Hello all! I’m new to the forum but I’ve owned a 1996 VFR750 for about 6 months and I’ve been slowly restoring it so I had a couple of questions. 1) Problem: Frame is noticeably hot to the touch where seat and gas tank meet the frame during short rides 2-5 miles 5-10 minutes, is this normal? Background: riding around town I notice that the frame, where the gas tank and seat meet, get noticeably warm. This was especially alarming because I noticed this happen even when on an extremely short ride maybe of two miles for less than 10 minutes. It’s not scalding but I can definitely notice it through my jeans while I ride or dismount the bike. I’ve disassembled and reassembled the entire cooling system, replaced the cooling fan (working) and flushed the system, in addition to checking the thermostat and water temperature sensor, temperature sensor sending unit so the bike isn’t overheating. 2) Problem: first gear is jerky and inconsistent when off the throttle/ during deceleration. Other gears are smooth. Background: Engine breaking is not smooth in the least bit. This evens out when I apply throttle and engine breaking is smooth and consistent in all other gears so I was unsure if this is expected behavior. Hopefully this post is coherent, all help I’d appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone. Im in the midst of my very arduous VFR streetfighter build. . One thing that needed to be done was replacing the head gaskets after pulling the top end apart (some crud fell down the intake while removing the 20 something year old carburetor boots) When i received my new ones i noticed a small difference from the original. The stock part has a small restrictor in one of the oil holes - ive pointed it out where it is in this pic - The new parts however, have a full size hole , so im wondering why the difference? anyone know what this particular hole is? oil return/oil delivery? any info here would be swell.

Hey Guys, My '97 has been sitting for a while and I decided to get it running, seems the carbs were a bit clogged and it wouldn't start. Popped them off, checked the bowls, cleaned out the jets, etc. Got it to start again after I got it all back together. I warmed it up on the choke, and after I took it off it would run, albeit a little rough. I figured she just needed to clear her throat. I let it run a little while longer and shut her off. That was 2 months ago. Now keep in mind I've not started her up for 6 months before and she was able to clear the phlegm and get running while after I topped off the battery. I went in the garage last week to get her started and she would only run on choke. I thought, hmm surely they can't be clogged again? There was no junk in the bowls that may have been disturbed to clog anything back up (I wiped them out real well before disassembling). I go back in today, resigned to the fact that they need to come off again. Lo and behold, after I got the airbox apart I got to looking at the air filter and the damn thing would come apart from rubbing your hands on it. I oiled it down with what was I thought to be the right oil, but maybe I went applied it with a heavy hand? Anyway, not sure if that's ever happened to anyone before. This bike was running a bit hot the first couple years which has since been addressed. But surely the heat couldn't have been that bad that it compromised the filter like this? I don't know. Luckily there were no chunks missing that may have been ingested by the motor. Just an fyi on my experience with the Uni filter.

hello! im new here and actually new to posting on forms completely for that matter! i search and read thru them allot. and have gotten some good info from here so i figured i would give it a shot and see if i can get some extra direction or info! i bought a 1997 vfr 750 from a friend that owns a local bike shop. it was dropped off a U-Haul truck while trying to load it and bent the tail pretty bad so it was a perfect start for what i wanted to do, i already planned on building a custom tail. im a welder fabricator for work and went to technical collage for motorcycle technology and have owned many bikes and still own all types of bike so im not new to any of this but can always use advice from people who have more knowledge on a specific bike. so some info on the bike... when i got it home first thing i did was charge the battery fresh fuel and fired it up ran great! good start, then i striped it of all of its outdated ugly plastics! haha went over the whole bike completely i mean EVERYTHING! found the forks are bent son they came off one of the clipons was cracked so i ordered risers and dirtbike bars and went that rout because that was the plan anyways. did the pair blockoff and got fid of all of that crap. and started on the tail. i started with a ducati monster seat. had to get a little creative on bending the square tubing for the tail ;) but it came out great. i then made the undertail skin and box. im now in the middle of thinning out wiring and figuring all of that out. taht brings me here. right now im planning the dash. i wanna do a minimalistic dash few led lighsts thats it. dont think im going to do any gauges. all i want is a low fuel light signal light high beam light side stand maybe... i cant figure out the low fuel light.. so this is where im stuck. i have SOOOOO many more pictures i will probably add in the morning just wanted to start it up and see if i get any responses. THANKS!!!!
