  1. I was looking for this post Phil mentioned 'Another R1 Front End Conversion' however a search does not find it or anything like it :( I guess this was lost when the forum software was upgraded a while back :(
  2. So what happened with your conversion? I am thinking of doing the same conversion. UPDATE from me anyway ;) rather than start a new thread I thought I might as well post my complete CBR954 front end swap on this one - same topic and model. If the original poster is not happy with that then I will remove my post and move to a new thread. So today I paid a deposit for a complete CBR954 front end - as luck would have it with a blue front fender - so hope that matches the VFR800 Gen 5 Blue. Here in New Zealand these type of modification need to checked by a certifying engineering. So the first step was to contact one of the approved motorcycle engineers here in Auckland. I gave him the run down on the front end conversion and what likely needs to be modified on the triple clamps ie turn stops etc. So I have been given the go ahead from him and he just want to see the install once it is complete and ready for the road again. As I have another project to complete this winter so I will enlist the help of my retired father who is looking for a project to do in the shed - well have I got a deal for him ;) - I will pickup another frame so he can dummy things up in that while I still have the bike on the road. Once ready we will do the swap over - I might even do the CBR954 rear shock conversion at the same time. So I just need to source a few more parts - ie MCs for the delink that will be required after this conversion and once I get more $$ a CBR929 rear shock and convertibars.
  3. Yes thanks for the reply's and slight highjack all that info is good to know - sounds like everyone with a custom underseat setup has some form of suspension mod/height adjust-ability. Love all your guys bike, Rob, Jim and John a credit to you all. I can only assume the old wolf setup if no suspension mods were required would have been very small diameter end cans. I will start my own thread once I start on a underseat exhaust project - I just have 2 others that need to be finished before I start - one of which I need to move on (reads sell to raise the $$ for the other + the VFR mods) Cheers guys Mike
  4. Sorry to drag this back - looking for info to help me in a decision. Questions will be for all those who have designed/built a custom underseat setup. Long term I want to replace the stock exhaust setup on my gen5. I love the underseat look as it show off the single side swing arm and why in the past I have owned 2x gen6's. If I don't go underseat then it will Staintune high mount. Question time. 1. Have you made rear suspension mods to give extra clearance for the underseat setup? 2. The cans/slipons you chose what length and outside diameter are they? 3. With the info above in question 2 did you shorten them to fit them? Or unmodified used as delivered? 4. If you were to do it again would you do anything different? For me an underseat conversion is a long term project. Again this is for those that have done this before aka Veefer800Canuck, sa1713 and others. Thanks in advance Mike from New Zealand.
  5. I guess you could say good things take time in this case more than 3 years. Will be watching this thread having tonight read all 14 pages and the delays along the way.
  6. looks great So these are the triple clamps you have http://imaspecialparts.com/m3c/ ? standard 40mm offset just like the stock VFR800 triple clamps. Would be cool it these clamps work out and he can make a mod to them so the stops work and the stem setup for the VFR - out of the box triple with the stock offset but for 50/54mm USD fork conversions. Cheers Mike
  7. Thanks for the update :D yes life does get in the way - I have this same issue with my other projects - I am a fan of the old Datsun 240z/260z (we did not get the 280z like the US/CA the 260z went on until 77) and I have 2 x 260z 2 seaters, one race car and one long term road car project. Both are in bits needing time and $$ on them the road car has been a 16 year project so far. My issue with the zed is VFR's - I keep getting side tracked with purchasing of VFR's. I sold my first 240z race car back in 97 so I could purchase a Silver 98 VFR - which I sold...should not have done that....a few other bikes and zed went through the garage over the years. VFR400 NC30, 04 VFR800 purchased new - sold, a 08 VFR800 purchase in 2010 - sold in 2011 to make way for the 260z race car project. But now back on a 01 VFR800 in blue :D I am interested how this project goes as it is one thing I am looking to do with this VFR800 I have now - what I am calling the keeper. Once I finish and sell the road car 260z never know I might get another VFR800 - there is mint low KMs 1999 Anniversary Model for sale locally so one standard keeper and one modified keeper might on the cards ;) So interested to know about how these custom triples work out.
  8. whatever happened to this conversion? Did it get completed?
