  1. Rooms still available: Twins - sold out Double - 1 space left (share with Veefer800Canuck) Semi-Private (4 people in one room) - 4 left Dorms - 14-15 spaces left (I'll try and keep this to minimums as long as we can cover basic costs of the facility - we're close already) If you've said you are coming please go to the main page of the post and sign up for dinner and the t-shirt (optional). There isn't a rush but the sooner I know the total numbers the quicker I can arrange for food, drinks, etc. If you're planning on coming and you're a local it would be great if you'd kick in for a shirt or the meal to help balance out the costs for all members - it's a good deal for beer, meal and t-shirt. Have a great New Year's Eve everyone! mike
  2. If you're in the area you should come by. I'm debating which bike to ride and may not even have the VFR by July. You can come on whatever you can ride in on!
  3. Wow! We have 21 confirmed and paid participants and it's only December. Twin rooms (one or two to a room) are sold out already! Still three (3) spaces in shared rooms (two to a room). Still four (4) spaces with four to a room. And the extra dorm rooms with eight to a room are still available - plenty left. We are almost at the break even point for the event costs for the hostel. If that becomes the case, then I think I'll turn the dorm rooms (eight to a room) into accommodation for 2-3 to a room to encourage a few more people to come along. I'll keep you posted on that.
  4. Thanks for the payment. I'll take note of the booking for the two of you. This weekend I'll start posting the bunking arrangements and next week the logo.
  5. We're approaching the half way number for room bookings. Still lots of rooms left. Thanks for those who've already booked thus far. I'm chatting with a few locals - caterers and food services people about doing a BBQ or some type of meal together for one of the nights. More when I know more....
  6. If you're coming from Ontario, I hate to say it, but you're not missing much by riding until you get to Calgary. I think if you get there any way you can, it'll be just fine. The razzing is just good natured fun.
  7. Any updates, Curry? I picked July 22-24, 2016 for the Kootenay Hootenanny. Hopefully that doesn't steal your thunder. Depending on your dates I could be persuaded to attend down there, too.
  8. It's on the main page post. Or, you can go here - Eventbrite - Kootenay Hootenanny 2016 You can make reservations on Tuesday. I thought I'd give everybody a few days to catch up on the thread and sort things out. For all major updates check back to the original post.
  9. The event booking site is all ready to go. As much as I am a socialist, I didn't think it was fair to have everyone pay the same rate for dorms or smaller group accommodations. So I've created a slight tier structure. That way the more private rooms pay a tiny bit more than those in dorm rooms and we all cover the costs of the facility. The building actually holds 43 but I've set the limit at 40 that way the dorm rooms will have three less people. The rates are as follows: "Twin" Rooms ($80.00 for two nights) - sleep two on bunk beds are $80.00 for the weekend, select two from the dropdown menu for a room to yourself "Double" Rooms ($77.00 for two nights) - sleep two on bunk beds and the bottom bunk is wider which would allow for a parents and a kid and are $77.00 for the weekend, or it would work for someone who wants only one roommate (pay for two spots then), not enough room for three grown men "Semi-private" Rooms ($75.00 for two nights) - sleep four on two bunk beds per room and have an adjoining room with the same set up and are $75.00 for the weekend "Dorm" Rooms ($60.00 for two nights) - sleep eight people on four bunk beds per room and are $60.00 for the weekend ** If you desperately want a room to yourself or you are sharing with your spouse choose the "twin" option and book two (2) from the drop down menu. Effectively, you would take two spots in one room - $150.00 for the weekend. For any of the room bookings select your preferred size and the number of people. One person = one number from the drop down menu. If you are booking for two in any of the room types select two. Hopefully that's pretty self-explanatory. It will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The early birds get the worms and the smaller rooms.
  10. That was Björn. An excellent photographer and completely mental rider. Tony was the other one on the KLR.
  11. Wait! I resemble that remark. Haha. Good thing you aren't a math teacher! ;) I'm just about done with the registration information. Starting Tuesday, December 8, 2016, you'll be able to register online at: Eventbrite - Kootenay Hootenanny 2016. Registration closes on May 15, 2016 T-shirt Orders close on February 29, 2016 That will give plenty of time to fill the rooms and make our deposit on May 15, 2016. T-shirts I'd like to get ready earlier just to make sure we have enough to put in an order in the first place. A lot of interest so far. Once we start getting registrations it'll help allocate rooms and determine costs. If we have money left over I'll put it into food, beer (or both) or if there's enough left over, back to the members. $75.00 for each guest should easily cover everything for accommodations as long as we have 25+ attendees.
  12. Yeah. I totally cocked up the calculation. It's $37.50/night x 2 for each guest. It really is a screaming deal. I don't think you can stay anywhere, except camping, for $37.50 per night. Yep. They have a BBQ and we can use the patio and facility however we like. Not sure about a firepit but I can find out.
  13. Okay. Just redid the math on this one. Doh! It's a lot cheaper than I thought. I forget that if we get 25-30 riders and we split costs, it actually works out to about $37.50 per night or $75.00 for your stay for the two nights. Now that is a deal. Event information and registration will be online this weekend.
  14. For those of you coming from 'Merica or across Canada these are good routes for scenery: Highway 1A from Calgary to Canmore, or cut off at Seebe on the 1X to Highway 40 through the Highwood Pass through to Longview. (I can't map this on google maps right now because the highway closes in the winter). Highway 93 from Jasper to Banff or Canmore - Icefields Parkway Calgary through Bragg Creek, Turner Valley/Black Diamond and out Highway 22 to the Crowsnest Pass (https://goo.gl/maps/e5kMkvw3M7F2)
  15. MaxSwell, I'm guessing you're riding that way stateside, huh? I'm just to the North in Manitoba. Hummmm. I'm thinking. I've taken the trans-Canada hwy before on trips to Banff for camping. I recall vast prairie/grasslands/farm fields. Great for making time. Not so much for scenery. But then No. Dakota and E. Montana is no better. And Canada may be cooler. But I'm old and slow. Still thinking. Shoot me a PM and I can give you some better routes that will be scenic while traveling through Alberta - Highwood Pass, Jasper/Banff through Icefields Parkway, Crowsnest Pass, etc.
