Welcome back Ty! Nice looking bike. Hope it is an easy refurb. I'm still riding my '01 in addition to numerous other bikes, although right now I am in the process of replacing the VFR thermostat (again).

I needed another project like I needed a hole in the head, but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to own another 6th gen. So I did a thing this past weekend and bought a non-runner from a member of VFRd that was posted for sale a few hours from me. Anyway, I'm excited to potentially (assuming I get it running) be back on a VFR. I had originally sold my '02 VFR that I had put 52,000 miles on to get into sportier MCs. After stints on a Buell 1125R and Triumph Daytona 675 and three spinal fusions in my neck, I could no longer ride sport bikes for long stints ( I SPORT-toured on both of those bikes). So the Daytona was sold in favor of a Triumph Tiger 1050, my current ride, which I really like except for the poor wind management. The VFR I purchased has very low miles. The tank has some rust in it that will need to be addressed but other than that, I think it will just be things like new tires and a refresh of fluids to get her back on the road. I'll most likely start a refurb thread here once I get into it.

Don't forget momma and trains and prison.

I think you just did... I don't own a truck Nor a CB radio My girlfriend didn't leave me Cause I don't have one Ok, you're doing great. Now we need something about the dog you don't own and the Honky-Tonk you don't have in your town.

Hi BLS , Yes thanks I have noticed that hole as I was wondering how that stuff got in… cleaning it at each service is definitely on my list now👍
-
Hey thanks Jim. It's a (upright) Moto2 bike compared to the RC-51 superbike. Lots of fun and easy to move around the garage!

😁 I don't own a truck. Nor a CB radio. My girlfriend didn't leave me, cause I'm married and don't have one. I'd be seriously challenged to come up with lyrics.

You'll notice there is a hole in the bottom of the cast swingarm that will allow an air hose to blow out the gravel... I have to do this step every time I service a customers RC30 RC45...

Nice bike, glad you are enjoying it!

Any pictures and how much you looking at? -
Yes sir! 😄After a good clean I used copper grease on the hub and bearing grease on the needle bearing and reassembled everything after cleaning the brake calliper and the disk and now I can tension the chain with that crank spanner no problem. That bike only has 25000 miles so not great maintenance prior… Anyway happy that’s done! My previous bike was a Moto Guzzi V7 with a shaft drive so not used to having chain and sprockets to take care of!
-
i guess we've entered the "throwing crap at the wall and seeing what sticks" phase of sorting out my fueling woes.... one of these things is not like the other!
-
That's pretty chunky! Mine was not personally that gritty on the inside (62k miles), but well done on tearing it all down! Now that you're in there, it may behoove you to re-grease everything that looks thirsty!

Great name for a trucker country song...

Hi all, I am new here but just wanted to share my experience with the2016 Vfr800 f tensioner. My chain was a bit slack on my recently bought Vfr so decided to turn the asymmetrical hub a notch. As it would not budge and I didn’t want to damage the hub I dismantled the whole thing to check. I thought it was the hub itself that had corrosion as I suspect this bike might not have been stored in a garage but in fact it was the break calliper plate that was stuck and preventing the asymmetrical hub to spin. I had to spray with WD40 during 3 days and gently taping it with a hammer to get it out… has that happened to anyone before? Found some fine gravel in the hub as well 🫣

Coming out of a corner and hitting some fine gravel on rt. 215 in western North Carolina 10 years ago earned me a broken big right toe, chowdered peg, and in need of a new set of boots, and I never went down. Wearing Oxtar TCS Evo ti boots probably helped that be the only issue I had to deal with. Stuff happens on the open road.

Some work on the Zephyr today First the adapter as temperature sensor (for the Koso meter) off it was quite right, came whit a snap Then borrowed the plug for main oil gallery (as Kawasaki name it) from the ZR-7 engine, just to notice that the temp sensor was most likely glued as it's smaller diameter than the plug I do wonder what a person has worked on this bike, surprise's come here as there.... Some cleaning of the threads and plug turns on Ta-da Than started to change the tire's to knobby onec As target is to become a Scrambler So one more thing, the Zephyr 750 wheels has a home made spacer, sadly it has a slight to small outer diameter VID_20251206_112909743.mp4 So one more thing that former (or former former owner) has not succeeded whit..... Next rear wheel on and wait for better weather so I can get out the bike and grind off a bit of rear frame....

(Haven't told the missus yet.... will pick the bike +spare engine, frame, tank and assorted bits come spring...) A prodigal son returns to Gilera.... -
Probably should have mentioned this earlier but, to be clear, I ride with my feet on the top of the pegs.
-
Just back from a sun-drenched, twisty road test of about 280km. The verdict? Totally worth it. Although the spring is notably stiffer when you bounce on it, this translates to much less unneeded suspension movement on dips so the net effect is to absorb bumps better and keep the chassis much steadier in bumpy turns. It is also more comfortable, and of course confidence-inspiring. $usp$pension upgrade$ - the best money you can spend!

Oops. I do believe I know how to post YT videos or they wouldn't be on YT. However I may have screwed up copying the link to the playlist. Thanks for the helpful comment. -
I think that you might not know how to post videos. You're in your YT studio in these links. You need the link to the actual video.
