The second week of December I went down to the Southwest to see a bunch of big rocks.
Read all about it on my blog: https://crotchrocketeer.blogspot.com/2020/12/snowbird-december-2020.html
(I'm really too lazy to copy it all and pictures and stuff into a post here)

Is that a family crest on the side?

YMMV?
That 6500 miles was with worn out suspension so the tires were eating themselves, and it was mostly straight up and down. If you find something that grips well and will last 7k, let us know for sure.

Beginning of June I changed my tires. I had a set of Pilot Road 5s on my 800 that I'd mounted in September. After 6500 miles the rear was past the wear bars and handling like crap. The front had reached the wear bars. Since this was a Autumn/Winter/Spring set I'm not surprised I burned out the center, also because my suspension was worn out (got it refreshed in May). I put on a set of S21 takeoffs to hold me over until I decide what to try next. The plan is to do a lot of mileage so I need something that'll handle the miles without getting out of shape really fast.

Mounted new tires. My PR5s that I mounted in September and rode all fall/winter/spring on were shot (6100miles). Burned out the center of course, but that's what happens when you live in a valley and have to ride straight roads to get to the fun roads.

(technically yesterday). Picked it up from the shop. They did every bit of maintenance that a 38,000mile bike needs and it rides like a new machine.

(technically yesterday). I dropped it off for a 38,000 mile service with a shop that claims to know VFRs. By June I'll have a like new bike and can pile on the miles (if the state of emergency ever ends).

What chain did you settle on lazyeye .
I went with a DID brand this time, because that's what my local shop had. The off-brand 520 I installed 10,000 miles ago didn't hold up to Oregon conditions (dirt, water, de-icer, etc). The sprockets looked like new so I kept with the same chain size.

Installed a new chain.

Cleaned my brakes again. Brakes get hella dirty. The whole bike needs a dip in some degreaser and bug wash!
-
I checked the sag to make sure it hadn't moved since I last adjusted it in the summer. So glamorous...

There's a lot of urban legends that persist.

I wonder how it'll turn out. His render is odd, sportbike equipment and 50/50 trail tires? But anyways, its a freeish country, go for it.

Cleaned the front brakes. Holy hell brakes get dirty, especially when you ride in wet conditions.

Lubed my chain, bled the brakes, went for a ride. Took pictures.

Hit 14K and did all fluids and a new set of shoes. This is what a Q3 Plus looks like when the sides go first. Happy that I burned through the sides first though. Great tires for the bike!
Do you live at the track or something? Haha.

I finally had an opportunity to go break in my new tires (Michelin Pilot Road 5). I've been too busy with work and racing to get out on the street bike. My tire guy always tells me "take it easy until they break in". Well the first time i got out was of course in the middle of an autumn rain storm. But the good news is that the PR5s perform just as good in the rain as the PR4s (which I also broke in during a rain storm). Hopefully I get as many miles out of them as well. My PR4 rears were lasting 6-7k miles.

I just replaced the sprockets and chain. Took me two days to do the actual work because I'm bad at reading the service manual and because I had to rebleed the clutch. I had a hell of a time with the clutch until I found an old thread on this board that says you need to loosen the top banjo bolt to let air out. Once again VFRD is a lifesaver.

This week I replaced the front tire and cleaned the hell out of the front brakes. The brakes were awful, something to do with riding in the rain all winter, and they were sticking pretty bad. The front tire was completely thrashed because of an unexpected track day (Pilot Road 4 is NOT a track tire) and because I'm pretty rough with the front end.
Anywho I went out and rode it today and was amazed at how much a handling difference a new tire and functioning brakes make. For a 550lbs bike the VFR can be pretty nimble when you put your mind to it.

Yes its a Kendon. I bought it in 2014 and have towed bikes all up and down the west coast. Best investment I've made in motorcycle stuff.
