Hi, happy new owner of Vfr800 5th Gen, could not find answers on this problem in the forum. Only have one low beam light working, the right side don't work, have tried changing bulb but no luck, have cleaned the handlebar switch. Can this be a relay issue? The high beam works on both sides

Noticed it flickering yesterday before I pulled away but it went out so thought nothing. This morning I start and ride down the road and put my headlights on and the bike stalls. FI is constant no flashing. Bike has power but it seems voltage drops and kills the engine. Using either brake the light comes on dim. Brake and headlight result in engine stall. Fi LIGHT turns off during pre-ignition and bike is fine without headlight. I installed a new RR after I heard a bee like buzz from the front. What should I start checking. I have a volt meter and grounds seemed fine a few months ago. Could it be a relay? How can I check those? Thanks for any help. This forum is invaluable for those of us with older bikes.

Hi all My 2005 ABS has got no headlights, no hi beam, buzzing hi beam relay, no front turn signals. Problem started with blown left headlight and then a day later relay buzzing and another day later no lights. All other electrics appear OK. I've done the usual visual checks and cleaned switches with contact cleaner and swapped Hi/low relays out but no change. Any ideas on where I go next? Thanks in advance

I’m contemplating using H4 headlight bulbs in my 1998 VFR800. I see from reading the forums that some have fitted H4 bulbs by trimming the tabs of the standard H4 bulb to fit Honda’s oddball headlight bulb socket. My concern is for the wires, connectors, and switches in the headlight circuit. A standard H4 is rated at 60W/55W, while Honda’s VFR bulb is rated at 45W/45W. A standard H4 will pull 33% or 22% more current, depending on whether it’s in high beam or low beam. For those that fitted standard H4 bulbs, especially in hot climates, have you had any issue with melting harnesses? Thanks. - Walt

I was intrigued by this upgrade for two reasons. First, it was in an MSTA STAReview article, and second, the experimental bike was a VFR. Anyone running this on a 6th gen? http://www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/3800-Lumen-H4-LED-Headlight-bulb-_p_83.html

Does anyone have any experience with swapping out the Honda headlight bulbs with LEDs?

Is there an easy way to adjust the headlights up and down on my 5th gen? Is removing the upper cowl the only way to do it? Is there a trick I am missing?

So, two years in with my VFR1200F and I still love it. Put about 42k km's (26k miles) on it so far and still feels like new. I've got some technical knowledge but I have most of my maintenance done by a local here who does nothing else. But, I'd like to be able to replace my own headlight bulb :D. So, last week I tried to do this but I failed miserably. From my perspective, looking in front of the steering column, you can see two "twist to close" little hatches that hide the high beam (lowest hatch) and main light (top hatch). I managed to unscrew the lowest one, and then even replace the bulb (but only just!). The top one, from my perspective, seems like I'll need to break my hand & arm in about 3 places to be able to do. I've found no real topic on HOW to do this, is there a trick I'm missing out on? It seems impossible to me! Or is it a case of removing half of the front of the bike to be able to do it? For the record: I'm not trying to install some sort of HID kit, just your regular H7 bulb... Thanks in advance for your vast & collective knowledge!

So I bought myself some cheap aftermarket headlights.. These to be specific. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2X-125W-Motorcycle-CREE-U5-LED-Driving-Headlight-Fog-Lamp-Spot-Light-For-BMW/171713942876 I have not yet done the wiring, but I want to make sure that this will work. The headlights have a red and a black wire. I want to know how I should wire these things up to retain my high and low feature without frying any wiring or botching this.

I got my VFR 1200 DCT in 2010 as a DC commuter and fun bike. She has been so reliable I'm not had to research much on the mechanical design or owner problems. Its good to see this VFR1200 community thriving! V/r, DanVFR1200

Thought some of you might get a kick out of this. I took a Buell Firebolt fairing and retrofitted a couple non-Buell lights to give it a different look. Left side is 2004(maybe?) Yamaha R6 projector set, right side is a Hella driving lamp cut from a busted 2013 BMW 3 series headlight. I grafted them in by cutting plastic posts which I predrilled for self tapping screws left over from the beemer light. I made a couple small filler pieces to close up the gaps around the projector. For good measure, I also laid up a carbon fiber windscreen. I started the project yesterday morning and the fab part would have been done today if I didn't have to run off for Easter activities. 1. Parts 2. Ideas 3. More parts 4. Carbon layup 5. Always looks nice while the resin is wet... 6. Testing lights for beam pattern, to determine orientation in fairing 7. Carbon screen test fit after drilling holes 8. Half-done fillers around R6 lenses All that said, I leave you to ponder the resemblance to this astonished cat. Discuss.

I have a series of small cracks across the face of my headlight lens. They aren't visible until you get about 3 feet away from the bike. My bulbs are stock. I know I can replace these for about $400, new, but does anyone have any other ideas. I can shoot a pic if that would help.

Hey guys ... very quick question. If I swap out the forks on my '03 6 Gen can I keep my headlight or does that have to go in place of the RC51 headlight setup. I love the VFR headlight and would hate to lose it. I've done a search for this but haven't found an answer. I saw a 5th Gen that seemed to keep his headlight setup. I'm sure the answer is out there but haven't seen it yet. Thanks, Austin

SO after my regulator went in my 99 vfr and fried a few things Ive got it back after some unfortunate honda dealership hourly labour charges. I asked them to leave as much as possible alone to avoid further costs and some left over problems (aside from a few bulbs being burnt out which is a nice cheap fix) are that my running headlights don't work. The highbeams work fine though. And also the right side turn signals are acting funny. Its blinking really fast and the rear right turn signal wont come on at all. The bulb is good cause it works when I pop it in the brake light. The front one goes on but blinks fast and the blinker on the dash goes fast to. The left side is all good, normal blink speed and both front and back work fine. So no running headlights but fine high beams and weird right side turn signals.... I think in a car there is a part that controls the speed that turn signals go but no ideas about bikes. And wondering if the headlights could just be in need of a bulb replacement but thought Id ask before buying anything I might not need.
