  2. Haha. It is apparently his least favorite... 94 - 97 VFR, RC36-2 Just search Honda Marine Volt Meter. The CBX, SuperSport and Gold Wing Hondas had accessory ones just like it too in the 80's
  3. I need to add some more monitors. I have a couple bikes with one, but I like to have them at least partially hidden or on a toggle so I'm not staring at them.
  4. I also have a bunch of VF/VFRs with their original units in the stock locations. Of course, now that I've typed that, they will all start failing. Maybe below the rad guard might be a little better, using the coil and lower rad mounts, more out of the rad exit flow. I still think he'll be just fine with it there. As you said, yours has been baking behind the engine for years. All good discussion. It's all trade-offs, isn't it?
  5. You can also have one key cut with each number. Only one side does anything, they just cut both so you don't have orient the key before inserting. We did it at the Honda Dealership quite often. We'd paint a tiny color code on the key right below the plastic with touch up paint for a quick glance legend.
  6. Hotter than behind the rear cylinder bank/exhaust headers, bolted to the inside of the subframe, under the seat, behind a side cover? And then maybe down in a pocket? Of course as cool as possible is best, but unless you want it hanging from a rear grab rail or mounted to your lower triple clamp, I don't think there is a ideal solution on a VFR. I don't want either of those things. These bikes produce heat and things have to deal with it. I really don't want my carbs and air box right behind the hot air coming thru my radiator either, but it has to be "packaged" somewhere. I've thought of mounting one on the back side of the rear fender, but I don't really want a wire run that long. And if it's a bike that's used in any weather, it better have some really good plugs / connections to deal with a constant spray of nasty water. And a lot of my bikes that don't go in rain don't have full rear fenders anymore.

  9. I think that is part of your problem regarding return action while on the bar. You can also try adding a couple revolutions on the cable that threads into the housing for some more slack (as long as there are threads left for the lock nut... maybe not looking at it again) if you are confident that everything else is properly assembled. One last caution before drilling your hole... make sure you have the housing rotated far enough so the brake lever doesn't come into the cables when squeezed.
  10. How far you thread in one of the cables into the housing before locking the nut definitely affects free-play, but it looks like he has it pretty far engaged. Also the picture where you can see the actual inner cable and the housing is partially split open, was that just taken while you were still assembling? Also are you sure you are getting the locating pin on the housing correctly engaged in the hole on the bar?

  12. If you are considering not doing everything, at least change the C/S sprocket. I will swap out mine about halfway thru the chain life. They take a lot of the abuse and it's usually the only thing that shows any wear. It greatly extends the life of the chain for me, and subsequently the rear sprocket too. And they are cheap, especially compared to the other two components. It's worth the 20 or so bucks to me. I've got a few bikes and it really helps get the most out of expensive chains and rear sprockets. Not quite your question or situation, but kinda applies. But, yeah, the best option is everything. Obviously.
  13. It's a digital situation for an analog ignition system. It's either gonna work or not in the end. 0 or 1 Doesn't matter what it looks like.
  14. You don't know, until you know. I would have never guessed that development. In hindsight, some practice welds on the original unit would have been prudent before modding anything. The good news is if they are in the right spot, the right length and the right height when done... no one will see it. Nice setups also. Crafty, like a crow. Cheers dude.
  15. Yeah, looks great on that model. Idk... coolant and brake fluid every 2 years as normal? I would say annual on the oil change. The remaining items should be able to stay mileage related.

  17. Nah. The "Pulse" is generated by close proximity of the trigger to the magnet in the pick-up coil.

  21. I can't tell you how many times I walk around my shop or the shop at work looking for something that is the right diameter
  22. I think by "work", slo1 is inquiring about "feel". Technically any master will work with any caliper, but they can be very wooden or mushy if the ratio isn't in the ball park.
  23. I bet you wish the handle was on the center of the door! I like the white for sure. Always have.
