    We've got 50 million to burn.

    then at 450 pounds , youre 100 overweight.

    magnesium for the swingarm ,triple trees and all unstressed fasteners .

    titainum for stressed fasteners. and exhaust

    carbon wheels, body work , subframe and engine case covers.

    I did and my 83 had the myth .

    And it also had the unbreakable fiber fuel the tubes that BROKE !!!

    Still loved'er anyway !

    yeah. neither of which were NOT FROM OILING PROBLEMS!!!!!!

    thats the myth.. oil problems ..

    the true cause has been known since 1985!!! 30 damned years and people are still saying oil problems!!

  3. So many cans of worms...from so many countries. It's good to see that no one is sleeping, when it comes to engineering. So, what have I learned? Most are in favour of just keeping the cooler, as is, as it wouldn't benefit my bike, by making any changes. Tick in the box, as far as that's concerned. I'll still have to relocate it, as i'm designing a fresh fairing and tail. It'll be 'somewhere', but no different in size. That only leaves the radiator, then. I'll probably make it into something bigger. It's not going to effect the bike, as it's thermostatically controlled. If one was to overshoot the runway, it'd make no real difference. It's a supply and demand setup. Thanks for all your suggestions.

    well when living in AZ , i got a second thermosate from a junk yard for a whole 25 cents.. so i cut out the thermo switch and drilled the hole larger , dropped it back in.

    no worries about over heating due to a stuck plunger ever again in that start and stop traffic !!!

    . coolant starts flowing from the second you hit the starter.. but we 750 owners have no FI to worry about :happy:

  4. oh for gods sake.

    just run the oil lines back to the tail and have a copper coiled tube in a shroud with 2 computer fans. you could ride in the sahara with this set up. :rolleyes:

    Have you done this? What diameter cooper tubing and how many feet of coiled tubing gives an effective cooling loop since there are no fins?

    yep, on more than a few used 1/4 inch tubing to fit in the cut oil line and used a hose clamp.

    long story short i did this on a crashed bike just to get it home.. but the guy said it ran cooler than stock .so he brought it back and i made it pretty for him..aka hid the lines .

    then did it on a few other bikes mainly for steam punk looks. :wink:

    no idea how many feet. i just made it fit the areas i had to work with.

    the thermo opens a connection to the ground.. thats it.

    I hope you didn't do it exactly like you've drawn up there ^.

    If you did, you limited yourself to the current that poor little light bulb can handle when the switch is on for manual operation... and that probably isn't enough to run the fan. Also, if the light bulb burns out your fan will not be working when the switch is thrown.

    Probably best to continue the conversation.

    You are indeed right.. i had a switch with a built in light.. my pal used my the above drawing with an led light.. his fan went full speed.

  6. Doesn't seem like anyone makes a rear axle slider for the VFR - lack of interest or another reason?

    Seems like the cush drive/axle nut would take a battering if it went down on the left...

    I have an 80mm x 210mm rod of delrin on my desk that I'm going to turn into some axle sliders, should be a fun project!

    Is it worth making a few sets?

    i am sure there are enough down under to use up your stash of delrin :beer:

  7. here is one idea from a pal in school.. mind you this done on VMAX..

    my roomie made a 2000 cc vmax. be bored the cylinder until it was gone!!!!!

    then he ran sleeves running directly in the coolant!! :blink::blink::blink:

    yep he modded the cams and other stuff. :comp13:

    when you have your machine shop you can do what you want. :beer:

    he had the swingarm ON the bike and RIDING IT!!

    he didnt post more pix after that beacuse he got busy with work not sure if he has completed the front of his bike . but the back was DONE!

    if i remember correctly .shaved the left side of the frame where the pivot bolt goes as the right side has a screw..he chopped the screw too!

    . electricity loves to flow in the path of least resistance.

    i add more grounds right to the frame as its the biggest negative wire on the bike.

    when the r/r blows it sometimes allows the r/r to really over charge.. and that will pop the main fuse.

    the other way the r/r pops is sending too much current to the ground.

    adding a a neg wire to the battery will help the r/r but not necessarily help the over all flow on the rest of the bike.

    there are SO many ground wires that are crimped together. or put in a block of connecters like the 5th and 6th gens. those connecter blocks have melted or caught fire on more than a few bikes! .

    so. i play it safe .. and when i build a harley.. i use this ..
