It now has accurate pin numbering and wire colours according to the European 2002-2005 wire setup. This routing is tested and works with both the 38770-MCW-D02 and 38770-MCW-D03 ECUS. American or other ECUs are similar but without HISS and slightly different wire colouring (two black and yellow wires in connector B, for example). 3. As many of you may have seen, we have been able to successfully reflash the 2010-13 VFR1200 (F & DCT models) with fantastic results. We have acquired an 2006-09 VFR800 ECU and have begun the process of disassembling the code. What We would like to know is: Who might be interested in having their ECU reflashed to get rid of any restrictions (ignition timing, top speed limiters, rev limits, etc.)? What, if any, issues with the 2006-09 VFR800 that we may be able to fix with an ECU reflash (for example VTEC engagement RPM, fueling, surging, of other issues in the power curve)? With this information, we will know if it is worth it to proceed working with this ECU and market, and what items to find in the ECU. I would also like to know if there is anyone with this motorcycle that might be interested in letting us run it on the dyno to test ECU modifications (it will be worth your while). I believe that we are the only aftermarket company that has reverse engineered Honda's flashing protocol to be able to flash the Honda Keihin ECUs through the harness connectors WITHOUT drilling or cutting holes in the ECU. Thanks for your time! Don Guhl Guhl Motors 717-618-4212
  4. First off I’m completely new here so I hope I’m going about this correctly and posting in the right spot. Ok so about 2 weeks ago I went and hit the triple nickel in Ohio (state rt 555) and on my way back I came out of the store and my fuel pump wouldn’t prime which has happened in the past but not for years after repairing the burnt fuse connection so I wiggled some wires and said a few prayers and got her to prime again but then it still didn’t want to start. Had to feed it some throttle to get it to do anything and still all it wanted to do was only barely stay running on 1 cylinder and I had to hold about half throttle just to do that. After letting it sit for another 10-15 minutes or so I went back out to try it again and voila magically it started right up and ran perfect for the 200 miles i had to ride to get home. Turned the bike off and restarted it with absolutely no trouble probably 5 or 6 times on the way home but now it hasn’t ran since, just wants to only run on one cylinder now and only with lots of throttle input to get it to do that. Smells kinda flooded like that raw fuel smell afterwards. Pretty sure All my grounds are good, I just went thru the ones under the tank and the harness recall has been done. Switched ECU’s also with no luck…. Any ideas? Seems like it almost has to be wiring related. ANY info/help will be GREATLY appreciated!
  5. While I was riding the motorcycle it lost throttle response. Upon trying to restart the bike it would crank but not restart. Moving the engine cut off to on or off clicks a relay and allows the starter to engage but the MEL does not illuminate for a couple seconds (as it should) and the fuel pump does not prime. The motorcycle can crank forever and not start. Thus, I have reason to believe the ECU is not turning on. Any pointers on this ECU issue? Has this happened to anyone else before?

