This totem is the Salish Bear pole at the summit of the Malahat highway near Victoria BC. It was carved in celebration of the 1966 centennary of the merger of colonies of Vancouver Island and British Columbia. The elevation is a modest 356 metres, or 1157 feet, above Saanich Inlet which can just be spied in the background.© Lorne Black

After sitting idle for several weeks I threw in the recharged battery and took my VFR for a spin around Victoria. It was a nice, bright afternoon but with temps hovering around the freezing mark I didn't stray far from home. I found this view of Mt Baker from Cattle Point and manhandled the VFR a few yards down a footpath for the shot. Yep, it was chilly:
