  1. According to the fork swap data spreadsheet that is floating around here, at least up to '09 Fireblade forks are 50/54mm.

The mechanic took quite some time to find out the parts don't match

  2. You can also get an immediate and effective improvement in handling by placing shims between the top of the shock and the frame (does a similar thing).

Not when you have a third gen frame.

There are still a couple of companies selling triple clicker shocks for the 3rd gen VFR, like WP, Wilbers & Hyperpro. Not cheap but you also get ride height adjustment on some.

  3. Well, maybe it's just me, but I don't know from the graph which one is before and which is after. Also, seemingly related, in what year did they tweak the VTech?

I expected everyone to recognise the power curve of a VTEC in stock trim  the blue (more linear) curve is from the tweaked VTEC. It also runs higher rpm, no valve float was measured up to 13K rpm.

This was done less than 2 months ago.

  4. i really need a front wheel to work out my axle, bearing, spacer and brake rotor offset spacing/dimensions...

I am getting a SP1 wheel (with 954 wheel bearings) as that looks very similar to my stock front wheel (6 spoke). Also the mating surfaces for the rotors are spaced 117mm apart so it seems stock SP1 rotors will work but are 320mm. 310mm Fireblade or CBR600RR rotors have the same bolt spacing and offset so are also an option if you do not want to use caliper spacers.

I also looked at what fender to use on the ZX fork and think the R6/R1 fender looks best and comes closest to the rear mounting bracket (yellow dot). It doesn't look too difficutl to fabricate the front mounting bracket.

  5. Have you had any chance to do anything more?

How long is the steering stem of the CB600F as IIRC the neck of the CB is quite a bit longer than that of my VFR. I can't find my notes right now but thought the CB is somewhere near 205mm and my 3rd gen VFR 170mm.

In the picture it looks like it is rather long:

Is the neck of the later gen VFRs (5th & 6th) that much longer than the earlier versions?

  6. As far as clamping the USD forks in the triples, it doesn't matter what the tube size is. What matters for fit in the trees is the outside diameter of the sliders(the fixed upper part).

I know, but expect them to be closely related with the (wall) thicknes of the slider bushing and outer tubes being equal.

I looked at both the cb600f and cb1000r triples today and they look very similar. The cb1000r does have the bigger 43mm fork tubes. Both 600 and 1000 have the same rake and trail figures.

The cb1000r has a beefier lower triple. Maybe the stem length is a bit longer than that of the VFR. The length of the neck is about 205mm.

  7. Exchanging emails with Patrick about the CB600F triples and stem....looks like I have found my stock geometry triples for roughly half of what I was minutes away from droppng on the Gilles units!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure the CB600F Hornet triples are a match for your forks? The Hornet has 41mm USD fork and your's is a 43mm.

  8. I will share any information that I can measure and quantify for my VFRD brethren.

I am in Chicago training for my new job now but will be home late this week (in time to go to the MC Show in Greenville this weekend).

Thanks :fing02: This weekend tere is a big MC show here also, maybe bring my tape measure and notebook with me

Kevin is doing a great job on his, might have to steal his VFR1200 clip on idea.

+1, his topic is on my watch list too.

  9. Yeah my rear is a little higher, I am back from the show in Orlando and looking to gather some parts....SP1 Lower and upper? What do you think after measuring it with me Kevin?

Are you willing to share some of these measurements? I am looking into this swap myself but did not find trustworthy info. I found fork length numbers of 745mm and 750mm, fork spacing 215mm. Also did you measure the fork offset of the Kawa triples?

  10. My link

Anyone over there who may help with any knowledge of the company? Any VFRD'ers with experience with them?

If you're asking if it is a reputable company, the answer is yes. I have no personal experience with them but a lot of the riders in the national competitions use their products.
