  1. Its been 6 months since I last did the Putty Road. Its a good ride during the week and it also leads into some great riding country in the Hunter Valley. I was up there today but on my Buell not my VFR. A Putty Rd ride could be an option for an NSW meet up? I'd be interested
  2. I like the external tank. Its given me an idea for the girlfriends RF600 (thirsty beast) to make it more tourable, there is a whole seperate pillion seat to be converted into a rack and tank module. With electronic cruise control on my gen 5. My gut meter suspects I get a regular 20km or so extra out of a tank. Also, (the bike has less than 50,000km on it) I just dismantelled and cleaned my injectors... not a small job, throttle bodies have to come off... what a difference its made though (19years of gunk gone!) The motor starts better, runs smoother, runs cooler, and it pulls harder through the whole range. There has got to be an economy gain there too.
  3. I know there is sufficient interference in the electrical system on my Y2K bike to make cheap LED dashboards lights flash/flicker randomly and independantly. The flashing pattern changes with RPM. The standard dash bulbs to not flicker.
  4. Wrap aluminium foil around the loose fitting pipe several times until it is a snug fit into the slip on. It's Ugly but functional!
  5. Make sure the tops of your brake and clutch fluid reservoirs clear the underside of your windscreen fairings on full lock. You may need to adjust the angles that the banjo bolts make from the reservoirs too. The bars I put on my 5th Gen let the brake and clutch control clear the tank and fairings by less than a 1/8 inch! I used ST1100 throttle cables but they DID NOT FIT DIRECTLY, the return cable was about 3/4 inch too short in its sheeve. Its a tricky job shortening sheeve without wrecking the cable. I put a modified motor car cruise control on my bike to eliminate wrist pain. In the higher gears it works fine. You need to be ready if you engage it in 3rd...!
  6. Hi Zarquon, Thank you for your donation of 50.00 USD. We look forward to improving the forums with your donation. Thanks VFRDiscussion
  7. Gotcha on that, thanks Terry. I spent 12hrs cleaning the carb rack just to make it run and I still have some issues with it. Damn bike has standed me twice, flooding on deceleration. I have dropped the needles one stop and it got better. I now have an optimised needle and jet kit on order hopefully this will set things right along with a heap more time in the ultrasonic bath and some new carb seals. I will check those tubes again when I get back into the carbs. The bike is for my girl, its got a low seat for its size, good for her... I like making old things new again, so its good for me too! Needless to say her mum hates it? You can't please all the people all the time. (A Blue Gen5 VFR pleases me!)
  8. The big one is still to come. I believe that a circuit of Australia is about 14000km. But the first job is to restore an RF600R (barn find) for the girlfriend to ride. Her old GS500 was reliable but couldn't keep up!
  9. I recently bought a 2000 model (with cat) had 36000km on it. It came with an aftermarket slip on exhaust. KThe fuel milage was about the same as what you quoted in your initial post (pretty crap). First job I did was add a volt meter then cleaned the pair valves (choked with Carbon), then balanced the idle valves and dismantled and serviced all the rear end drive components serviced the front and back brake calipers and replaced the pads and fluid. This all did nothing noticable! I then added liquid moly injector cleaner a bit at a time in each tank of fuel until the bottle was empty. That did nothing noticable too! I put some new BT30 evos on it and then I did a 6000km road trip from Sydney to Cairns the fuel economy got better and better as the trip wore on! (Blew the RR in Brisbane now have a lighter wallet and mosfet type RR hard wired with beefed up wiring). So I think a long ride might do the trick... it'll be good for your constitution if nothing else. I get about 18km per litre at highway speed now. Note Even the Blue gen 5 VFR's burn up their RR's 🙂
  10. That, on the pillion peg, is the vacuum actuator that controls the thottle. Its off a car and too bulky to fit behind the front headers where alot of people put them. If the road trials go OK I'll hunt up something less bulky and hide it a little better. It's ok for now. With regard the electrics, I think the best bet is to add a little conductive grease to the plug connector pins each time you separate a plug and socket and take good care of your negative junctions and earth points. Also, try not to over do it with the pressure wash or put your baby to bed wet! Z
  11. The CC installation self tests fine and works after a fashion on the stand but it needs to be loaded up... a road test... and I'm just a tad nervous about this part. The unit cost me $7.51AU at auction on ebay plus another $50 in plugs, wire, heat shrink and tape. Then about 20hrs to reverse engineer the wiring to fit the VFR and build a little hardware for monting it. Man your bike looks super shiny under the seat.
  12. Where is the wheel nut wrench? Read your thread end to end, nice ride btw. I need to get a cover! I've just done a wiring relay/distro mod on my own gen5. Switched the relay using the tail light wiring, main power is direct from battery with 10 amp fuse in line. System runs voltmeter, phone holder, usb outlet and lithium multi function jump starter. Current project... cruise control mod... (not so easy adapting and wiring 2nd hand car unit)! Enjoy Z
