  1. Of course ATGATT is the standard - no squid attire was implied - simply referencing after ride day was done. Riding temp? Nothing extreme in the way of AM/PM temp swings in SD, but when getting there (for us out West) a few mountain passes require a few thermal layers. I always ride with layers. Like an onion. So I can peel my scarred emotions and stuff them deep down (in my luggage) only to return when tortured.
  2. Whiskey? From BC? What, just cause us Canadians tend to imbibe now and again. Potentially some good rum for me but no whiskey. Whiskey makes me . . . . . never mind.
  3. Warm to warmer. Last year, we had a little rain (on the way there and 1 stormy night) but very comfortable. (F) 80° - 90° during the day: Shorts & T shirts 50° - 57° during the evening: perhaps jeans & a light jacket/ long sleeve If it's sunny - wear sun screen, hat & shades If it rains - wear a jacket & shades If it's cool - wear jeans, a jacket & shades If it's hot - strip down to shorts & your shades

  8. Well, that was a close one. Looks like we're going to Custer, SD. Sturgis 2018 is from Aug 3rd, so the dates are as follows. The 2018 SumSum 4 will be hosted July 10th to 13th. Arrivals on Tues 10th, day rides Wed & Thurs 11-12, Wrap up Thursday night. Departures on Friday 13th. First priority will be to secure accommodation room blocks and sponsorship. Once I have that, I'll start the official thread. This will be followed by a registration page somewhere (most likely Eventbright). I don't think I'll be able to utilize PayPal this year, as I've had some major issues with them and no longer use that account. I'll figure out a new means when needed, unless anyone has any suggestions?
  9. OK, just for the sake of . . . . The dates for Custer would most likely be July 11-13 (Wed - Fri) or 10 - 12, or 10 - 13. This is 2-3 weeks before the shit show in Sturgis and before it turns into Harley Central. The traffic in the area was minimal for tourist and you could get a seat just about anywhere for lunch/ dinner. Lest we forget, not a few miles away from Dillon (in Silverton) was the women's Harley Riders meet the week around when we were there in '09. I'm happy with either location. Whatever ya'll decide is what I will organize, so it's one less thing I get blamed for need to decide on. Just get a hold of everyone, bump this thread and VOTE. Don't get trumped into something or wish you woulda coulda shoulda cause you didnt' vote.
  10. After a summer of scouting, touring, remembering, riding and experiencing - it's time to chose a site for the 2018 meet.
  11. I recall being there. Quite the vista!
  12. Nicely done Rob!!! That last pic of the 2 of you, looks like it's got just as big a sh#t eating grin, like a newly adopted puppy. We all know the work you do will be meticulous. Love that sound. Looking forward to watching the progression.
  13. Hi didit, Thank you for your donation of 50.00 USD. We look forward to improving the forums with your donation. Thanks VFRDiscussion
  14. Had great day ride, threaded the needle through the rain clouds, getting just enough to clean the visor. Stopped in at Pilot Bay lighthouse after departing the ferry. Broke in the new tires and they feel Marvelous! Looking forward to tonight.
  15. Road through ALL the rain Fri to get here. New tires mounted and ready to be scrubbed in. Great parking lot time last night seeing old familiar faces. Mike's Place pub was packed and good grub. Morning coffee with the crew and getting ready for an easy day ride. WARNING TO ALL: between Salmo, Nelson, Kaslo and New Denver there are a TON of cops on patrol. Watch your speed and avoid the souvenirs.
  16. Just landed in Walla Walla. Last time we have net access before Nelson. Booked in Fri.at noon for new tires & breaks at Main Jet Honda in Nelson. New owners at Service Creek and no more corn beef (bummer) but still worth the ride. Chased by rain once or twice in the last 2 days, but looking like hot weather tomorrow on. Perfect for the lake break. See ya'll there!
  17. Had a great day ride today. The weather is STELLAR! Thanks for the road work tip. We came through it yesterday and this afternoon, thankfully shut down for the weekend. We're heading E from Waldport on the 34, then the 126 and a few others heading for La Pine, OR Monday night. When we got back to the room there was a VFR and a Duc in the parking lot - 2 guys (1 Calgary/ 1 Port Coq). Looks like I'll be booking a tire re/re in Nelson for Friday, so I should be arriving early in the afternoon.
  18. Now in Newport. Long day. Tried to find a new road but ended up graveled. See Jeff, I try. Cool here as expected. Enjoying a Dead Guy Ale.
  19. Furfther to jimbob's suggestion, stay away from Aladdin Rd N of Colville as there is major road work until late September. We'll be heading N via Kettlefalls to Northport. We just got into Yakima. Great day, nice weather, lots of PoPo and medium traffic.
  20. CVVFR, jimbob & I are leaving from 16 miles E of Northport (Deep Lake) on Friday 10-11ish? No real schedule. Not sure of our exact route up, but most likely taking the 3 to the 3A, up from Creston to the DH1 and coming into Nelson from the NE. Looking at arriving sometime in the late afternoon. I have my cell with me, but no reception at the cabin. We're heading out today for Yakima & Newport, so you can always call or email until Wed next week.
  21. I PM'd Superfunkomatice earlier. As I grew up in the area, I'll be taking a casual ride route and welcome to have anyone who cares to come along. There's apparently a great place for burgers in Salmo to stop at for lunch, with lots of potential side roads, unique vistas and picture pace. See ya'll in a few weeks!
