  1. 30 years ago today I bought my first VFR, a low mileage ’91 VFR750. Picked it up on a dreary Friday evening and stopped by my folks place to show it off. Saturday morning I headed home to Victoria, taking a long roundabout route to get to know the bike. It was quite a change from my ’81 Kawasaki GPz1100. Rode down past Seattle to Bremerton, Wash., before backtracking north to catch the Tsawwassen ferry back to Victoria. Sunday morning I showed it off to my friends. We met for breakfast most Sundays, riding our bikes to some place or other - at least in more pleasant weather. That day was dull & overcast so I was about the only one to arrive by bike. But afterwords I headed out on a well trodden route up to Duncan, but got caught out on a sand covered junction and dropped my less-than-two-day-old VFR. The right side got pretty scarfed up, but only cosmetically, and insurance covered the majority of the cost. As for me, I scraped my knee cap and had a separated AC joint, both on my right side. Not particularly painful, but it took a few weeks before both bike and rider got back on the road - here is is on a ride to Genoa Bay. I rode the VFR for almost 4 years & 85K km before trading it on a brand new VTR1000F in early 1998.
  2. That is very cool little bike, Dutchy, and has very '80's styling.

Ooh, California 58 is one of my favourites - though somehow I'm always riding it westward. After a stop at McKittrick Market for a cool drink, of course.
  4. Fwiw (and ymmv), I put ~90K km on four of my VFRs, two 3rd gens, a 5th gen, and a 6th gen - which is my current ride. None of them indicated any clutch issues. Went thru a lot of tires, tho 😉
  5. That reminds me I ought to go through my '09's suspenders soon - after 90K km it deserves a refresh.

You bet I can. This pics is from 2002, I think, when it had probably done ~50K miles. shortly before I traded it for my 2nd VTR1000F. Eagle eyed will notice the thinner footpegs and the later mirrors from the '00/'01 VFR800, an 8-spoke from a '91 VFR750, and the Yosh slip-on, too.
  7. ...or should it be What didn't you do to your VFR Today? As in, why didn't I tuck it under the covers before the snow fell?

I love your photo, nice alignment of the VFR, road, and setting sun. At least I hope it's a setting sun 'cause I hate gettin' up early.
  9. Today was the first sunny day in a couple of weeks, and since my insurance runs out in a week or so I took my VFR on some errands. Sunny ≠ warm, and there was a brisk wind, too. But I found a favourite spot to snap this piccy for posterity. This is atop King George terrace in Victoria, BC.
  10. Hi Lorne, Thank you for your donation of --. We look forward to improving the forums with your donation. Thanks VFRDiscussion
  11. Good man, Michelin's R5 really suit the VFR.

Sorry I missed your comment at the time, MaxSwell. But to answer your Q, the pic was taken about 6pm back in late July 1995. As I recall traffic in the Glacier NP was light that day, and I waited for the cars to clear before snapping.
  13. Looking through the corner - ✔️ Good body position - ✔️ Having a whale of a time - ✔️✔️
  14. I don't recognize the location but I've been on more than a few roads quite like this over the years. Great shot, thanks for sharing.

Terrific shot, slo1, a magical time of day showcasing a lovely 5th gen
  16. Today, in preparation for my trip to the MotoAmerica race at Laguna Seca I did an oil & filter change (Motul 4T 10/40 + oe Honda filter), and cleaned & lubed the chain. Of late I've been using DuPont Chain Saver, a wax based product w/teflon - or so they say. I also replaced the left hand switchgear because cancel function of the turn signal with is hit & miss. Anyhow, it is a good excuse to show another VFR pic. This one on California's PCH at the Willow Creek vista viewpoint, south of Big Sur.

recently installed Michelin PR5 and the good wx prompted a photo shoot

  18. I know exactly where that spot is, St S, because Sonora Pass is one of my favourite roads in California. Though I always seem to cross it westbound.
  19. Your ability to maintain that fleet of motorcycles without a garage or shed leaves me only one excuse - laziness Thank goodness you have a nice glass to enjoy when the work is done.
  20. Heading down from Sherman Pass to Hwy 395, homeward bound form my trip toe the 2004 WSB at Laguna Seca. Looks like Mars.
  21. Great shot, slo1. You're definitely pointed in the right direction 'cause those clouds look quite unfriendly.

Glad you like it, Cogs, I was pleased that it came out so well, myself.
  23. A sunny weekend got me motivated to pull the cover off the VFR and dust it off. Checked the air filter - getting dirty enough to replace but not crammed full of rodent refuse, thank goodness. As an aside, the Honda engineer who designed the 6th gen's fuel tank could spent a little more time and made it tip back far enough to get in and change the air filter without fear of amputation. Installed the *new* battery I got in Delta, Colorado back in 2015. It’s the one I use riding around near home. For long trips I install the oe Yuasa because it seems to better hold a charge. Lots more deferred mtce to come in preparation for riding season: chain, tires, repaint wheels, etc. Time will tell just much work this A1 procrastinator completes 😉
  24. I've never noticed any issues at elevation with my '09 6th gen, even atop 14,110 ft / 4300 m Pikes Peak, or any of the many 10,000 ft passes over the years. Funny that two modern VFRs behave so differently. Here's my VFR at a piddly 12,095 ft / 3686 m 😉 (fingers' crossed that I'll be able to travel this summer)
