Blue Mesa reservoir is the big one on the east side of the damn, its the damn you ride over just as you come down the hill from hwy 50 and extends 10 -15 miles down the road from the intersection, this little one is west of there and way down at the bottom of the canyon.

Once again you were kinda close to me. I can't fault you for passing through and not stopping though. I've sat at the same stop in Rocky Ford before without the entertainment. Sounds like a great trip.

THanks again HS. A couple of years ago I downloaded a mapsource file with some HS CO routes. Where is that file again? Would be great to have top ten Colorado routes from you! Maybe we need that everywhere you mentioned...the great riding areas I mean.I have to get back to Colorado! :cheerleader:

Yep, I had a great time and yes you bike is a bit faster then mine, well for now anyway. I am looking at some 12.5:1 pistons now (kidding), anyway I did enjoy you bike very much, it is quite smooth and very fast when you get on it. Yea Honda is still making some very cool bikes and You and RedDog are fun to ride with since I can not find many fast guys down south. Anytime I can get up North I will glady join you and whoever.Mark

I have seen some roads in NM and in Oregon that put some tar down on the shoulders to prevent the erosion of the roads by water and by vehicle tracks worked very well, but expensive.

I was comming out of the mountains in Bear Creek Canyon just past Ideldale when I saw a bunch of emergency vehicles at a turn off parking area, all these people were pulling off and I could not figure out why the hell they were getting off? The road was open and nobody was even directing traffic yet the harleys in front of me both turned off - I suppose jus to get in the way and gawk? The parking area was already jammed with cars and emergency vehicles with their lights on, I just kept on going...

I got an email from Dawn the lady from Austraila that kept that crazy bunch of Australians together, it was great to hear from her, I updated the blog entry she sent me a picture of the bunch in Kanab UTAH

152 is a great ride but even better is to continue over into Arizona and ride the Devils Highway (191) north through Alpine. Some awesome roads.

I was planning to do that this trip but that would have ment another day or adding 200 miles on top of 500. Nobody else wanted to do it with me.

So, some clarifications:

I'm closer to 150lb. than 130. A true lightweight. Helps with fuel economy. Doesn't hurt my bike's performance either.

'stich bought new in early '97, now has many miles. Hell, I lived in the thing for five months straight once while on an extended m/c "vacation". Yes, it looks like crap, but is still serviceable.

Hope you captured some more video besides the short run to Shaniko you posted. We did hit some pretty good roads, and though we didn't "stop and smell the roses", we passed through some awesome landscapes.

I call them like I see them, I am just glad I waited 5 more mintues! Yes I did get more video - but thats the best one or our day riding, thats a good section. I took 28 vidoes on this trip and not all of them will be used, most wont to be honest there is allot of slab or waiting or just boring video that I wont use. 150lbs eh? Thats still 90lbs less than I and I supposed I was on the money about the bags too.

Oh I was comming down the pass from Idaho City and got behind a Harley, and passed him on a double lane section and he pointed to the state trooper ahead - nice tip off so I slowed down and waited a good 300 yards behind the trooper who pulled off and I never saw him again. At this point I was close to that spectacular reseviour on the top of hill side soaking in the views of the people waterskiing on the lake.

I dont have a clue which version I have, its pretty basic how it works, I used the low setting with the wider angle and 60fps, Yes all I got was wind noise too, I was gonna figure that one out. I mounted it behind the windsheild for one run and I got more engine sound but it was buzzy and well I did not record the best parts.

I rerendered the Lovelandpass video - trying to make the HD off more simple and less resource intensive and made the HD version render at higher resolution bit rate, so the oposite. The loveland video is easier to view on slower connections or slower computers. I basically uploaded it to vimeo hosting service then took the mp4 files from the brower cache then analized them to see how they rendered them, then copied the settings for the loveland video and rendered it in sony vega with the same settings as vimeo used. JWplayer will play mp4 files so I uploaded it the vfrd server and viola HD vfrd video!

