Hey sports fans, dont know if this topic has been discussed yet, or how I found out if it has....😖😖😖. Looking to buy a K&N air filter, is there any DIY mods to the air box that will improve airflow?
Thanks, Ron
Be aware that there are 2 different K&N airfilters, the small 1 pictured above and 1 identical to the BMC above

Which "you?"
I rarely have fogging issues. They've pretty much solved that from early on saliva to later pinlock features and venting.
Riding since the mid 80s and...including the 4 helmets in the cycle now, a lot of helmets. lol
You'll with the thick twang

What about visors that fog ( badly )?
I've got a new mid - high $ BELL that I can't wear in winter but use an old Shark coz it came with a mouth and nose cover
How many years have you been riding and how many helmets have you had?
Me 23 years and 4 lids

This is to keep the VAI flapper open for "the full potential of the VFR" 😀
There's a dyno sheet with this and gain .5 hp in parts of rev range also more grrrr when on the gas.
Honda removed the VAI on an update to 8g

Absolutely shocking and tragic news D.
I'm sorry for the loss of your mate.
I'll be raising a glass

This is probably still too soon but I'll just put it out there... I'm a custom metal fabricator. I've never done an exhaust but I'd love to have a look at the jigs and if I had access to a completed set I'm sure I could do something worth a shout. My shop is pretty comprehensive and anything I don't have I would get.
Have you seen page 1 at the top

I am looking for a 00/01 VFR800 5th Gen to buy and if I can find one I would certainly be interested in a suitable VFRD header for it should there be sufficient numbers to justify another production run.
What would be useful in confirming my wish would be to list what I might need to do to make the outlay worthwhile as 53 pages is quite a hefty task and some of the discussion is waaaaay above my head and I don't want to start something I am unable to finish with my limited spannering abilities. PC3? RB module? Any other engine mods? End can/muffler? etc etc
Awesome work though guys!
Headers ($) + RB module ($) + wideband o2 sensor($) + additional wideband o2 module($) + performance muffler ($) + dyno tune($) will obviously make the most of it but the total cost is fairly high.
I was running an RB (no tune & no wbo2) but the RB shat itself, bike still runs better than stock in way of performance and fuel economy *.
If you get a hold of a set you can run it as is and add those additional bits as needed. I'm not sure about using stock muffler though.
*unless heavy with the throttle for sustained periods. This has been proven 😀

As long as we're revisiting this topic, after 1 summer of riding, the headers had turned more or less a bronze color, with some blueing near the heads - not surprising. About 30 to 40 minutes with a sponge, spray bottle and some Barkeepers Friend has them looking like new. Not sure if that affects the passivation or not - I can't imagine that the B.K.F. removes any significant layer of material to get down to anything ferrous - but if so, so be it - they look very nice again.
The bronze goes good with my wheels 😀

In response to @boOZZIE 's experience here, the do it yourself pipe expanders made no change at all to my Delkevic pipe and my impact wrench is no shrinking violet. Had to be done on a hydraulic machine in a shop. Two tries and it was done.
It took a bit of figuring out how to place the expander into the pipe and then to get my brother to hold the exhaust and I used a breaker bar. An oxy would have been good

On my 6g I have thin wall Micron ss mid pipe with several relief slots on the end. The muffler guy I took it to said that there is no way he is touching it with his hydraulic expander.
He suggested cutting the mid pipe and welding a larger i.d. piece on.
I wasn't keen on that idea so I got a manual pipe expansion set and gave that a go.
Just as the pipe was expanding a small split formed from one of the relief slots.
So the end result was to weld that larger piece on to suit and so far so good.

good luck

Watching this on my phone, and the first couple of seconds I'm thinking when is it going to fire up. ...then ooh, they're the stock mufflers

I would buy it but I'm all the way over in Australia. Seems like an absolute bargain.
What's the odometer say?

So...I have a couple questions...
How much are/were these headers going for? I read thru a lot of posts, and it seems like they were going to run around the $800 mark. What did they come out to? Also, what makes these headers better than Delkevics or Lexteks? Seriously, I have no experience with any of these.
US $8-900+ depending on if you wanted them passivated and crush gaskets and centre stand stop supplied.
These WiLD Headers are a performance part (proven on dyno) not a replacement, that is, the Internal Diameters of these headers are larger compared to the others.
Proper merges
Have a look at Delkevic's merge junction 🤮

And the weight savings on changing out the stock mufflers will be significant. So much so you'll need to adjust your suspension

There isn't enough length in the oe wire but with a rough measurement I'd say it would be about 1/2" space to the chain. Yikes.

I haven't.
and have not thought about trying an OE o2 sensor, but now you have given me an idea 🤯 . Will there be enough length in the wires? I'll try 2moro.

I think they need 10 - 15 orders per
production cycle and if ya go back to the last run I think you might be at about 5.

Yep that 'RB02 active' is the 1 and that's the same spot I had mine located.
I dropped the computer connection cable, with a bit of double sided tape, to the outside to make it easier.
Time to crank up the SuperCharger.

I ran without a heat shield for a while, all good except there must have been enough heat to soften the glue on my boot and ended up with a floppy sole
