire from Dennis kirk and SOB it's made in Thailand.I call customer service and they are trying to find one made in spain or france.Dam I'm so pissed I do not want a third world tire on the back of MY bike period!!!!Looks like PP will go on if they can not find one. :comp13:

  17. A big thanks to all,I'll be going with the road 2 since several of you hit the 6K mark.I have the PP2ct on the rear now and like I said it has 4K on it.Time to order the PPR2.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  18. You should be able to find PR2's online for less than the cost of Pilot Powers.

The best price of the PP=$135

    " " " " road2=$169

If anyone knows of a less expensive price let me know.

  19. Since several members have logged large numbers on this tire, what can one expect on the life of the tire.I get about 4K out of the PP I would think that 6K from the road two what one should expect?

As of today the difference in price between the above is $30 so does it make sense?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  20. I have spent the last 20 years working for conti tire and one thing I can tell you is there is a big difference in the tire manufactures. The tire machines that put the components i.e. tread, sidewall ect. really effect the end result. The mixing process differ and Michelin has the best, the bottom line when you buy a Michelin it's a more consistent period.

In a car tire it might pay to opt for an off brand but a MC you only have two, when you factor the cost of a off it's worth some extra dollars. The hospital bill along would buy a life time of tires.

    Regards,

    Mike

    So I shouldn't buy Conti's anymore?

I don't like I said one accident on the bike can add up real fast, cars tires what the heck I run conti.I get them for around $45 per tire as a retired employee.
