  1. I had some time so I got after it. Stripped down, pressure washed (carefully). Soaked the exhaust bolts in liquid wrench and it paid off. The exhaust came off relatively easily. Pulled off the exhaust air injection plumbing. Hacked the tubes off the mounting plates, tapped them (M10x1.5) and screwed in some stainless socket cap screws (M10x16). Quick and easy.
  2. A bit more progress... the reason it was running like shit is because it was only running on three cylinders. The left front exhaust was cold. After confirming spark I determined it was flooded. The float valve was bad. It's all fixed now and I have to say, it runs like a friggin' tippy top! YAY. Now I can start on the fun stuff. And of course, another question... are these the stock carb jets?

  4. Carbs all apart, cleaned and reassembled, new plugs, fresh gas... IT RUNS! Like shit but it runs. I'll make it run better. :) Now a question: This "Carburetor Air Vent Tube" exits from the rear carbs and its other end is open to the atmosphere. Is this how it should be? Will it suck crap into the intake? Should I plug it?

  6. I'm new to the forum and looking forward to contributing. I'm in the process of reviving a '94 VFR750F (fourth gen) with 65K miles that was seriously neglected and rotted. For a full year it was parked uncovered in the sun, next to a lawn sprinkler that sprinkled it throroughly every night. It is rotted and frikin' ugly. The chain is one rusted solid hunk. I have all the body work off and the carbs on the bench. Not suprisingly all the jets are clogged. The engine oil smells like gas. It does have a clean K&N air filter. I want to see if/how it'll run before getting to far on anything else. The ultimate goal, assuming it's a runner, is to do something minimalistic; remove the body work, reuse the tank, build a seat and fenders, remove or relocate all the unsightly bits, make it clean and functional - especially the suspension and brakes. I've already got my hands on a well used Ohlins and will do the fork internals with Race Tech or some such, whatever conventional wisdom has found is the best route. I'll post progress. Thanks, Paul.
