Purchased my very first bike at 17, a Yamaha XS750 triple, and asked the guy to show me how to ride it. He gave me a quick lesson and I hopped on it. He took pillion to coach me. Ran through my instructions in my head and gave it a little throttle, about half...and let go of the clutch. The front wheel lifted a couple feet in the air so I got on the brake, hard. The downward movement was so fast, it spun my mentor so his shoulders were on the seat and his butt on my shoulders and the lesson was immediately over and I was on my own!

Rode the beast for a year or so then saw the V45 Magna in Cycle World and it was love at first sight, or at least puppy love. Got a loan (back when you could get a loan at 18) and rode off on my first new bike.

Wasn't too long until Honda released the 1983 Honda Interceptor and that was true love. Rode her through college and started a family. When I decided to put up the helmet but missed it too much and picked it back up in '98.