Are there any companies in the EU that specialise in the flashing of the ECU for my VFR1200F. I have read all of the archived correspondence and there seems only Don Guhl in the US and whose service appears very good. Any best advise please?
  7. Anybody here know the pinout location on the ecu to let the gauge cluster know that the bike is on Sportmode(S)? Kind of like that pinout which turns on the yellow ABS light but only for the Sportsmode's "S". Planning to add a relay switch to turn on some electronics while on Sportsmode if this is possible. Service Manual didn't give any info. Thanks in advance. EDIT: By the way my bike is a 2010 DCT model EDIT2: Scratch this I just chatted with Don Guhl and the signal sent by the ECU to the gauge cluster is inside a CAN Bus line. It would be hard to interpret that signal. If anyone has any ideas on how to get a signal from a different connection it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  8. Hi Guys .. Loooong time no see. :-) I have a 1998 Viffer which had a prang so with the insurance money I have 'bought it back' AND got myself a 'new' 2001 model. Can I change over the ECU, Power Commander, K&N, and exhaust (Micron wide-bore and new stainless downpipes) from my 98 to the 2001? I know the 2001 has a 'closed loop' system with lambda sensor that I would like to ditch as the map I had for my 98 setup worked really well on the 98 (FiX) model. I know if I just fit the power Commander and other bits without changing the ECU it will get overriden via the lambda sensor and do nothing. Is this 'doable'? Thanks :-)
  9. Hi, I need help. My bike stator and r/r died months ago. I replace stator and r/r similar to previous one and installed also VFRNess. It show charging only until I increase engine speed. Then it drop charging. I made a small test drive and end of that I got misfires. Engine not worked normally. I replaced r/r with mosfet one. Now it charging as it should be. But rear cylinders not work at all. I replaced front and rear plugs and colis, still rear ones not work. I measure, that black-white wire in coil plug got 0.04 to 5 V, front got 11-12 V, so I assume that rear should also get 12 V. I was able to test another bike ECU, still no change, so probably it is not faulty ECU. I measure right after ECU gray plug on yellow wire and got also very low voltage and it seems, that voltage for that wire has dropped over time. It was 3-5 week ago, now barely 0.05V. So far, bike starts and runs on 2 cylinders, yesterday night it didn't start at all. Any idea what could causing this? If ECU is ok, is it possible that some sensor (separately front and rear?) has died? Any other thoughts? EDIT: Figure it out. Yellow wire was wrong one. Low voltage there indicate some problems in harness. Reason for my problem was broken black-white wire in harness.
  10. Scope of this question for the collective VFRD research staff is for 98/99 bikes. I saw a thread somewhere about the UK ECU yielding 10 more HP than the US ECU and another thread suggesting that California bikes were handicapped a further 5-10 HP (ecu and/or cams). Then I saw a UK ECU on ebay for 35 euros but it just seems too good to be true (spend 50 bucks to pick up 15-20 hp). Anybody have insight into attempts along these lines? Do the UK bikes really have more HP than the US bikes? Do the CA bikes really have less HP than the other states? Do the CA bikes really have different cams than the other states?
  11. I have a 2003 VFR800 VTEC I am trying to isolate a short circuit on. I think I have narrowed it down to the ECU, but I would like to confirm what the resistance across the ECU should be. I am looking at the resistance from the voltage supply pin to the ground pin, or pin #12 to pin #14 on the grey connector. Another way to explain it is the resistance from the ecu pin connected to the black and white wire to the pin connected to the green wire (both on the grey connector). I am currently getting less than 0.2ohms. Is anyone able to confirm what the resistance should be on a functional ecu? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  12. I tried searching, but apparently, "ECU" is an invalid search term on VFRD. On the 1200, where exactly is the ECU located. I know its under the tank somewhere in the vicinity of the air filter. Do I need to remove the velocity stacks and bottom of the air box to access the ECU? I've seen pictures/videos on how to remove the fairings and lift the tank (and I've removed the LH fairing myself for a quartet harness). But I cant seem to find anything that shows any sort of detail any farther than "here is the air filter" and "here is an ECU already removed from the bike". I am trying to figure out how involved it's going to be to remove the ECU and send it off to Don Guhl, because the more I pull apart, the more I'm going to have to remember (how it all goes back together) a week later.

    Ecu Fault

Hi Folks I need some help ,a customer was trading his VFR1200FD to me and when he changed the battery he reversed the terminals in error and has damaged the ECU.We are at a loss Honda have quoted over 2K to repair the bike and this poor dude simply cant afford it. If we try and start the bike before the ECU has had time to set she will start only at idle and when we turn the throttle she will die.The fuel pump is not working in the bike but when removed to an external power source she is working. We have tried another ECU from a donor bike from a breakers, and wont start her yet is working fine in the donor bike. Any help would be appreciated if we cant fix the bike the dude simply cant afford to have Honda repair her Thanks in advance Wes
  16. Some of us are looking for fuel maps that can be used in an ECU re-flash developed by Don Guhl that resolves quite a few of the issues with the stock ECU, such as 1here is a thread on this subject http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php/topic/77723-don-guhl-ecu-reflash-on-2013-f-model-yes-it-is-awesome/ Sorry, my cat jumped on me and...well, the post was sent unfinished. Short and sweet, we need fuel maps for two scenarios: 1) stock, no mods. Hopefully, they correct any fuel issues, particularly in 1st/2nd gear. 2) minor mods. Slip-on, air filter (aka K&N) Preferably these would be Power Commander as Guhl has indicated he can easily import them, but Bazzaz or others May Aldo work.

  18. I'm considering getting a set of Leo Vince Oval EVO II slip-ons (likely aluminum, can't justify the $$ for carbon fiber). Does anyone have experience running these with the stock Honda ECU and map? Does baffle-in vs baffle-less make a difference to how the bike runs? From what I've read on Revzilla and Leo Vince's site, it looks like they're set up to run with the stock ECU & map without any additional fuel commander, but I also know the bikes run lean from factory. Looking for advice on whether or not I really need an additional fuel manager or not. Thanks!
  19. I need to find out what brand and part number the socket pins / wire terminals are that were used by Honda and Keihin on the wiring harness. I need to customize my wiring harness to relocate the ECU to a different location on the bike. It's been 15yrs since I worked with pins and sockets and don't remember any of the players besides Molex. I figure if no one knows, I could try to contact Dynojet and see if their technical support can tell me. Keihin looks to be too big to get any kind of answer out of. But since the Powercommander plugs into the wiring harness and ECU, Dynojet must know.