Sounds like you got the 2nd generation. My ContourHD renders HD into a .mov file (Apple format) and it's a PIA to convert to an AVI format and the quality loss is quite noticeable. The Contour has a new firmware update that allows you to set the dB level of the mic which might cut down on the wind noise but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. You can also vary some other settings to alter color balance and lighting as well. And you are definitely right about being easy to use. That's one of the many reasons I chose it over other models out there. You should check this site out if you want some good reviews on helmet cams:

Again, once I get my video editing software I plan on getting some of the footage from the Summer Summit meet up but there is not point right now if all you get is wind noise for a sound track and a poor quality conversion from MOV to AVI. :dry:

Did you get the 1st or 2nd generation of the ContourHD cam? I have the first one and it's pretty sweet. What quality were you recording at? I just leave mine on the highest setting but the 60fps doesn't work well for editing. Of course all I have is crappy free ware editing software which I hope to fix here pretty soon. The microphone sucks as all I get is wind noise. There is a way to cut that out but wrapping the camera in Styrofoam seems a big waste of time if it is going to be on a helmet.

Regardless, both the videos were cool. I am so itching to get another shot at Colorado!

What's the opinion on the new leathers?

There's a town on 149 on called Lake City. I stopped and gassed up there and chatted with the locals. I learned that there is a popular unimproved dirt road from Lake City heading west to somewhere close to Ouray. From Ouray you can take another such road to Telluride. I was wondering, Miguel, if you ever rode that on your dirt bike?

I installed the brake disc that came with the new wheels and boy warped is an understatement, It was out at least a 1/4 inch! I just tossed the both of them and removed the discs from my old wheels. I am sure they can be bent back into shape - not! The old disc fit on just fine and I spun the tire a good 3 turns with one spin of the hand! Finally have the bike back together enough to move her back into the shed to clean out the garage. The garage needs a power wash too! I tried my best to bleed the secondary system, I got fluid to come out of the vacume bib on the PCV and the rear brake, even got it off the secondary master cyclinder but not working when I push on the secondary MC? I will have another go next weekend.

Still need to get out torque wrench and go at all the fasteners, secure the chaingaurd and get the darned plastics paint done! Still much work to do, more sanding and sanding and more sanding.

Lee on top of the $800 I paid for it originally Last year I spent $300 getting the suit repaired, replaced all the velcro, the main zipper, and had the pocket zippers replaced and switched to zip down instead of up to accomidate com and heated vest wires without comming undone. The standard zipper zips up and the wires tugged on them till it came apart, this way they rest at the bottom without ruining the zipper and it stays closed in the cold.

I also had the TF2 armor that was comming apart at the edges replaced with the more robust TF3 armor. He got a good deal!

Later this summer I think I will get a Darrian jacket and pant for the dirtbike! I like the 3 day trips to the western slope camping out under the stars in my ultralite

Yea the bike was in need of some loving! I lubed them up a few years ago but I suppose the axle got some road salt on it - shoot 130K miles or so? In any case new seals and new axle new bearings are coming. I hope I get this done in time for the Arkansas meet. My Ohlins had a blown out hydraulic collar worn out so it wasn't working. I sent it in for rebuild Ohlins just replaced the collar. I suppose that is why my bike was pushing in the corners during the Kansas meet! The sag in the rear was at 44mm when the front was at 35mm! When I got home I twisted away at the remote preload and nothing! It is a wonder I could ride it well at all~

I check for play every time I lube the chain this was the first time I had any play in the swing arm and it was a good deal of it, enough to make it feel unstable riding. Must have been 1/4 inch at the wheel! It was staggering how bad it got in such a short period.

Now I need a new hugger too, I dont want to reuse the oem nor that crappy plastic aftermarket thing. I need to hit up ryvicko to see what hes got by way of huggers?

Where did you pick your boots up from?

New Enough and I dontated a buck to vfrd in the process! HEH Yea I put my boot streatcher in the toes and sprayed some stretcher fluid on the leather and let it dry overnight seems to have done the trick! I had to dig a hole in the crawl space to find the box I packed that boot stretcher in - My old Gramps had some great old tools and this old boot strecher of his was a God send!

I had to send the Transit pants back though, the jacket fit just right, but the pants hung on me too large and the knee pads fell down onto my shins.

Yup thats my carbide bit too! I need to reface it with the diamond face drill doctor, I have a whole drawer full of dull drill bits to sharpen up.

Got my Sidi's today - knowing from a pair of Italian shoes that I was going to need the extra wide size, they still cramp my toes! big toe is ok but the little toe is all cramped - I double checked to see if they might have shipped the wrong boot nope. The boot is very stiff too, gonna have to wear them around the house for a few days to break them in. Italians must have long narrow feet cause my half patty half mexican feet are too flat and too short! Left boot is too tight - right boot is just right!
