  1. On 86/87 RC24 VFRs to use the CBR wheel with the stock forks you have to have about 5-6 mm machined off of the disc mounts.
  2. Not worth over hauling, and if its "stuck" there's nothing you can do about it. Damping circuits are internal. Either try and find a used aftermarket (Fox, Works, Ohlins, etc) and have it rebuilt or go with something new (YSS, Hagon, Wilburs, etc). I go both routes and have rebuilt Fox and Ohlins on a few bikes, but I have also put YSS on about six bikes and am very happy. Great value. biketyresuk eBay seller is the store front for the UK R&D Center for YSS, Firefox Racing. I have bought them all thru them and have had great service.
  3. I know exactly what you're talking about. That epoxy job was a "oh shit, I need this done right now for tomorrow" job, always meant to be revisited and correctly redone. The epoxy was the right stuff, just no reinforcement plan in the moment. Was just trying to keep the pieces from literally falling apart. The fact that it lasted this long is pretty remarkable. That plastic and that epoxy are perfect mates. I think that "fabric" is a good application for those areas. I was even planning on making some plastic "donuts" to go around the mounts on the back side for additional strength.
  4. Yeah, don't waste a can in too cold / humid conditions.
  5. I typically put my fan switches on the left so I can "work the controls" in flight. But it's not like I'm constantly on / off either. And I usually reach down sitting at a light anyway. Looks good!
  6. Congrats. Have a great Spring and Summer. The Snow Blower is just glad to have another Honda to talk to at night.
  7. Nah. I've done it after a couple days on the 1992 VFR footpeg brackets and pedals.
  8. Nope. The rear reservoir can hang intact. Good idea on the female / male.
  9. Whatcha got goin on in the last pic? Fan and Fuel Cut toggles?
  10. They are not terrible, but they also don't just fall off either. Once you start, all of sudden your VFR looks like this!
  11. Brackets came out great. Makes a difference when everything's all bolted up. That subframe tho ...
  12. One of the times I attended his school in Vegas was right at that time. He used it as his coaching bike. Watched him left hand throttle, knee down, reach under his left arm with his right hand and point at the apex. He said he also RAILED the new aluminum framed Goldwing and scared some of the journalists and Honda reps, 2 up.
  13. The width of the triples is the same as the CBR, but the offset is different (CBR is less) resulting in different trail numbers, everything else being the same. They share the same width and offset as 90-97 VFRs and 90-96 CBR1000F. At the time I thought I needed the 88/89 upper triple to match the lower, but I could have used something a little nicer looking from the later VFR. I don't run an ignition switch on this bike, so I wasn't concerned with mounting or steering lock pin engagement.
  14. Just... WOW. Great job. Many VFRs just at the brink like that one don't get a comeback. The Honda Gods are smiling.
  15. Of those three answers to questions no one asked... one is cool.
  16. Yes please. Friend bought a 91 a couple years ago that sat outside and is getting it sorted. Upsidedown forks... but loses the dual headlights. 😞 Still a cool bike. Look forward to riding it after it gets a little more gone thru.
  17. I'm glad you got it sorted so you can now enjoy it. Lessons learned is another positive take away. On to the next project!
  18. When you mount everything up, most of the little things you didn't like disappear. It looks good. Things like stays, subframes, etc are challenging. I tend to make sure all of my hard to reach areas are addressed first, giving the easy stuff a light coat as I go around. A couple rounds of that, then finish strong with all of the most visible areas last with the money shots.
  19. Well on the way to a sweet, sorted VFR! Nice work dude. Can't wait to for a shot out in the sun and see it POP!
