VF500F2 Aka MBD Incubation Period At Least 52 Years
Dutchy replied to Dutchy's topic in Earlier VFRs
Today I had to switch to reserve @232km Petrol station was right up ahead; 12.2 litres went in, so make that 1:19 This time my riding was more the way I like it, so did not achieve the the same monster mileage as before. WPHB says the tank will hold 16.5liter -

oh no!!!! OIL QUESTON!!! PO told me the last few oil changes (while he owned the bike) have been with 100% synthetic 10-40W (Shell X7 or something). Whereas some say not to do this as it will dissolve the build up from prior use with semi-synthetic too quickly. I get that. But since the last 2-3 changes were done with full synth, what is wisdom? A) continue with 100% synthetic: it is better oil for high revving engines; any dirt build up will have been removed during the -at least- 3x times full synth was used B) no, go back to semi-synth as the engine was build in 1986 and it will like this oil better The bike does like revving and I like revving it (after it is well warmed up of course), it has done 44,000km/27.5k miles. In summer, we can get 30C/85F days.. The manual says change oil every 8,000 miles; that seems long no? -

29 year old, 44,000km new yeah that needs replacing Once fresh DOT 5.1 was in , I realized I forgot to clean the little window... took a Q-tip, started cleaning the little glass but then a cloud appeared.... the left bottom was black as well so I carefully cleaned things and flushed a lot of clean fluid (the bottle is open anyway...) through the system. Put on a new vacuum line from carb to petcock. The petcock on OFF doesnot stop the flow of fuel; I have a revision kit, but then the racing started and afterwards took the VF out for a 100 miles spin over some dykes. -

This year, Le Tour de France will start from Utrecht and will pass through my "backyard". Along the route, preparations are underway Need to do some work on/underneath the tank so decided to see how far she'd run until she stop.... Reserve came on around 220km, and came to a complete stop at 314km Had s small fuel canister with me so rode to the nearest station -

Well, Keny found out the hard way (on the The Bridge between Denmark and Sweden) that the vacuum hose from carburetor to petcock was leaking, so I checked mine. Yep on its last legs so.......................... It rained for most of the day but there was a break in the weather so time to put the odometer to And there was even time for a wash and wax job! Life is good.. -

Nice video Dutchy. Does she really purr that low? Must be an effect of the mike, the sound amplified the low frequencies. Se must purr a but higher in the frequencies. So, how does it feel compared to our 4th gen? Does it make you appreciate the 4gen more or not?? Nice scenery too. C The purring is the V2 engine in the Honda Transalp that is doing the filming It boldly goes where no VF500 will ever go.. http://vid113.photobucket.com/albums/n206/Dutchy_748/alpie_zpsd3z5ueyk.mp4 This mind you NOT on dirt trackt nobly tires.... The VF500 is far more nimble, as expected. It weighs less and with a 120 rear (110 is even standard)..... The fun is that you can really revs the thing without reached sily speeds as fast as you do on the VFR750.... Boy was the underside clarty... After some elbow grease..... -

And it must be contagious....... Thank you Keny!!! Went to look at 2 today, 1st one was grotty beyond belief so I didnot even make an offer The other one was the other side of NL so all in all a 300 mile day today. 44k km's/27.5K miles From the year I started working, 1986 Came with a set of new Bridgestone's, purrs like a small lion.... The OEM indicators are gone unfortunately.... 😞 Early rise tomorow for a 7AM start of a mc tour with some friends; they will be surprised no doubt! Early start to avoid the mass of HD and HD clones clogging up the dikes so no iron butt off the cuff but a good spin nevertheless.

All these 100's of hours fiddling with the bike while he could have................. But back on topic, absolute craftsmanship here!!!

The cop that pulled me over was soemwhat informed; he asked if my bike was a SP1... 1st glance, w/o looking at the engine, my 1st thought would be Yamaha. For no other reason than the color (blue). But then the truth appears and you go WOW!!!!

OK then, one gripe.... where are the NACA ducts!!???!!!!
