i think they could get in some trouble for selling a vehicle with an outstanding recall

i have ridden almost 6000 miles since the new shaft was installed......no issues at all, big improvement over the old clunker

an NC700 passed me while i was off of the bike the other day....it sounded like a sewing machine

that's cool if you don't mind the guys in the Prius blowing the horn and flipping you off as they pass you

mine is silent now since the recall

i got mine yesterday

there can be no mileage limit......it is a defectively manufactured part

here's a copy of the service bulletin for the recall VFR1200 Propeller Shaft Repair Method.pdf these are from Honda in Australia SBMC1525-VFR1200 Drive Shaft Recall.pdf looks like they don't have to drain the final drive oil....you're going to have to pay for a change

I have a Snap-on torque wrench, mine broke removing it after it was properly torqued

i sheared off the filler cap on the final drive case rather easily last year....that part is the valve tappet cover from the old CB750 and SL/XL singles from the 60's and 70's...CB 350 too i think.....they were known to break your final drive oil will get changed during the recall service

OK, I'll let it go... it's not like I have a lot of options anyway! Bummed I can't ride it for several weeks with some peace of mind though. Think I'll do the suggested visual check inside the rubber boot and see if anything looks weird or loose. My 40 year old GL1000 never had any driveshaft issues... you'd think Honda would have had plenty of time to make it 'bulletproof' BLIGHT if this was a no ride recall the NHTSA would have been very clear about it....your u joint is in the same condition it was in before honda made the press release.....if you feel any vibration, go and get a replacement part installed while waiting for the remedy parts to be available......a guy on the facebook page had it done already, it takes a couple of hours

Probably been said, but surely you have a case for reclaiming the cost of this due to it being acknowledged as a fault? Honda will not refund work preformed before recall or at least not here . Maybe there they will . i'd get a lawyer was it the u joint that failed ????

if it was an imminent danger, the NHTSA would have issued a no-ride recall in the US......this is based on the potential for catastrophic failure, due to some less serious failures or early wear situations ....i think this is a voluntary recall on Honda's part

I think the key word here (at least for us Northern Hemisphere guys) is JANUARY.....I think i'm going to ride it whenever it's nice out until they put down salt for the first time...which prob won't be long....then the forks come off and go to see Jamie.......i also had 44K miles on my 2010.....no issues....i'm not stressing...get it done in february

i was just looking at the service manual (pg 14-6), it doesn't seem to be a terribly difficult job, swing arm doesn't have to be removed

try searching your VIN# here ...http://powersports.honda.com/recalls.aspx ask customer service about Campaign ID JW2 regardless if you purchased the bike new or private resale, just bring it to any Honda dealer and they will run the VIN# and fix bike if it's been recalled ,....it doesn't matter if you have the letter, they are concerned about accounting for every unit sold

good,....maybe this will get rid of the last bit of the driveline chatter that the reflash didn't cure

it looks to be official both of my VIN #s came up positive

did my first oil change today at 850 miles....changed the final drive gear oil too....no chunks in the gear oil !!!!!

recall check at American Honda website says no recall....searched my 2010 and 2012 VIN

Honda website shows no recalls for 2012 VFR1200F US models.....searched by model and VIN

i really don't think any Honda engineers are going to be committing Hara Kiri....
