  1. Thank you Grum - that’s brilliant! Same as coolant flow: right to left.
  2. Out of interest, does anyone know which way round the oil flows on a VFR 800? Does it flow into the right side of the cooler (throttle side), or into the left (clutch side)? Also, does anyone know how much air gets trapped in the cooler? I’ve been reading about air hampering a cooler’s effectiveness if the fittings are at the bottom. Fittings on the top help fight this but pain in the arse to drain oil for a service. Got a 5 row RC51 cooler on my 5th gen and it works fine. Was wondering if part of it was full of air. Made a different mounting bracket to centralise it in the frame. Just curious on the above, really. Stray

Wow Seb - that’s AWESOME! Love the exhaust.
  4. I really like that - awesome! The tail is where old old and new bikes differ most. Your VFR looks bang up to date now! I’d love to see the faces of folk trying to work out what bike this is at your local cafe!
  5. Does anyone know of this new header fits the RC45? Technically the architecture is same but I believe the cam chain is in a different place (so maybe exhaust ports are too far out of alignment to match. I know HighSideNZ (Phil) fitted an RC45 header to his 5th gen engine but the archived thread mentions lots of welding and bending. Stray

    2000 VFR800 Build

Beezo500, you’ve made more progress in one day than I did in a year. Credit to you and good luck with your build!
  7. SOMETIMES a good hard thrashing up and down the motorway with a good fuel system cleaner can do it. Sometimes... Trick is to warm up the carbs so the cleaner can do its thing. Passages are too narrow for the cleaner to penetrate when cold. Warming with a hairdryer softens the gunk and opens things up a bit. Tapping with a plastic screwdriver handle also helps dislodge gunk. If you're lucky it might work. Then run a few tanks of premium through them. Always use premium before storing - it waxed up much less than regular. Otherwise clear your schedule for a few hours! Best, Stray

Very cool - hope you enjoyed the UK. Bikes are meant to be ridden, even rare and beautiful works of art. Nothing sadder than a museum piece. I’m glad you ride that beauty!

    What a BEAUTY!
  10. Lance, you and DucV4 are SMASHING it! Thanks for the effort you’re putting into this. Stray
  11. What’s the difference in the frame welds? I’m intrigued (and know nothing about this stuff!). Really cool album - thanks BLS.
  12. Wow - 6,000km road trip sounds awesome!
  13. Wow Lance and Duc2V4 - you guys are AWESOME! Congratulations on succesding where so many others (including myself!) have failed. You’re a credit to us and I’m very grateful - I know you’ve been beavering away at this for a long, long time. When the 8th gen run begins I’ll put my name down for one (want a front-mount rad on my 5th gen). Once more: WELL DONE AND THANKS! Stray
  14. If you mount single pass rads you can run something like Evans waterless coolant. It has a much higher boiling point and works by volume rather than pressure. More dense than water though so doesn’t like double pass radiators. I know some VFR owners run it but I’ve also read on this forum that someone didn’t like it because it couldn’t worm its way through the 5th gen rads. It’s reusable too - lifetime coolant.
  15. Have been visiting this site for the last couple of months - AMAZING! Every visit I read it all cover-to-cover. Can’t believe how much effort and skill has gone into that machine. Simply staggering. Nice one Parkes and thanks for sharing. Stray
  16. Thanks Burns - that gives me somewhere to start looking!
  17. Thanks for the replies, gents. I’ll take your advice and get mine cleaned up. I thought they might need replacing and if so, I may as well get the 12 hole versions that atomise better. But since they don’t fit there’s no point. I’m worried mine aren’t worth flowing. A few guys on here have reported leaks after flowing as internal corrosion leaves pitting. If I flow them and they leak that’s £100 I could have put towards newer gear. Hispanic Slammer found some interesting car injectors that match. Might also look into that. Stray
  18. Is it possible to fit 6th gen injectors on a 5th gen? I know @rangerscott69 did a full throttle body transplant (6th gen TBs onto a 5th gen) but was wondering if only the injectors could be swapped? Mine (1997) are looking quite tired after 21 years and 70k miles. Would like to see if I can get a bit more MPG with the 6th gen squirters. By the way @rangerscott69, did you notice any improvements with your swap? Is it worth doing? The thread doesn’t say (and is now closed).
  19. I’m very, very jealous - good on you mate.
  20. That’s just gorgeous! Who took the photo? Very good eye.
  21. I agree. Heated vest helps fingertips. Great bit of biking gear but I keep forgetting to unplug before walking away...
  22. Looks like the 5th gen pumps about 240 CC/min whereas the 6th gen pumps 250 CC/min on average. I believe the 5th gen has a single hole whereas the 6th gen has a shower injector. That probably accounts for the difference.
  23. Thanks Mohawk. It’s a 4.9 for sure. Will have to take a punt on one of the 4.9 variants and see how it goes. I think the the only variable is cable length. You can get some with motorsport connectors but MTB uses the standard automotive plug. Thanks again Mohawk.
