  1. Modern oils are so much better than what was available back when these bikes were new. You can't go wrong with any of them really. Note that as synthetic oil breaks down, it actually goes towards high-end of viscosity-range. So your old Motul 7100 was getting thick with age as it wears out. Causing more load on system and generating more heat.

  15. yes, if you use original-style shunt-type regulator (even in MOSFET version), it will still have to dissipate all unused power to ground and heat up wiring between stator to ground. If you use new series-type regulator (SH847), it will only transmit as much power as being used. I get 2-3mph higher top-speed and 10% better MPG on any bike I retrofit with series-type regulator.
