After procrastinating long enough and when it time for new tires I finally did my wheels. The wheels were done in what they call Brilliant Silver base with a clear coat over. The cost for glass beading the wheels, powder coating and clear coating both wheels was $160. The glass beading of the wheels seemed to have removed a little if the roughness of the unfinished cast sections of the wheels. The clear coat seemed to dull the apperance of the silver base coat somewhat, but they do change the look of the bike, to me it just looks lighter, even if it still weighs the same. At the same time I replaced the brake pads with EBC HH pads front and rear. The shop that put the tires on replaced the valve stems with metal stems that have a slight angle to them, it makes checking tire pressure a little easier, they also replace both front wheel bearings. After cleaning and lubing the chain I noticed a little splatter on the rear wheel, I cleaned the wheel with bug and tar remover and put on a coat of wax, so far they are staying clean.

Pearl White is the only color I would change for. Love to see the finished product!

I was pulled over two years ago on the bike, out for a Sunday afternoon ride in on of the few areas in Illinois that has anything resembling curves. I got caught behind a truck, when a straight came up with a passing zone I passed the truck, approaching from the other direction was a local cop, I tried to slow down and went past the officer, I looked into my mirrors and did not see any lights. I went on up the road and turned into a resort to check on future availability for a stay, I had parked my bike by the entrance and was taking off my helmet, when I hear way off in the distance a siren, shortly thereafter the local cop pulls up behind my bike. The officer said that he had me at 59 in a 45, I responded that I had just past the truck and that I had not tried to elude him, he said that knew that because if I had tried that I would have most likely been able to. He also went on to say that I was lucky because if it had been the Illinois Department of Conservation Police instead that I would certainly recieved a ticket. I thanked him and assured him that I would slow it down. I was also pulled over in Wyoming last year, there I was only doing 52 in a 45 just coming into this little town of Dayton. This is after a great ride through Big Horn National Forest where I had been riding faster than I ever thought I would ever be able to. I think I remember reading that our fearless leader (HS) had a encounter with a local officer in that area a couple of years ago also, his encounter turned out worse than mine, I got off with a "slow down", I thing Slammer got the full treatment though. I do agree with others that have stated previously, if you have full gear, all your paperwork (registration and insurance card) and a clean record the police that you encounter will be a little more understanding. -
I just want everone to know that this is NOT me!!! I posted this picture when this bike was for sale on Ebay and I remembered seeing this picture elsewhere on the web and had saved it to my PC. Again it is NOT me!!! -
This is my first project this winter when the snow starts to fly. In looking at the rear wheel one side (exhaust side) is finished smooth and the other side is rough cast. AB-Oz's wheels look great, that is the look which I am going to attempt to duplicate, I like the contrast of the polished and the black, has anybody tried to polish the wheels with out using the paint stripper? I have seen where you use a polishing wheel with a high grit polishing compound to remove the paint. I would like to polish only the smooth areas of the wheels and leave the black paint on the rough cast areas, rather than removing all of the paint then repainting the ares that I want black. I am concerned about the paint stripper seeping under masking tape and damaging the factory applied paint.
